I've done that before. Instead of laughing I said lol quite frequently back when I was a hardcore internet junkie on a 56k dial up modem. When the whole world was still amazed at how awesome it was to be able to talk to someone in sweden without paying 10,000 dollars in long distance fees via telephone. lol. Sigh, the things we now take for granted.
 
Well, we've been here a little over two weeks now. I suppose I should qualify 'here' by saying my Grandparent's house in Germiston. Most of you probably won't understand that, so think suburb of Johannesburg, SA. We've seen lots of family, and gone several different places.

We'll be celebrating Christmas here for the first time in 24 years. It's been and will be nice having some of the family around. My Father will also be celebrating his birthday here for the first time in 24 years.

We're going to have a family Christmas service tomorrow, complete with Barbecue (which here is called 'a braai'). My father is a pastor, and I'm on the track toward being (but a youth minister and worship leader nonetheless...). It should be really nice!

So, for those of you who don't know....my grandfather has terminal cancer. He's in the final stages, and it's in a few places...including his thyroid. He's been in some of the best spirits I've ever seen him have, and seems to be softening some. Though no one truly knows but the LORD, please continue to pray for him. His name is Charles Meyer.

We've gotten to have some good devotions and worship time together; as well as, prayer and some deeper conversation. We'll be with him through tomorrow, and then head for Durban to spend some time with other family. We'll stay through New Year's, and return here around the 2nd to spend a few more days with the grand folks.

I want to specially say thank you to my Uncle Tim's family, my Aunt Marls' family, and my uncle Charles' family. They've shown me quite a good time and small breaks throughout the trip. I could go a bit more into detail, but I am on an IPad... God bless all of you richly, and a very Merry Christmas!

I think this is the first time since college that I haven't had to work on Christmas Eve, and it is GLORIOUS!!!

However, many would question my mental state (*smile and a wink to another thread in which someone DID diagnose my mental health*) because I've still chosen to be out and about among the crowds, for that very reason--this year I can be AMONG the crowds instead of being PULLED APART by them. Yes!!! I, too, can riot over the last carton of eggnog and complain loudly that I need 3 packages of cream cheese, immediately!!! Hooray!!! Surely, THIS must be heaven on earth.

I also scouted out a few unique places to hopefully share with any visitors I may have in 2015 (C'mon, CC people, hurry up and get here!!) and am going to try making shrimp alfredo with a few new techniques (new to me, at least), even though I couldn't find any Romano cheese (except for a huge block that cost $15, which I passed by.) Plain Parmesan, it shall be. I'm also going to try using homemade garlic butter, which some will laugh at but for me, it's a small triumph because the first two times I tried, I pretty much pan-fried the garlic.

Even though I won't be able to see my family for Christmas, I'm excited because I get to go to a Christmas Eve church service tonight and then do whatever I want all day tomorrow.

I am unspeakably grateful today... and immensely happy.

I'd almost forgotten what that felt like.
 
Just said "bye" to kid. Will pick all three up tomorrow for most of Christmas Day.

Have a lot to do still, but first a non-Christmasy lunch of baked fish (craving fish) and brussels sprouts (yum!). Though I haven't indulged that much on holiday treats, it's still a nice break from all that.

Some shopping to do: some presents and gift cards, but also some of the everyday stuff like cat food and litter.

Have to re-wrap some gifts because I let some charity group at the bookstore wrap presents, but then I forgot what goes to who (or is that "whom?"), so I gotta peek, re-wrap and label...grr. It's easier to just wrap it myself, that way I will remember seeing the item, thinking about who it goes to as I choose which paper - much easier to remember that way. Next year, I will wrap myself and just donate to some of those nonprofit tables.

I've been tempted to have my screen name changed, but if I do then I have to abandon this account and come back with a new name (and pay the fee, of course, which I wouldn't mind now that I have some money). Don't know what I'll end up doing since I didn't put much thought when creating this, thinking I wasn't going to stick around.
 
Nothing like waking up on Christmas morning and hear your mom say that there is no breakfast on account of fasting.

How exciting! Christmas is SOOOOO fun!
 
Well let's see got to talk to family and a good friend Christmas eve morning, spent the night at a friend's house for Christmas eve, we went to church service, i spilled wax on my pants because I'm just like that around candles, went back to friends house and watched the nativity story movie, got up and had a leisurely breakfast with a few other friends and exchanged gifts (I am now well restocked on tea, but it's something I will use and not have to transport back to the US so that's a good gift this year). And in about two hours I leave behind computer and apartment to go on "vacation" with the neighbor's family (I kinda sorta got somewhat adopted). So it's been a good Christmas and I'll see you all next year, but I'm also really looking forward to being home for Christmas with family next year (unless God throws a curveball into my plans).

This time it was the beginning that was a little rough! *sigh* Sometimes, ya just can't win. :p Usually I take a week to try and practice things. But O Come All Ye Faithful I did in one DAY, and O Little Town of Bethlehem I did in about two. O Little Town of Bethlehem has a simpler sound to it, but is really in reality more complex to play. Was all over the place in this one. Anyways, both are beautiful pieces, I hope I did both of them justice. :)

I should not have come to church. I am sitting in the Christmas service and listening to why we must not celebrate Christmas! Ugh!
 
I'm not trying to be a downer or anything.
But Christmas kind of gets me down sometimes, I just watched a video on the history of why it was illegal....and every year it's the same thing.

I go to work because there is never anything going on at my house, my dad is out with his girlfriend/spouse/wife's family and he just says "you can come with us after work." and then because I don't agree with his lifestyle, I just go to work, come home, and it's like an ordinary day. I mean. I sound like a downer, but it's always been this kind of stuff ever since I was a kid. We wouldn't even have birthday parties, well up to the age of four I think I had them, but...I just don't understand how parents can just be so...distant....even when you are under the same roof as them.

I literally feel like I have no more ties with my family, but i'm still here for some reason.....
