so i think, the tares are among the wheat in order to teach warfare, and to test & prove.
through them, we should learn to rely on Him, and to be humble, and to cling to the truth. to love mercy, and to learn to use our swords, and our shields - to function in our armor.
my wife & i have been following a one-year Bible reading plan with a handful of brothers & sisters in a small group this year. it's been very good -- often over the last few months something i would not have otherwise read, but recently went through because of the reading plan, and talked about with our little group, turns out to be very relevant to a discussion elsewhere.
we should all read the Word more! all of it! God blesses us through this

These are the nations the Lord left to test all those Israelites who had not experienced any of the wars in Canaan (he did this only to teach warfare to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience): the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living in the Lebanon mountains from Mount Baal Hermon to Lebo Hamath. They were left to test the Israelites to see whether they would obey the Lord’s commands, which he had given their ancestors through Moses.
The Israelites lived among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. They took their daughters in marriage and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods. The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord; they forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs.
(Judges 3:1-7)
