My grandson in law is WAY ahead of you. He says that all candles are immoral because witches use them. So, I see the light of the world and the light of the truth, etc. it symbolizes to me as I light the candle, and you see the candle itself. It is your problem.

All scripture uses what people do, and objects we know about to explain God. It is because we are human. When Moses freed the Hebrews from slavery it was used to explain a spiritual principle. If you can't handle the symbolism of a simple thing like the light candles gives, what would you do with this symbolism the bible speaks of?

So how do you get around Jesus telling His followers to do and teach the law until heaven and earth pass away? And that if they do, they'll be greater than the ones who don't do and teach the law?
Exodus 20:24) An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.
25 .) And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it. 26 .) Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.

Leviticus 20:7) Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. 8 .) And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you. 9 .) For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him. 10 .) And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. 11 .) And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. 12 .) And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them. 13 .) If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. 14 .) And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you. 15 .) And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast.

Leviticus 24:15) And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin.
16 .) And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death. 17 .) And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death. 18 .) And he that killeth a beast shall make it good; beast for beast. 19 .) And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him;
20 .) Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.
21 .) And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death. 22 .) Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.

Numbers 15:1) And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 .) Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land of your habitations, which I give unto you, 3 .) And will make an offering by fire unto the LORD, a burnt offering, or a sacrifice in performing a vow, or in a freewill offering, or in your solemn feasts, to make a sweet savour unto the LORD, of the herd, or of the flock: 4 .) Then shall he that offereth his offering unto the LORD bring a meat offering of a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of an hin of oil. 5 .) And the fourth part of an hin of wine for a drink offering shalt thou prepare with the burnt offering or sacrifice, for one lamb. 6 .) Or for a ram, thou shalt prepare for a meat offering two tenth deals of flour mingled with the third part of an hin of oil. 7 .) And for a drink offering thou shalt offer the third part of an hin of wine, for a sweet savour unto the LORD. 8 .) And when thou preparest a bullock for a burnt offering, or for a sacrifice in performing a vow, or peace offerings unto the LORD: 9 .) Then shall he bring with a bullock a meat offering of three tenth deals of flour mingled with half an hin of oil. 10 .) And thou shalt bring for a drink offering half an hin of wine, for an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD. 11 .) Thus shall it be done for one bullock, or for one ram, or for a lamb, or a kid. 12 .) According to the number that ye shall prepare, so shall ye do to every one according to their number.
13 .) All that are born of the country shall do these things after this manner, in offering an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD. 14 .) And if a stranger sojourn with you, or whosoever be among you in your generations, and will offer an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD; as ye do, so he shall do. 15 .) One ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger that sojourneth with you, an ordinance for ever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD. 16 .) One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you. 17 .) And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 18 .) Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land whither I bring you, 19 .) Then it shall be, that, when ye eat of the bread of the land, ye shall offer up an heave offering unto the LORD. 20 .) Ye shall offer up a cake of the first of your dough for an heave offering: as ye do the heave offering of the threshingfloor, so shall ye heave it. 21 .) Of the first of your dough ye shall give unto the LORD an heave offering in your generations. 22 .) And if ye have erred, and not observed all these commandments, which the LORD hath spoken unto Moses, 23 .) Even all that the LORD hath commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day that the LORD commanded Moses, and henceforward among your generations; 24 .) Then it shall be, if ought be committed by ignorance without the knowledge of the congregation, that all the congregation shall offer one young bullock for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour unto the LORD, with his meat offering, and his drink offering, according to the manner, and one kid of the goats for a sin offering. 25 .) And the priest shall make an atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them; for it is ignorance: and they shall bring their offering, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD, and their sin offering before the LORD, for their ignorance: 26 .) And it shall be forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourneth among them; seeing all the people were in ignorance. 27 .) And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall bring a she goat of the first year for a sin offering. 28 .) And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the LORD, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him. 29 .) Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them. 30 .) But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 31 .) Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him. 32 .) And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day. 33 .) And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation. 34 .) And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him. 35 .) And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. 36 .) And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.

rehbein,

For the record, I've never ONCE advocated doing every command physically. Obviously, I'm not advocating the killing or stoning of people, and I'm slightly embarrassed for you that you even brought up such a silly example.

My point is that every command of the law has a spiritual and/or physical application to it for Christians today.

But the fact still remains, Jesus told His followers to follow the Law.

Matthew 5:19

"Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches
others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

and I remember you speaking of trying to keep the Law "spiritually........" {My point is that every command of the law has a spiritual and/or physical application to it for Christians today.}

Did Jesus not say that if a man commits murder in his heart.................is guilty of murder?

