My real happy place though, where I always “feel” like I’m on vacation, is definitely Oahu, Hawaii, where half of my family is from.

My mother, my aunt and my deceased uncle, were born and raised there.

My grandpa died there and my grandmother stay there till she was 79, then moved to California for two years and passed away.

My grandmother worked at the marine base there, as a civil engineer. When she retired, they hired like 4 people to do her job. She has designed landscape, buildings and art structures in Hawaii for decades.

My grandfather was a famous musician in Hawaii, in the band ‘Na Hoku Pa’, which in Hawaii, either means, ‘The Stars’ or ‘The Planets’. My grandfather remarried after my grandmother and him divorced. The wife he remarried, Ellen, is well known traditional Hawaiian dancer, singer and amazing entertainer. Her energy is awesome.

I also have a half aunt because of them, named Tyler, who is basically famous in Washington State for her singing and music, mostly around the Spokane, Washington area. Her and I talk every week. She inspired me to get into music. Her music artist name is Tyler Alai.

My dad was also a drummer in the band kitesurfing lessons, ‘Smash Fashion’ in the late 80’s, early 90’s but I think they only made one album. My dad is or was an excellent drummer though and loves rock music.
My happy place isn’t a fixed location—it’s more of a feeling shaped by calm, focus, and a bit of curiosity. It could be a quiet corner filled with books, reminiscent of the peaceful atmosphere in British Library, or a scenic natural spot like Hunza Valley, where mountains and fresh air create a sense of escape. It’s anywhere that allows space to think, learn, and connect without distractions.

Aloha! I used to hear of Maui as an adolescent on the TV music show, Hometown Jamboree. One of my favorite singers was Harry Rdke from Hawaii. Now I never saw his name in print s, so I could be way off on the spelling, but his surname is pronounced rod-key. God bless you and all your family.

My balcony is at least one of them. I’m allowing my nicotine addiction to flourish there and I can see that gulf no one longer knows the name of.

My hubby has fallen in love with that Gulf. When he retires in a couple yrs. he wants to move to FL. If I recall you're on the TX side? Well he loves the Dallas Cowboys so he may want to go there. Me, that's a lonnnnnng way from where I was hatched. I don't know if I can make myself go that far. I've gotten as used to tornado weather as one can, not sure about adding hurricanes to that.

When we lived in Clearwater, Florida our townhome had an upstairs balcony. Both my nicotine and caffeine addictions flourished there. Very peaceful and serene. It was my happy place. We lived a couple miles from the gulf (America / Mexico). Could not see it from there but always a little bit breezy from wind from it.

I have been in 4 Florida hurricanes and countless tropical storms. Odd thing though, I have never seen a tornado.

My happy place is the garden (my own secret garden) or the library.
With all my favourite flowers, leaves and books.

I can connect to God through His creation and His wonderful works! I don't need a huge mountain or waterfall or dramatic beach. I'm just happy in the cool shade of a tree.

You’ll get used to the hurricane parties.😂

I would guess not everyone has a happy place
That’s probably a safe assumption

It seems Jesus happy place was everywhere he went...but some locations he really liked

The mount of Olives, under the olive trees, in the garden of Gethsemane
the disciples boat - he napped through a storm
Mary and Martha's house in Bethany
The upper room
His father's house/temple during passover

....
In Heaven at the right hand side of God the father

And many people in abusive situations retreat into a happy place to survive. But I'm just talking about people here in the forum. Where do they find their happy, quiet time place.
It’s sometimes hard to find that quiet place. I haven’t told anybody here much about my life but I’ll spill some beans, not for pity but that maybe someone else would know that they’re not alone if they’re struggling to find that happy quiet place. I have had three closed head injuries and have extreme sensitivity to sound and light. I live in a very small rural town, in the same house for 14 years. During Covid the neighbors next door who were hoping to get the house before I moved in started putting their dog out and leaving him out for sometimes hours, barking loud enough that I couldn’t go anywhere in my house to escape the noise. The land around the house creates a natural amphitheater. I would hear them laughing like old slewfoot himself, saying “f@&! him”, “let’s go”, and my favorite: “dead is dead”. I talked to someone about it at county level and was basically told in cases like this, if you got the law involved the situations could get worse instead of better. It used to drive my dog to the point he would pace and whimper and cry, and eventually lay down next to me on the couch and watch me like the best friend and defender he was. He was laid to rest in August 2024. I have been in some very precarious times, but the past six years since Covid buries them all. In 2023, a new guy moved in on the other side of me into a shoebox even smaller than mine that wasn’t even there when I moved in 14 years ago. Last year, on a peaceful rainy Sunday afternoon, I had my back slider open to the porch and happened to hear my name. I went closer to the door, where I heard “sound bothers him”… I looked out to find three woodboogers about 20 fr away looking right at me eye to eye like they were just waiting for me. As they fired up a chainsaw (pouring rain), I closed the door and pulled the shade. But not before hitting record on my phone and getting the tail end of the conversation that again mentioned me by name. That was almost a year ago. Shortly thereafter he bought a Harley and would intentionally rev it repeatedly to an extent it rattled the windows. Some days it would be 4:30am. Some nights 11pm. And many times would just roll it out of the garage start it hammer on it, shut if off, start it again, hammer on it, shut it off, until he decided he wanted to stop. He wasn’t working on it, I would see him just sitting on it looking at the side of my house. I got to a point after my dog passed that I began to seriously wonder if I missed something and was actually in some dimension of hell. This went on all last summer. At dusk one night I saw him standing out near the property line looking at my front window, like he was trying to get a peek inside my house. After that I noticed him frequently, always around the same time at dusk. If I looked out the window, he’d see me and slip behind a tree or the corner of his house. I hate cameras, but for my own sanity, to make sure it was really happening, I set one up to get video of him. Rewind to the conversation I first heard my name mentioned outside… he mentioned a detail about an uncle that he only could have known from one text message on my phone sent to a friend on Christmas Eve ‘24, which opened a whole other dimension, that of stalking. As I write this, I still can’t believe it myself. All of this a few months after my dog had passed. Which is good because my dog was 85 lbs of muscle and would have torn him limb for limb if he had the chance. I have had rocks thrown at the side of my house in the middle of the night, trash thrown at the end of my driveway, my internet sabotaged and repeatedly knocked offline for “strange reasons” that the broadband company could not identify (note: he is a broadband lineman with a different company), fake bird noises early innthe morning (other neighbor across the road joining in), horns in the middle of the night, and spotlights in my windows at all hours of the night, you name it. . There are many more details that I’ll spare you, but they just keep getting closer and more bizarre. Last summer I began to seriously question my eternal security and if I was experiencing some dimension of hell. True to form God used this to draw me closer to Him in the midst of my isolation and to a depth I’ve never known in the thirty two years since I was born again. Again, I do not post this for pity but to maybe encourage someone that if you feel like you are in the absolute pit of hell, cry out to the Lord. Seek Him and He shall be found. Faithful is He that called you. I am hoping to get out of here soon. Please pray. My happy place used to be at my dining room table making lighthouse crafts and miniatures. Now it is on the edge of my bed at 3am with my headphones on worshipping God and experiencing him on a level I have never known. It’s okay if you can’t feel it. If all you can do is sit on the edge of your bed and cry Jesus, it’s alright. He knows your heart and can see beyond the words of a prayer into the depths of your heart. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. ‭‭(Rom‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬).
