I've drank one cup of beer in my life that was it (I feel guilty because I can never say "I never drank before in my life"). However years has passed and my thoughts/philosophy on alcohol has changed and I loathe it. People including christian say that "drinking is okay, getting drunk is what'x considered a sin". However I can't accept that. Some of my church friends they have beers from time to time (they're not drunks or anything) but I can't stand them and will never go to any guy get together where I know alcohol may be present. When I see people drinking I cringe, and don't get me started on drunk people.

I'm 26 and will never drink alcohol and will speak against it for the rest of my life. If I was offered a glass of wine for thanksgiving by my parents I would say no. All I drink is water and that's fine for me. Am I being too judgmental here? I know many drink moderately and never hurt anyone but I can't accept Christians like me who drink wine and some who drink beer. I honestly can't take it anymore and sometimes wonder "what do I believe anymore?" I thought we were supposed to be above that. Sorry for the rant but I need to know.

Update:
By the way I don't preach to people about not drinking

The better questions are, maybe, why do you feel like that? Was there any event that made you feel that way? You feel rather strong about it.
Before worrying if you're judgmental I'd try to find out some of these answers...
There's not too much we can do about our feelings, but behaviors we can control.
If you're not despising another, and have a personal conviction you stick to, I wouldn't call that judgmental...
Even if you can't change the way you feel, there's grace and all brethren are supposed to accept one another "not to doubtful disputations". So not only them who drink at times, you are equally accepted, as long as one side doesn't despise or reject another...
Everyone must do whatever their conscience dictates them beyond common grounds as "don't murder" or "don't lie". If you feel alcohol is wrong for you, that's how it is for you and nobody can change it unless your soul gets reassured between you and God.
What's out of faith is not sin. But a person who abuses alcohol and says it isn't sin, is a liar. (And they know it.) I'd say you're being judgmental only if you despise other believers who have moderation, otherwise no. But you are right that we are above this in the sense that food or drink don't make people unclean, it's the thoughts of the heart. Someone might abuse alcohol and use it as a crutch instead of leaning on God, or be intemperate. Such people sin because they basically make an idol out of alcohol, not because they ingested a liquid.

To answer your question from a Christian in different parts of the world, I believe that alcohol itself is not a sin, it can kill germs, chinese believe that it can improve appetite as well and also it will cools you body down when your body is hot.

Biblically, the 1st miracle performed by Jesus was turning plain water into wain. if it is sinful how can Jesus does it? I also read in the oo of Timothy, whereby apostle Paul encouraged his son, Timothy to drink a bit of wine to improve on his digestion. I could not find any where in th bible that forbids drinking or consuming alcohol

I don't think there's anything wrong with hating alcohol. From my perspective, it has killed dozens of people I know-many of whom were family or friends.
I don't think that hating alcohol justifies hating other Christians, although I think it's fine to avoid them when they're drinking.

I remember when i used to go into the YouTube room in chat when that was a thing, some cc members would flame me for the music i listened to. They didn't like it and they would say things like " I don't like this turn it off". Or they would just rudely turn it off themselves and put their own song over it, and say something like "now, isn't this better?". Most of the time the songs they would put were lame to me, but i wouldn't tell them that. I would just let them have the stage. I would mute it for myself though and just go back to listening to my own stuff though. Some Christians can sit there and listen to like a 10 hour loop of nothing but songs from Hillsong... I can't do that, i don't want to do that, and it gives me a migraine just thinking about it, but i understand that in some households people actually do things like that.. Because they live like that, they expect and try to push that lifestyle on others.

The thing is, everyone thinks they know whats best for everyone else. They know what they want or expect from others, but because they are so deep into themselves, in their own little worlds, and their personal views, they don't consider or respect that others might have different ideas and mindsets. With people, i like to open doors for them to new possibilities, new options, but i refuse to try to force someone to think like and do what i do, because i wouldn't want people do that to me.

I know some people who are addicted to some self destructive things, but i don't sit there and crucify them because i don't do it. If it bothers me that much i just leave, or i just accept that it's not my responsibility. You have to have enough maturity to let people get tired of doing things on their own, and allow them the chance to make their own decisions, even when the solution is plain as day.

Discrediting people just for drinking some wine is a bit hard. Some take the last supper with wine.
Things and standard that you set for yourself is your thing.
Alcohol can be a good tool or a bad tool for destruction.
You have no right to be judging towards people who drink. No matter if moderately or heavily. Addicts are slaves and need forgiveness and love as those who just have a occasionsl drink.
All of us have fallen short to the glory of God and we need each other. And nobody discredits anyone because of such a small thing

Hi Demi,

It has been a while since we last chatted :) hope all is still good in Germany?

