The Bible does present the Ten Commandments as the covenant itself. In Exodus 34:28, it is written:

"So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments."

"So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone
(Deuteronomy 4:13, NKJV)

This clearly states that the Ten Commandments are the covenant. When we look at Jeremiah 31:31-33, we see God speaking of a new covenant, but notice what He says:

"Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord.
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."

This passage does not say the law itself would change. Instead, it tells us that the ten commandments that are the covenant instead of being written on stone tablets, would be written in our hearts and minds. That means the law remains the same, but its place changes, from external tablets to internal conviction. This is why we see in the Gospels of John, Matthew, Luke and Mark, Jesus teaching the commandments and magnifying them.

Now, let's connect this with the Ark of the Covenant. In Deuteronomy 10:1-5, God commanded Moses to place the two tablets of the Ten Commandments inside the Ark:

"At that time the Lord said to me, ‘Hew for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to Me on the mountain, and make yourself an ark of wood... Then I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the ark which I had made; and there they are, just as the Lord commanded me.’"

This shows the special place of the Ten Commandments, inside the Ark, symbolizing their central role in the covenant. But what about the rest of the law? In Deuteronomy 31:24-26, Moses wrote the book of the law and placed it beside the Ark:

"So it was, when Moses had completed writing the words of this law in a book, when they were finished, that Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying: ‘Take this Book of the Law, and put it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there as a witness against you.’”

This distinction is important. The Ten Commandments being described clearly as the Covenant were placed inside the Ark of the Covenant, showing their eternal, unchanging nature as the foundation of the covenant. The rest of the law was placed beside the Ark, acting as a witness.

Now, when Jeremiah speaks of the law being written in our hearts, he is speaking of the same law, the Ten Commandments. The "new" part of the covenant is not that the law changes but that God Himself ensures it is within us, guiding us from within rather than being an external set of rules. This aligns perfectly with how Jesus upheld and fulfilled the law, always pointing back to love for God and neighbor as the foundation of obedience (Matthew 22:36-40).

So, the New Covenant is not about replacing the Ten Commandments but about making them part of who we are.

Blessings

I am not a contract expert but I have drawn up and or been a party to thousands over my 60 years in business.

For a contract to be inforcable, legal, it must have a "consideration".
A covenant is a contract.
In a real estate contract the consideration is the price paid for the property
The "consideration" God requires from Israel is obeying the 10 Commandments.
Yes the Commandments are the KEY to the contract

For the Consideration of obeying the voice of God, the Commandments came from the mouth of God, God would provide physical blessings.

Israel's consideration - Obey
God's obligation -- providing physical blessings

Brother, @Qt ... Concerning "our covenant relationship"

You'll notice that I reference Galatians 2:20 quite often. I understand it to be foundational to our understanding of how we are salvationally obligated in maintaining our covenantal relationship of obedience to God.

The rendering of Galatians 2:20 in modern bible translations, is a good example of Satan's methods of deception and devices in corrupting our understanding God's Gospel Plan, helping to create those 40,000+ different understanding of the Gospel. = "confusion" of 1 Corinthians 14:33

"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith IN the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." Gal 2:20 ESV

"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith IN the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." Gal 2:20 NIV

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith OF the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 KJV

The Faith IN Jesus, is OUR Faith, rather than Jesus' PERFECTlY OBEDIENT" Faith ....

Amen my friend.

If we are dead but alive, yet not us that lives, but Christ Jesus; then it is through His Spirit to which His Law, His Word is in our hearts and mouths in which we live by. That is the word of faith in which we preach.

Yes my friend we need to be careful in respect to translations. There is so much going on here with things that are so over looked and ignored in the Greek text by translators. I shared one above here in this link to post 6876.

Here is another. Sadly in this case the mistake was also done in the KJV. Which is the translation I use the most. LEB is spot on in respect to the words that are often mistranslated here. The MLV's translation will work. I provided below the word as defined in Thayer's and Strong's work below with the concordant work done by Strong also. Take note please that out all the occurrences of the words only one time in the KJV are they translated but. And that is in Gal 2:16. I share this all the tiome and sadly it seems no one cares or sees the importance of it. A proper translation literally changes the meaning of the verse. For we are not justified, by the works of the Law unless, if not the Law being worked through the faith of the Christ we believed into. For we who have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ, that the old man, the body of sin be destroyed. That From henceforth we do not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. And we are dead, but alive. Yet not us, but Christ Jesus lives in us and the life we now live in the flesh we live by the faith of the Son of God who gave himself for us. For if righteousness came by the Law all alone Christ died in vain. So let us not say who shall bring the Word, Christ down from above or up from the deep. For the Word is in our hearts and in our mouths that we do it. That is the word of faith in which we preach. For with the heart we believe into righteousness and through the mouth assenting is made unto the soul. And the JUST shall live by this faith. And this faith establishes the Law

Gal 2:16 (KJV) Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Gal 2:16 (LEB) but knowing that a person is not justified by the works of the law, if not by faith in Jesus Christ, and we have believed in Christ Jesus so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no human being will be justified.

Gal 2:16 (MLV) knowing that a man is not justified from the works of the law unless it is through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified from our faith in Christ and not from the works of the law: because from the works of the law no flesh will be justified.

When you say Yahshua shorten the Decalogue that is a whole lot of adding. Hangeth is not shortening.

Here below is the Greek word defined in Thayer's Lexicon translated hangeth in the version you used.

If something is hanging on something else it is depending on it for support. In other words The commandments depend on loves support.

