Belief and Practice - The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod-What About the Gospel?

Christ has provided a special application of the Gospel
through confession and absolution.Confession is admitting
our sins to God and receiving His forgiveness from our pastor,
as from God Himself, not doubting, but firmly believing that by
it our sins are forgiven before God in heaven. Thus,by divine
ordinance, Christ Himself has entrusted absolution to his
Christian church and commanded us to absolve one another
from sins.

Belief and Practice - The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod-What About . . .The Apostles’ Creed

Some church bodies shy away from making formal statements
of faith. The Lutheran church is not hesitant to use thehistoric, universal (ecumenical) creeds. We use the Apostles’
Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed. These three
ancient creeds are how we confess the one, true faith of the
Christian church and they help us to identify with all believers
in Christ throughout all ages.

Someone help me here.... Does this mean they're part of the Ecumenical movement like the catholics?
:)

ummm...it explains it right here:

These three ancient creeds are how we confess the one, true faith of the Christian church and they help us to identify with all believers in Christ throughout all ages.

you would have to understand what a confessional denomination is.

but - weren't we just trouncing LCMS for claiming nobody else was saved kinda thing?

no, LCMS is not ecumenical - like some, in the way you use it.
can't win....ecumenical (a universal) confession (from the days before congregants could READ)....but not ecumenical - fellowshipping with Mormons or Catholics...or some others who hold strange doctrines.

mkay.

i'm sure you're not hurting for the lack of 'ecumenism/communion' with LCMS.

LOL!

so, if someone from your flock comes to you upset with some secret sin...what do you remind them of?
do you look to see if they are sorry for the right reason?

or do they come to you at all?

do you give them Law? or Gospel?

mind you, since you receive direct revelation, you've already read their mail...lol.

middleman indeed - the Apostle/Prophet/Pastor who hears from God says : "here's a word of knowledge"...."God told me just this morning...." (cough).

stephen - what are the keys Jesus gave to peter & the church?

Belief and Practice - The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod-What About the Gospel?

Another way the Gospel can be obscured is when too much
emphasis is put on an emotional response to the Gospel. Some
Christians believe that unless they have some sort of ecstatic,
charismatic experience,or feel some sort of “spiritual high,”
they are not really Christians. It is truly sad that some people
look into their own hearts for the security that they are children
of God,instead of putting their hope and trust in the objective
work of Christ for them, and in the means God uses to come to
them—His Word and Sacraments

Gee, they really don't like Charismatics, do they?

i think it says it's truly sad that some Christians feel they aren't truly Christians if they don't feel some sort of “spiritual high”.

isn't that what it says?

and isn't' that often the testimony? sure it is:)

as for the Word and baptism and the Lord's Supper....do you neglect any of those?
WHY?

in any case...making assertions (OP), then not backing them up...

....and just having one member rant and not respond to the answers to the questions and concerns raised, is fruitless.
but seeking answers and considering them isn't the point.

okay then.....ta

Zone, you have your answers.
What more do you need?
You belong to a liturgical assembly.

There is nothing wrong with that.
So you receive a host, that's fine.
- In the apostle's day it was a full meal. - Nothing wrong either way.

If I believe I am of the same faith as taught by our Lord, the Salvation of Yahweh, what would the name of my denomination be? It would have to be the same denomination as Yeshua, Jesus, so

What denomination is Jesus?

It seems the saying is true, you receive honor from each other while forgetting about God..............

We're to put our trust in what Jesus has done outside of us on the cross and resurrection, and not put trust on some spiritual high we may feel inside.

stephen - what are the keys Jesus gave to peter & the church?
I remind them of the Scriptures:

1 John 2:1 (KJV) [SUP]1 [/SUP]My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
Hebrews 4:14-16 (KJV) [SUP]14 [/SUP]Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. [SUP]15 [/SUP]For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. [SUP]16 [/SUP]Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Romans 5:20 (KJV) [SUP]20 [/SUP]Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
Romans 6:1-4 (KJV) [SUP]1 [/SUP]What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? [SUP]2 [/SUP]God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? [SUP]3 [/SUP]Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? [SUP]4 [/SUP]Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

EVERY CHRISTIAN needs to know that when they sin, they can IMMEDIATELY go to prayer, directly confessing their sins to the Father & repenting while their heart is softened by conviction. If they wait till their meeting with their pastor, They could become calloused & hardened. By then, it's just going thru the motions, not true repentance.

