Brother Piper so nailed it. 1,500+ ppl groups have not heard the gospel yet because of the hostile places. These prosperity preachers are too big of a chicken to go there and preach if $ ain't involved.
The christian is called to suffer in this world, not live in the fat lap of luxury. But many want what these charalatans, shysters speak to them. They get their itching ears scratched.

If Jesus didn't have a side job, why would we expect a preacher to have a side job?

I agree with you that it's perfectly reasonable, and biblical, for a pastor to be supported by the flock.
But it just isn't a necessity.
Sometimes there's a good reason for a pastor to maintain a separate vocation:
- Maybe it isn't financially viable to be supported by the flock.
- Maybe the pastor has some ethical need to support himself.
There were times when Paul didn't WANT to be supported by a certain congregation,
because they weren't mature, and he didn't feel it was wise to take their money for fear of accusations.
Why was BeastSlayer1970 banned? For derailing a thread?
If that's the reason, all of could probably be banned. It's VERY easy for something in a post to catch your attention and respond to it, and wind up taking the thread completely OT.
Was he banned for saying something against Calvinism, or John MacArthur? Is that against the rules?
Was he banned for some personal remark against someone? If that's true, again, many of us could be banned, as most of us have done that at one time or another.
What I find ironic and hypocritical is that the two guys gleefully rolling in the aisle over BeastSlayer getting banned are guilty of far worse personal attack posts than anything I ever saw BeastSlayer post, and they're still here. (granted, I may have missed something he posted...)
