You think it’s an extreme point of view, it is, because it’s an extreme situation I see the Christian faith in.
False prophets false teachers and Luke warm preachers and there dogs teaching the Christian faith, or should I say hindering the Christian faith, through Books.
Here we have some of us trying to purge out the leaven, and others encouraging the leaven to come in and it’s coming in mostly through Books.
I don’t think it’s a sin to read a book, but it’s a sinful situation that the Christian faith is in because of Books and the false prophets false teachers and Luke warm preachers and there dogs teaching/ hindering the Christian faith through Books.
There’s no better way for a false prophet or false teacher and Luke warm preacher to come in and hinder the Christian faith than through Books. He doesn’t even have to come to your church or your house he doesn’t even have to leave his lounge room. and he still gets pay. The Christian faith lets false prophet in to the church into your house and even into your very bed chamber O chased virgin to Christ, and you bring him in in your in books in your bag.
What ever happened to soaking in the word of God
What ever happened to meditate on the word of God day and night?
What ever happened to Jesus is the word, and if you wont to no Jesus then no the word.
Christians are hardly reading there Bibles even though it the light to their feet and a light to their path and food for their soul and spirit and life.

Yes but there are 66 books in the Bible have you learnt them.
Remember Jesus is the word and a light unto our feet and a light unto are path, and food for are souls and spirit and life.

Yes, God can use books, to send you strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.
There are lots of false prophet and false teacher and it’s not coming through the bible but through Books.
Christianity is a market place for the false prophet that makes merchandise of you to sell their wares.
Jesus said if it was possible they should deceive the very elect.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
And that roaring lion is not coming through from reading the Bible.
My thoughts are that we should draw a line and say enough is enough and be vigilant with all your strength with all your mind, cleaving unto the Lord who is the word.
If following the lord leads you away from the bible then it’s not really following the lord now is it.
I would suggest cleaving unto the Lord with all your heart and all your soul and with all your strength with all your mind that you might not sin against him.
A watered down gospel is not the gospel and it’s not the pure water of the word
2 Thessalonians 2;11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie. 12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Books are tools. Like any tool they can be used properly or improperly. It is our duty to use them properly by examining what they say in the light of the Scriptures, rejecting those promoting fallacy and accepting those promoting truth.
2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
To do this we must do as we are instructed in Job8:8-10.
Job 8:8-10 For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the
search of their fathers: (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days
upon earth are a shadow Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?
The words of those from the former ages are recorded in books. It is our duty to study them, examine them in the light of the Scriptures, sort through the mess diligently studying to find the truth. If one does this then the futurist dogma/propaganda quickly becomes exposed for the fraud it is.
Yet the futurist tree ( full of false prophets like Harold Camping, Edgar Whisenant etc… judge a tree by its fruit) continue to pump out book after book promoting the futurist doctrine you so desperately cling to.

Many who believe they are following the gospel are in all actuality just following traditionally taught doctrines that make the word of God of none effect. Unfortunately many of those have become so blinded by the futurists doctrines that I fear when things do not happen as they expect because they believed a lie, that they will condemn Christ as the antichrist, when He returns because they are busy waiting for their boogeyman (the antichrist) to appear instead of waiting for Christ to come.

I am reading (or was need to restart) "Earth's Catastrophic Past", Great book, although very technical, which explains the major events of the worldwide flood event, and how it made things the way they are today, and supports a young earth system.

Reading books is good because it allows you to see how others think and view the world. I haven't read any good books recently except the Bible.
The amount of forum posts on here would make up a very long book.
I read some not so great books recently and would not recommend them because there was a lot of hidden beliefs in them that many people don't recognize. I read them because my love ones thought they were great.
For example I did not watch the hunger games movies but i did read the books and the last one was kind of concerning.

Religious Christians don’t like you speaking evil of theiridols.

Christians shouldn’t have idols. Is that the problem here, has someone spoken evilly of your idols?
Once again you resort to using Scripture out of context. So now it is purging out the leaven to do as Scripture instructs? So now it is cutting down the groves and throwing down high places to do as Scripture instructs? So now it is evil to read a book that tells us of the views of those from the former ages even though Scripture tells us to? What translation of the bible do you use that states that?
I think I’ll heed the words of Scripture seeing as how petert is telling us to ignore what Scripture tells us in Job8:8

How can we do as Job8:8 instructs if we don’t read other books?
Your picture has it backwards read the Scriptures FIRST then read the views of those of the former ages in light of the Scriptures as an aid to help in understanding.