And while you personally do not advocate keeping ALL THE LAW literally, there are those here that do.........

So, again, I must ask: Would SOMEONE provide a definitive LIST of the Laws the Church today is bound by obedience TO KEEP! Have asked many times............yet to get a definitive answer............best answer yet was.........

I can see your very well studied and i congratulate you and i apologise whole heatedly for any discomfort you may have been caused dew to this thread.

I must say to you to say that THE OLD COVENANT OBSOLETE! is absolute can also make people think that all of its ways are also obsolete.
I think the only thing that became obsolete is the ceremonial law spoke in daniel [SUP]27 [/SUP]He will confirm a covenant with many for one “seven”.[SUP][b][/SUP] In the middle of the “seven”[SUP][c][/SUP] he will put an end to sacrifice and offering.

I think it is important to establish this point in future when ever you make this statement that the old convent is absolute.
I am glad that you can bring good food to the table with your studies and i hope that some how we can find some common ground including red tent and your self.

How ever being well studied in the Bible i think does not give anyone that right to form an opinion that one can completely lean on these matters this is when one can become to self righteous This is why we need to express are opinions and not force them by saying boastful thing in a boastful way.
Im not saying you have its just a shame you have not been able to tell red tent you well studied under better circumstances but im sure red tent will understand this.

If i had your knowledge i would just probably say something like i am well studied and i hope i can teach and learn with you.
Every student is also a possible teacher what you teach him or her has an effect and teaching in love and understanding is right.

I understand that this can become thrust straightening But with the right friends what does it matter.
If someone undermines you and with the peace and grace and knowledge of Jesus no evil can enter and no one can do your heart any harm, it should always a pleasure to proclaim. God bless

I am sorry it sounded like bragging and being boastful. It was specifically addressed to Redtent, who has called me out numerous times on this board for not studying the Old Testament or knowing it. I realized after, I should have mentioned that it was not to glorify me in any way, but a rebuttal to the constant battering Redtent has done to me. I did not mention the many other courses I have taken, nor the marks, because the discussion was specifically about the accusations RedTent continues to throw at me.

Of course, I have accused her of only knowing one verse from Psalm 119, and I still have yet to see her post any other verses. Maybe she knows other verses, maybe not. They are just not being posted here.

Further, as to whether the law is obsolete, if you would READ THE BIBLE you would see that God says it, in his Word, not me.

"In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away." Hebrews 8:13

"In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away." Hebrews 8:13

"In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away." Hebrews 8:13

Maybe if I just post the same verse over and over, then you will see what the Bible actually says about this? Or you could read Hebrews carefully yourself, and see that the entire book is about this. So is the entire New Testament for that matter. And it is also prophesied in the Old Testament that the Old Covenant would pass away.

Sorry for my oversight, I am going through a lot of other issues, and didn't think about the way I had worded it was not appropriate, and I ask forgiveness for anyone who thought I was telling about my courses and marks to glorify myself. I give God the glory for everything, including every single course and mark I got in Seminary!

I am sort of picky about word use and grammar, Zinzerio. Just one thing specifically.

"Pacific" is an ocean between Asia and North America. "Specific" refers to a special item. It would help me read your posts if you would specifically ask for something specific, instead of bringing a big ocean into the discussion. Thanks!

One ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger that sojourneth with you, an ordinance for ever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD.

SO, How are you guys "getting around these TODAY?
It is to our shame that we can pass over this scripture without learning a thing from it! Many people read it and only are able to get the impression that God is a God who cares nothing for human life, but justifies killing! That is reading it without any of spiritual understanding and to their blindness and not for their light.

Here is how one man explains it: "Let me share a difficult (and for some, unwelcome) principle with you that Yehoveh teaches us in Torah: to end the life of a person who takes innocent life unjustly, is actually preserving life. To kill a person who violates God’s holiness ordinances is actually preserving holiness. When we justly execute a murderer in accordance with God’s laws then two things have been accomplished: God’s justice has been served, and this person who has a propensity to wantonly take life is no longer a threat. From the Law’s point of view, to execute a person who violates God’s holiness in a severe way serves to rid the community of a virulent cancer that can spread and ultimately take SPIRITUAL LIFE away from other individuals who might be swayed to do the same; from the family, from the community at large, even from the land itself because sin can even defile the land we live upon (remember, it is also a Biblical principle that a land and its people are organically intertwined)."