Original: κρεμάννυμι
- Transliteration: Kremannumi
- Phonetic: krem-an'-noo-mee
- Definition:
1. to hang up, suspend
2. to be suspended, to hang
a. used of one hanging on a cross
b. used of the Law and the Prophets, they is summed up or hanging on two precepts
If you read the 10 Commandments it's about doing the right thing to God, parents, everyone else. That only happens through true love. So instead of listing the commands and offenses He simply showed if you love people you won't do them wrong. And He did it in 2 Commands which is like I said a condensed version of the 10.

No, He didn't. Here is where we are told the Old Covenant was done away by the New Covenant:

[Heb 8:13 KJV] 13 In that he saith, A new [covenant], he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old [is] ready to vanish away.

yes of course, Jesus did summarize them to show the core of the ""law"" was Love.

in the bible texts a young man asked Jesus what to do to have eternal life, Jesus replied to keep the commandments and he enumerated the ten commandments so it is absolutely certain they are still required since Jesus said so. what I do not understand is why some people do not believe what Jesus said so clearly. even paul said the commandments were just and Good

[Heb 8:13 KJV] 13 In that he saith, A new [covenant], he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old [is] ready to vanish away.
what is the new covenant, do you remember in Hebrews 8 that Paul quoted the same verses from the prophet Jeremiah, almost identical in Jeremiah 31:31-33 it says;

Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

Jer 31:32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was a husband unto them, saith Jehovah.

Jer 31:33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith Jehovah: I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know Jehovah; for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith Jehovah: for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.

from paul;

Heb 8:9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers In the day that I took them by the hand to lead them forth out of the land of Egypt; For they continued not in my covenant, And I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel After those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, And on their heart also will I write them: And I will be to them a God, And they shall be to me a people:

Heb 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his fellow-citizen, And every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: For all shall know me, From the least to the greatest of them.

from God Himself in the Old testament it is confirmed the covenant are the ten Commandments, do you understand? the covenant for gentiles is not the law of Moses but the ten commandments Jesus kept teaching about, he explained all ten of them and explained how to keep them , from the heart, and not the rigid letter on stone quite simple really.

both Hebrew and Jeremiah say the same thing! the covenant moved from the letters on stone to the heart.

both Hebrew and Jeremiah say the same thing! the covenant moved from the letters on stone to the heart.

Nope, not possible. First, Jerimiah was anticipating the New Covenant, he not speaking about the Old Covenant; second, the
laws of New Covenant cannot be a duplication of the laws of the Old Covenant, or the New Covenant would be in violation of the priesthood. A new priesthood must have its own laws, and they cannot in any way be duplicates of the laws of the old priesthood, otherwise, the old priesthood would still be in effect, which it isn't. Further, the laws of the New Covenant cannot violate the intent/objective of the New Covenant but work in conjunction with it, not against it, which the ten commandments would do because they are works based. The intent/objective of the New Covenant is that for those whom He places under the New Covenant, for those alone, their sins and iniquities will He remember no more with nothing whatsoever required from them besides of having been placed under the New Covenant. The new law of the New Covenant which accomplish that is the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, not the ten commandments, neither by any other works based law.

[Heb 7:16, 18-19 KJV]
16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. ...
18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope [did]; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

[Heb 8:3-7, 9 KJV]
3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore [it is] of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, [that] thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
7 For if that first [covenant] had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. ...
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

[Heb 8:12-13 KJV]
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new [covenant], he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old [is] ready to vanish away.

[Heb 10:14 KJV] 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

This is figurative language for the holy spirit dwelling in our hearts. It teaches us much more than the 10 commandments ever could.
Though figurative speaking, I do believe God in His miraculous way, giving us a new heart, Holy spirit is dwelling in us. The law is written in our hearts, that's the reason we delight in His law, not a burden, but a blessing to us.
We are only 3 dimensional being, there are many dimensions we don't know about.

The Old Testament does not overwrite the New Testament this is bad permanent not to mention theologically incorrect the Mosaic law is no longer in effect anyway and it is not the law that is different than our forefathers written to our hearts and most of us are Gentiles so it wouldn't apply in either event

I provided verses below that show God's judgment against the Old Covenant with its law, and the disannulling of that law by the new law - namely Rom 8:2 and also its restatement as "the perfect law that gives liberty" in Jas 1:25. But to be clear, it is Christ Jesus, Himself, who is the personal embodiment the law of the Spirit of life.

25 So I gave them other statutes that were not good and laws through which they could not live;
[Eze 20:37 NIV] 37 I will take note of you as you pass under my rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant.

[1Co 15:55-57 NIV]
55 "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

[2Co 3:6-11 ESV]
6 who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
7 Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses' face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end,
8 will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory?
9 For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory.
10 Indeed, in this case, what once had glory has come to have no glory at all, because of the glory that surpasses it.
11 For if what was being brought to an end came with glory, much more will what is permanent have glory.

[Rom 8:2 NIV] 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

[Jas 1:25 NIV] 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it--not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it--they will be blessed in what they do.

He came to magnify the law.
Isa 42:21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.

No where are we told that the 10 commandments are made void.
No, we are told that the 10 commandments are for unbelievers. They are not void, we are made void. Then we are raised from the dead and subject to a new law, the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ.

"For through the law I died to the law so that I might live to God." Galatians 2:19. What laws apply to dead people?
But now, having died to what bound us, we have been released from the law, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code." Romans 7:6.

"All who rely on works of the law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” Now it is clear that no one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.” The law, however, is not based on faith; on the contrary, “The man who does these things will live by them.” Galatians 3: 1-12

"For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death." Romans 8:2.

Yes, the Decalogue was part of the OC/Torah for Jews, which served its purpose and has been superseded per Heb. 7:11-10:10.
