I'm only 5'4" 
And I am with you: long posts have to grab my interest right away,
or I am simply not going to read them. I tend to keep my posts short and to the point.
I must say, though, that I have been richly rewarded by reading the occasional long post.

An easy way around that - Type a character (such as "I"), ten spaces (or whatever) and then a period. The website will eliminate all but one space, so your post would look like this:
I .
