Jesus Yeshua came into the world to save all mankind, it is up to the individual to accept His free gift of salvation.

Jesus was showing the depth of the compassion He had for the ignorant that were among His executioners. You could add that His request was also spoken in consideration for ourselves, for we all had a hand in His execution...none of us are without sin.

Please consider Luke 23 where Jesus said to God to forgive them and then Acts 2 where the people who crucified Jesus were confronted. They weren’t forgiven. Peter told them to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of their sins.

Luke 23:24
34Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

Acts 2:22-24
22Men of Israel, listen to this message: Jesus of Nazareth was a man certified by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did among you through Him, as you yourselves know. 23He was delivered up by God’s set plan and foreknowledge, and you, by the hands of the lawless, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross. 24But God raised Him from the dead, releasing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for Him to be held in its clutches.

Acts 2:36-38
36Therefore let all Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ!”
37When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and asked Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
38Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

An individual is saved when he or she repents of sin and the world and turns to God. Of course God forgave them, but He can do nothing for any who choose to be separated from Him.

When did God forgive them?

When did God forgive them?
All are forgiven/ they need but to accept forgiveness.

There is no sin unforgiveable, except perhaps that of blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

Many are very astute in poining out the sins of another but they too are only forgiven is they are merciful, as is our Maker.

A simple question.

Why on the cross did Jesus ask the Father to forgive them?
The Bible says a person can blaspheme the Son, the man Christ Jesus, and be forgiven, but cannot blaspheme against the Spirit and be forgiven.

They did not go against God when they crucified Jesus but they went against the man Christ Jesus believing He was not the Messiah.

Also Jesus said they know not what they do so they were ignorant of the fact.

The Romans believed in God but they did not believe Jesus was from God so they did not blaspheme the Spirit but went against the man Christ Jesus.

Saul did not blaspheme God when he went against the Church but he went against the man Christ Jesus believing he was not the Messiah.

Peter did not deny God but he denied the man Christ Jesus.

Which is why they could be forgiven.

They could be forgiven of their sin if they repent but did Jesus mean for their sin to be forgiven without repentance or that they had the ability to repent and be forgiven.

You make an interesting point. Scripture clearly states that if we don’t forgive others their trespasses, God will not forgive us of our trespasses, and yet Jesus asked God to forgive His accusers, and in like manner we should ask God to forgive those who have wronged us.

Because Christ is our intercessor/representative/advocate with God......for our sin forgiveness.

I believe He did that as an act of exampling for us. He was not guilty of ...not even one...trespass.

None of you are correct.

But this is the answer that is the closest.

Lol this is the funniest one. Your demand shall be granted by me at the end of this day as I will allow more time to see if anyone figures it out.

Provide a simple answer.

A postscript to His prayer in the 17th Chapter of John.

Jesus shed His blood for the specific purpose of providing all who ask/believe to have their sins forgiven........

That's nice and all, but I will give you a hint. It is in the Bible. It's not a subjective answer. And I suppose already one person is close and quoted their answer being close. I will also say another person has technically answered it by copy pasting the verse, but the answer in their own words hilariously mentions nothing of it.

I think that your query could be better framed, since it can be read as both a question into the nature of Jesus and his cause, and to the situation in which Jesus found the sinners, or maybe all sinners.