Being somebody that consumed alcohol my whole adult life, I struggled with this when I came to Christ. Our Pastor believes that you should drink no alcohol but that is his personal testimony. What I found in the Bible is that the word of God tells us that the priests should not drink any alcohol; therefore I know Jesus never drank it. For the rest of the church they can use it in moderation.

The Bible teaches us we are a priesthood unto God so that is why I try to avoid it.

God bless friend

The main reason for wine production since the earliest times is simple. Grape juice does not keep.

I believe that Just as our Lord completed the laws of sacrifiice, the Priesthood, and so much more , yet left laws which include jusstice, mercy an faith, He was not breaking any law when He drank wine and broke bread. He did not break any laws when converting the water to winde. Winde is the fruit juice of the vine, and the only manner to store it was to make wine from the grapes.

Remember, at the wedding feast, Jesus was said to have given the best wine after the porrer wine.

I have always taken thsi to be the life given us after we have lived first without Jesus-Yeshua...…… It has always been a comfort.

I believe in the proverbs we are taught a little strong drink for the down-hearted is good. It never recommends being blind drunk with liquor.

I too used to drink quite a bit, but when the Lord showed me it was a stupid thing to do, I simply quit. Now, on rare occasio I will have a beer or even a sip of brandy, but it is not like before, when it was a lot of each......….I think about having a drink for up to two years before actually doint it. Why? Because I forget I was thinking aabout it..

Hi

Yes i am still in Germany. Crazy times over here.
Everyone can choose how to interpret it. Back then also the tribe from which u came had a influence. A levite priest was different from a ephrainian priest. Many infos on the exact livestyle and commandments is hard or almost impossible to get.
I only see clearly that being drunk is a sin to God. Besides maybe on celebrations like weddings. I guess its about lifestyle and not just drinking itself.

After a quick review of strong drink in the Word I see where it is probably not adviseable to practice such.

At the same time it is not recommended to judge anyone harshly for having a little to drink.
From what I have seen in review, I do not want to even entertain liquor now excep for cooking. Cooking removes teh alcohol you know.

I do believe in the breaking of bread in honor of Jesus-Yeshua, wine should b present, but only a drink of wine, not to make oneself merry as written.

Pardon my ramble….please.

This isn’t an argument that everyone should drink if they want. Alcohol is an addictive substance. If someone can’t regulate their consumption then they should avoid it completely. However, I find many instances where alcohol has been consumed by every hero of the Bible. One of the first things Noah did when he got off the ark was plant a vineyard and got drunk. As well Christ said Himself the Son of Man came eating and drinking.... At the Last Supper He said I won’t drink wine with you again..., implying He had drank prior. Regardless, like many other things, the alcohol isn’t sin. It is however a catalyst to sin. It uninhibits the flesh and weakens the connection to the Spirit. I would say habitual drinking serves no purpose to God so we should monitor our consumption but eliminating it isn’t essential for everyone. Let the Spirit guide. I just wonder how many unsaved turned a deaf ear to those with a strong opinion because they thought in order to walk with Christ they needed to first give up their beer or wine. However for some, in order to pick up your cross, you must first put down the drink.

Grape juice keeps when pasteurized, however if stored a long time it will ferment

I’m the same way. I will not drink, and I will not date anyone who drinks. I can’t say about the relationship a person has with God if they drink, but to me it’s making it so they have a big thing in their life that affects their mental/physical/emotional/spiritual health of abused.

That’s a big nope for me

Just thinking,If you were to be In some kind of emotional way one day or night and you took a drink and to the point where you keep drinking to the point that you are drunk that day and then when you finally come to your senses again sober would you feel that GOD still loved you and you were HIS child or would you feel that you aren’t saved anymore?

Nothing that we do can separate us from the loved of Christ and your salvation. T answer your question, I would say that you have sinned against God by being drunk but seek forgiveness and repent.

Romans 12:1-2
King James Version

1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Your OP sounds a bit judgmental to me. For the record, I have abstained from alcohol since 1992, not that I was ever a problem drinker but because I did not want to end up as an alcoholic like my older brother. I don't see any biblical teaching that says drinking alcohol, at least in moderation, is a sin. I have seen a lot of destruction caused by alcoholism but see no problem whatsoever for someone to enjoy a glass of wine during a meal or having a beer after working hard all day. I do not however like to be with people that cannot control their alcohol consumption and want no part of that.

Drinking alcohol is not the problem. Getting drunk is.