Belief and Practice - The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod-The Sacrament of the Altar
What is Jesus giving us in the Lord’s Supper?

In the Sacrament of the Altar our Lord and Savior is continually
distributing to us the body and blood of the sacrifice
He made for us, the sacrifice by which He paid for the sins of
the entire world. Thus, receiving His body and blood, we
receive forgiveness, life and salvation.
Flowing from these
tremendous treasures of God’s mercy are the love, peace and
hope that He gives us in His Supper, and the ability and desire
to do God’s will, living in love and harmony with others.

Hebrews 10:10 (KJV) [SUP]10 [/SUP]By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Not every time we have communion!

Luke 22:19 (KJV) [SUP]19 [/SUP]And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
1 Corinthians 11:23-25 (KJV) [SUP]23 [/SUP]For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: [SUP]24 [/SUP]And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. [SUP]25 [/SUP]After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

it wasn't answers i was looking for.
i was offering them to objections and complaints raised by folks who either don't understand or are just on a mis......

we have full meals at our church....and at homes.

the bread and the wine (real wine for Lutherans...not grape juice;)) are what the Lord said were His Body & Blood offered for us.

not their potlucks they brought together for fellowship (lovefeasts).

k? we don't eat meals during our service.
we break the bread and drink from the cup.

What should that same person FEEL AFTER they receive Christ? Happy, joyful, clean, innocent, pure, sanctified, holy.
Like it or not, we humans were created to feel & so we shall when God calls us on the carpet. God himself feels. The heavenly hosts rejoice over our conversion:

Luke 15:7 (KJV) [SUP]7 [/SUP]I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

If they don't feel nothin', they didn't get nothin'.

For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth . Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. 1 Cor 5:11-13

Now that is spiritual. You should be very proud of yourself.
Of what value is anybody's "spirituality" if it is deficient of truth ? Every kind of truth Jack. Not just what we read in God's sacred Word. But those thoughts and feelings that we express to others whose paths we cross in this life. It is foolhardy to proclaim a genuine love for God ... and in the next breath claim ignorance and/or innocence of a disingenuous and purposely intended malicious post ... as your first reference to the LCMS in this thread clearly was ... with Zone clearly being the target in your crosshairs. So if you don't mind me asking, could you at least cut out the cr@p and quit pretending that your "hebrew christian" personna is going to make your hypocrisy acceptable in the eyes of God. Because it won't.

How is Jesus present in His Supper?

We do not try to explain how Jesus is present under the
bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper, rather we believe, teach,
confess and rejoice that He is present. We Lutherans let the words
of Jesus stand without arguing about their possibility,or trying
to explain how they are true.As Luther put it so clearly,“We
maintain that the bread and the wine in the Supper are the true
body and blood of Christ”(SA III.6).Everyone who communes
receives into their mouths the body and blood of Jesus Christ,
whether they believe it or not,be they worthy or unworthy.

The holy flesh of God,which the angelic hosts adore in
the unity of the divine nature, before which archangels bow in
lowly reverence, and before which the principalities and powers
of heaven tremble and stand in awe,has become the nourishment
for our souls.Let the heavens rejoice and the earth be
glad (Ps.96:11),but still more let the believing soul exult and
sing for joy,to whom God gives such an unspeakable gift!”7

If they don't feel nothin', they didn't get nothin'.
well we agree on this.
remorse and shame over sin - leading to confession and cleansing from all unrighteousness.
some folks still carry their guilty conscience after confessing....and need some reminding from their pastor - or any other christian that Christ has forgiven them for all of their sins:)

other folks believe confession isn't required or important.
i don't know what they feel.

being reminded that Christ forgives does restore the joy of one's salvation.

but the feeling, regardless, should be one of peace.

...

as for falling down; trancing out; needing to feel something during or as a result of some unknown prayer language; or yelling fire fire and whatnot, we needn't go there since we agree - on what you said in this post.
