Well, since Im a future missionary for Wycliffe Bible translators, I want a man with the same vision that I have, and of course: who loves God above all, plays an instument, and obviously I need to be attracted to him. And I haven't found that man, so that's why Im 25, single, and proud of it, cause I know I won't settle with less.

Personally my favorite is a single and unattached woman my age telling me I'll make someone a great husband some day. Talk about a kick in the teeth.

As for why I'm not married, its cause I'm too nice. If you want clarification, you'll have to ask the girl that told me that. I'm still trying to figure out what that's supposed to mean. Am I supposed to be abusive? or unfaithful???

Women are insane, that's my observation anyway.

Ha ha ha, I get asked that question all the time...from my students :) I am student teaching right now, and every time I get to a new class there is always a kid who wants to know why I am not married yet. I take it as a compliment that they expect me to be married...but at the same time they probably assume that someone working in a professional capacity has all their ducks in a row by now.

don't feel bad about your ducks. I'm nearly 30 and still haven't got mine lined up. Actually I'm not sure I even have all my ducks. I think one or two swam away.

One of the cool things about having guy friends who are cops is that they can be trusted to cut to the chase and tell you the brutal truth. :) Last night I asked a couple of them why THEY thought I hadn't remarried yet, which is something I've never had the nerve to do before. This was what they had to say:

1. "Guys look at highly attractive women like you and only see your entertainment value (they WERE kind enough not to say "sex", which helped a little bit :D). Not much else because they aren't looking that deep."; and

2. "Even the nice guys don't look far beyond that because they assume that women like you are high maintenance or too much of a challenge."

If it wasn't for the presence of God in a woman's life, I would imagine the bite of this dose of reality could make one highly cynical. In law enforcement we have a saying, "In God I trust. Everyone else, lemme see your hands." One might begin to have the same attitude with regard to relationships at some point because of things like this.

I don't want it to sound as if I'm man bashing. I'm not. I've had guy friends who've said most women only looked at them as eye candy as well, so apparently that door swings both ways.

While I'm mulling this all over, I thought I would post it here, as there may be other ladies/gents in the same boat who are wondering what in the world is wrong with them. :) Maybe a dose of brutal honesty might be helpful to them as well.

The question then becomes what one is to do with this information. The only answer spinning in my mind is that one simply trusts God to protect them from such things, that someday someone will be able to see them more clearly, and hopes that one's heart won't be too guarded at that point to be open to a relationship.

Since a couple of guys were kind enough to be brutally honest with me last night, I'm going to try and be brutally honest about the "you're too nice" thing. Here it is:

Guys know and appreciate "the chase" during their dating phases, but they don't realize that a lot of women, too, appreciate "the chase" in an entirely different way. If a guy is too easy or too nice, they don't present enough of a challenge to these women and the women become bored. That's why so many prefer the bad boy. He needs to be "fixed" and presents more of a challenge.

You nailed it though. It IS insane. :) One day they'll be whining about the bad boys, grow up and come to appreciate the nice guys more. That's where the "one day you'll make someone a great husband" thing comes into play.

No one has thought about compromises? Or is that a given w/ the person you'd expect?

Best excuse ever for going shopping :D
____-
julienannie, you probably would like 'Let's Make A Deal,' they sometimes have quite the shoe, purse, wardrobe collections, especially SHOES, for the ladies for their deals. Come to think of it, you should try to go on, I am God would granteth a lady like yourself that blesses so many with the BIG DEAL that would be SHOES FOR LIFE and manicures, to boot :D

Hasn't anyone ever given the looooong answer when asked this?? I mean start off telling them your entire life story. Make them wish they didn't ask because now they have to listen to your entire life story and feign interest. hahaha

Hmmm, I wouldn't take that to heart Jullianna.

At a guess I'd say that these guys aren't Christians. I wouldn't make a blanket assumption, but I think that many non-christians (and certainly some christians) would only see you for the entertainment value. - Something fun to enjoy for a while but no one to get into a serious relationship with.

I think, however, that these guys aren't the ones that you want to be marrying.

That a nice guy won't see through that is a load of rubbish. A nice Christian guy will see through the pretty exterior to who you really are, hopefully they will be confident enough to make the first move but you may have to poke them a little...

Phoenix I think also with the 'one day you'll make a great husband thing' - we aren't meant to marry the first girl we meet. Someone may see you and see all the great qualities you have - this doesn't mean that those great qualities are what they are looking for though.

I see this in heaps of the girls my own age that I know. I respect these girls so much and they will make GREAT wives one day. But not for me, I am looking for something specific and it would be silly for me to pursue a girl who I know it wouldn't work out with. That being said, just because I don't want to marry them doesn't mean no one will want to marry them or that they are in any way inferior to the girl I will marry.

"The chase" is so dang stupid. Quite frankly I hate it. I don't want to make someone fall in love with me and I don't want to fall in love with them unless I think it will work out. The entire thing about the Chase seems to be wanting to fall for each other romantically without actually considering whether things will work out between you both - that can happen later, lets just have fun now.

That being said, it's a tricky one how to work out whether someone is compatible with you and I suppose some people would do this through this so called chase, maybe I just hate the terminology. Hmmm......

Also, better to be single than married to a cheating jerk....

Stuey, I would have thought christian guys to be different too. :( However, I have experienced the same sort of behavior in christian guys several times. I don't date non-christians.

One of the guys I talked to was a christian. One was not....yet :)

I TOTALLY agree about the chase thing. It's silly, but a lot of people don't yet have the maturity to recognize that. And some NEVER do.

Hmmm. :(

Well I'm sad to hear that Jullianna. I would have thought that the older christian men would have grown up a bit... I think keep looking, you'll hopefully find someone mature enough to see past the pretty face. If they can't then they aren't worth your time.

:)

I prefer waiting to looking. haha :) I always get into trouble when I go looking for something on my own. And I'm in no hurry.

Thanks, Stuey :)