Wouldn't the same go for the internet and the chat forum. How much worse is the internet than a book. And how much worse is there doctrine being read in a chat forum like this. Is everything evil. Are we suppose to lock ourselves into a cave. There are plenty of good books out there and I am sure there are probably many more bad ones. Look at the internet, it probably exceeds the amount books you can read and it possibly contains 95% bad things. But I bet not one of you here will leave it.

I'm reading Clarence Larkins dispensational truth and the jury is still out in my mind as to whether or not it is indeed "truth". I must say though, Dispensationalist have some really cool looking charts lol

Sorry buddy but I don’t have any idols I put the lord and his word first as should you. it’s not you that’s pulling down the Christian idols now is it.
It doesn’t matter where you put the Bible in the picture you still have 95% of books and 5% of bible.
And if anything it should be 95% Bible and maybe 5% books, but that’s not how it is, now is it.

Forsaking the Bible to read books, broken cisterns, that can hold no water, putting books before the Lord and his word and forsaken me the fountain of living waters.
How is that out of context?
Faith comes by hearing the word not by hearing man’s opinions and philosophical traditions and thoughts, 95% of HIS time

Study the fountain of living waters and rightly dividing the word of that truth.
Not as you put it, Study everything/books and rightly dividing that as truth.
I wouldn’t have to take this extreme point of view to stress my point, if the Christian faith would stay close to the lord and the Lord is the word.

I think there is a difference between debating the lords word in chat rooms and spending your time His time reading books more than reading the Bible which seems to be the way of the Christian faith these days.

Maybe that is because there is only one Bible yet the words of those from the former ages are recorded in many books not just one. When we read these books we should be examining what is said in light of Scripture, which would require using the bible more then the other books.
No one is suggesting we forsake the Bible as you imply. On the other hand I am saying that studying to shew ourselves approved does include doing as Job8:8 instructs. It is our duty as Christians to examine what those of the former ages said in light of the Scriptures to aid in our understanding.
Where do you come up with your 95% figure, is it just more of your guess work? The reason Job8:8 instructs us to enquire of those of the former ages is because it can be an aid to learning if we examine what they say in light of the Scriptures. No is suggesting we blindly accept what they said as if they were all knowing, but instead we examine their words in light of Scripture.
So Job8:8 is in error and the all knowing petert is correct? I doubt that. I think I will heed the word of Scripture and enquire of those from the former ages by reading the books their words are recorded in. If you choose to ignore the words of Job8:8 so be it, but I suspect it would be wise not to condemn others for doing as Scripture instructs.

For 2,000 years we have been using the NT to learn all about God, the OT is boring, full of old laws, genealogy that means nothing to us, violence, and a lot of it is just plain not understandable, nor does it fit with the God we learn about as we read the NT.
So what does this have to do with what I’m reading? I think that God was there directing when the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. It took a long time for scholars to truly learn from them, but finally this is happening. It isn’t only the scrolls, themselves; it is opening up other findings of ancient writings whose language couldn’t be understood before. The OT was written in a language very different from ours, one that evolved through the ages like our language has. As an example, look at the way Shakespeare used language.
For many years our culture and thinking has been separating us from understanding the OT. Most people were limited to the NT and a few books of the OT like psalms. God was speaking to us with scripture we had to understand to know Him, and knowing God is as important as eating. Now there are men who have devoted years to learning that is now available. I don’t mean commentaries that give a man made viewpoint, but an explanation of the world God was speaking to so we can better understand God.
Some of these men are professors in universities, some just write. All must be read with prayer and reliance on the Holy Spirit. But God has opened this for us; I think we are to walk through the door opened for us.
I found Ted Bradford on the net at “torahclass”. He tries to keep to the facts and only the facts, no personal agenda. I think he sometimes gets in the way of his writing, but everyone has the bible and prayer for handling that. You can choose to just not know anything about any of this, I think God opened it for us and it is up to us to learn.
Tom talks of the OT as roots, but so does Paul. Rom 11:18 do not boast over the branches. If you do boast, remember that it is not you that support the root, but the root that supports you.
