I saw a statistical map of the world that stated that the USA leads the world in single parent homes. We all know how detrimental it is to the success of children to be raised in homes with out both parents. You can watch out culture descend into chaos on the news each night, and we'll frankly; we are witnessing the decline of American civilization, but it's not war killing off able bodies men and fathers. It's not industrial hazard or famine or natural disaster that is tearing is apart. It's unmoored liberty. It sea that Hobbs is correct; that without an authoritarian sitting over the lives of man we are so horrible, that we will devour ourselves, with hedonism, and selfishness, and wanton wreckless abandon.

Hobbes, perhaps, after whom the comic-strip tiger was named?
Thomas Hobbes, English philosopher.
I guess I left the "e" out of his name.
Oops, my bad.

No arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear and danger of violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short

This is one of his quotes.

His idea was that it requires a benevolent King to govern men.

Looks like the Lord was right. His rule will be the "rule of the rod of iron".

How often has the King been benevolent?
The King is just as flawed as the rest of humanity.
Having said that Hobbes is writings have much in common with classical liberalism.

perhaps a good (better) King, with many good advisors whom he listens to often. the better the people, the better the King they can have and put into office and keep in power. God blesses those who earnestly seek Him.

In a perfect world :)

God called David a man after His own heart. Yet we know that David was hardly sinless.

When some people with a very broad brush, they miss the finer details which explain the principals. Anyone can criticize from a distance, but God looks at the heart.

Yes, God states we will find Him when we search for Him with all of our heart. Now some people think that only applies to Israel before Christ. They seem to think that they are saved and just need to pack a Bible to church. Just show up with the 'goods' and you are in.

We learn from Christ that God knows the number of hairs on our heads. That, indicates a very personal Father in heaven and not a detached 'god' who just wants us follow the rules and read a chapter a day.

Yet we are free in Christ. He creates a new heart and His desire is for us to follow Him. I am sure you know this already.

The conflict between the spirit of man and God who is Spirit, is a constant in this world and once, God destroyed the earth by flood because of it.

Perhaps if we give credit to the original Hebrew, and we understaqnd that David may be translated as the B eloved, understanding will grow.

After all there will always be our King on the Throne of the Beloved *David.(

But we have a benevolent King named Jesus, and our liberties are moored by his Holy Spirit.

Whoever said this was speaking from the perspective of an unbeliever. To get to the root of the matter we need to see what God says about the fallen nature of man, and the remedy in Christ. All these issues are spiritual issues.

It's spoken about the world, and humans. Just because it isn't pretty don't mean that it isn't true. In fact the truth about humans is generally not pretty. I guess Christians don't tend to read Ecclesiastes much. Being a Christian don't mean we ignore the reality of this world and the wickedness that humans have wrought upon it.

They say that a people get the government they deserve. Whether this is true or not, let us see what the Almighty says;

Daniel 4:35; "And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?"

And with this sovereignty in all matters pertaining to heaven and earth, we learn in Daniel 4:17;

"This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men."

That is why Gentile government will be replaced when our Lord returns, and why we should not look for a benign and equitous government before the Lord returns.
