Hey Everyone,

A quick Google search defines "alter ego" as: "an alternate self, believed to be distinct from a person's normal or original personality."

For the purposes of this thread, let's loosely define this as a side of yourself that might not come come out that often, that most might not be familiar with, but that is triggered by specific things or circumstances other than usual everyday life.

For example, I had a college professor who said her children were very aware of her "regular mom voice" and manner versus her "scary mom voice" and mannerisms, as well as the things that would cause it.

A while back, a good friend texted something especially thoughtful -- I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was something that I found to be extra kind and considerate.

I answered with a warning: "OH NO!!! You have just automatically activated my PRINCESS MODE!!!"

In Princess Mode, I will, naturally, feel compelled to start barking orders, insist that my way is the best (and only) way, and as could be expected, demand that people start waiting on me hand and foot.

Now of course, I was joking. OR WAS I??!!! (The people here who have met me in person, such as @Lynx, @cinder, @RodB651, etc., might be able to tell you just how SEVERE my Princess Mode really is!!)

Alas. I can't say exactly what activates my Princess Mode, but my poor, unfortunate friend said they were pretty sure they could handle it!! Thankfully, my episode didn't last very long -- and we have still managed to be friends. :p

How about YOU?

* What "alter egos" or modes do you have? A calm, everyday mode? A scary, catch-everyone-off-guard mode? A cookie monster who goes on a snack rampage? A gamer who goes into alternating "hyper" and "rage" modes depending on how your play is going? A parent who has various modes for various situations? An employee who can be calm as a cucumber one minute, but will go into "battle mode" if X, Y, or Z happens? A "concentration" mode that gets a little out of hand?

* What "activates" or brings on your different alter egos/modes, and why?

* How long do these modes/appearances last?

* What eventually brings them to an end?

* Are there any of your modes that you are especially fond of -- that you wish you could keep on rolling with -- and why?

(I have to admit, the one good thing about my Princess Mode is that it sometimes helps me come up with better quips and jokes than usual!) 😁

My alter egos, yes, there are multiple. and I'm not the original.
Are very unique. Myself is our ideal one, the one that should be.
My dark side, My down side, And my Original, who is broken, are all very unique.

When I am in a dead rush hurry, I become very focused and very hyper observant. I'm sure it is murder on my blood pressure, and it takes a lot of energy and cannot be sustained for more than about 2 hours without serious detriment.

It gets the job done, but I don't like it.

Also people become obstacles. I don't really see them as people anymore. Obstacles that cannot, under any circumstances, be plowed through, but obstacles anyway.

Excellent example -- and description.

Now I'm thinking about what my own version of this mode is -- and what my own blind spots are when I go into it (and what I need to look out for.)

Thanks very much for sharing this!

During my life, when I've seen someone being threatened by another or by some dangerous thing, I immediately ask God for help and insert myself into the situation to try and help. I'm spring loaded that way. Now that I'm old and very weak I wonder if that reflex is still in me. I don't know because I haven't found myself in that type of situation in quite a long time now.

When my kids were growing up I had the furniture in our great room configured so that you could walk/run around it all. All I had to do was look at any of my four children with a certain look in my eye and they'd immediately take cover by putting some furniture between themselves and me. The chase would begin and after I caught them a tickle fight would ensue. If I only had one, the other three would come running and jump in and attack me. I don't really have a name for that alter ego... maybe Crazy Dad.

My Princess Mode also makes me prone to thinking, "I know what the good CC people need!!! They need a new series of Seoulsearch Threads (said no one, ever! Lol!!)"

But you know how it is...

The delusions are strong with this one.

I know I have a different way I move when I am on the clock versus when I am off the clock. People at church would never recognize me at my job, or vice versa.

When I am getting paid I feel like I should be doing something, and moving with a purpose. When I am not getting paid I really can't be bothered.

I feel the same way about people, especially at work when I'm trying to do the job that I'm paid for. It can be very frustrating.

I thought maybe it was arcanum. Gnomes made the best mages in arcanum, bar none.
I rolled it to cook for my Palidan and my running buddy. But its so fun to play im leveling it too. Happens to me in every mmo ive played. I am an altaholic 😁

o.O

So you're playing Everquest 2... Because they still have servers operating for some reason... And you rolled a gnome mage...

...

...

And your primary duty is to cook?