A person who is spiritually blind to God will not be able to see God in these passages, and there is nothing that be said to those people that will open their eyes. It is like trying to tell a Jew that Jesus lived on earth when that Jew has decided that He didn't. Could you hear that if you opened your eyes to your creator and what his principles are, how our earth is to be operated, there is great growth open to you?

and I remember you speaking of trying to keep the Law "spiritually........" {My point is that every command of the law has a spiritual and/or physical application to it for Christians today.}

Genesis to Revelation...........
Who here is advocating keeping "ALL THE LAW literally" to the point of sacrifices and stoning?

Personally though, I can find a spiritual application to every command in the Torah, and a physical one for a large amount of them.

And in regards to your request, what do you mean by "bound to obedience"? I think this is a crucial phrase to understand before it can be answered.

Peace,
Matt

I have NEVER said that you, a great scholar, have not studied the OT. I have said numerous times that you deny what it teaches, you have not studied the culture thoroughly enough (according to the opinions of it you have expressed) of the people to know what spiritual truths the OT represents. Your posts also express that you do not know how the OT and NT fit together, as you express by your objection to my learning from it as one illustration.

You really feel that I am wrong to study the word obsolete so thoroughly, you want it accepted as saying all is obsolete. You have objected to what I say Paul wanted us to learn about law. We do not agree! You think it is important that I see scripture your way, and I feel it is important to the very church itself that you do not teach some of these things. Your opinion and mine is not important, but what God says is. We both use scripture. I think you need to use more scripture and you think I should use more scripture. We are both used by God for teaching. We both need prayer for each other.

You know what it says, you know you do and I know you do. I feel your teaching about the word obsolete is incorrect, and if you would study bible you would also find just what is obsolete. As an example. You know the new covenant thoroughly, yet you deny anything any other covenant says, and denying scripture is wrong.

Practically, how do you serve others? Is it possible that some of the the how's are found in the OT?

Well of course. That does not mean they were found in the law, that was not the purpose of the law

The commands, or instructions, can absolutely tell you what do, and if you're doing it right. i.e. Don't eat unclean foods. OK, I didn't eat pork. OK, I did it. It's not only telling me that I'm doing it poorly.

Thats law.

Why did he say not to eat pork? There was a reason. The command do not eat pork does not explain why you do it.

Who said this? And where?
I can keep plenty of the commands. I can't do them all perfectly, but that was never the sole purpose.
Yes it was. did you even read the passages which prove this? Both moses and paul commented? Cursed is the one who does not confirm ALL of the words and obey them. As paul said, God removed us from the curse.

That was why they were given. Do you not understand what a schoolmaster or tutor is?

Absolutely not, and hat's exactly what Jesus said. Why do you think the priests had to do double duty on the Sabbath? Because they were serving God, and others.
hey we agree :)

It is a curse that sin means death. You are expanding that curse to include all the words given in scripture with instructions to us in it.
No.. Why do you continue to twist what I say. Did moses say it was a curse not to obey the whole bible?

THE LAW is the curse. Again paul said this. How many times do we have to post these verses before it sinks in to you people??

Gal 3
[SUP]10 [/SUP]For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them

Again, your argument is with God not me, ANd don;t twist my words to mean the whole bible. That is deceptive and bearing false witness

That scripture was written on stone, and you add that as part of the curse you call scripture. And saying that God declared scripture, not sin, a curse. If you are right, then we have nothing solid of God to rely on, there is no scripture that could not be turned to a curse by time. At the time that Moses carried that stone down the mountain, God did not declare it a curse, so you say that God changed to something else, God can't be relied on, God can change? For me personally, I would rather read scripture as a part of the whole of scripture, with a need for me to understand better than to say that God is not eternal.

lol.. Again read what moses said. Second, the only thing written in stone was the ten commandments, Moses wrote the rest on whatever it was they wrote on in those days (most likely scrolls)

Again, Your argument is with God not me

Sure it can.
Does the Spirit ever prompt you to do something? Of course it does.
Was the Holy Spirit involved in the writing of the commands? Of course it was.
Does the Spirit ever prompt someone to follow one of the commands? Absolutely. Every day for me.
well thats sad.

You would think the spirit would have better things for you to do than things we all know we need to do in the first place.

If the HS has to show you to obey the law. You must be lacking in things.

look at my post everone please post 113

it is one paragraph. It reads,," actually keeping the ten commandments through the word of the new covenant is what saves you as i believe the ten commandments cover every eventuality You can take THAT as me thinking it is only works that saves or you could take it as works through faith, John 14:15 Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
15"If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. 16"I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;

you eternily gratefull have quoted me just on this actually keeping the ten commandments through the word of the new covenant is what saves you

and do not try to get out of it you know exactly what you have done is wrong
dude, keeping the ten commandments by the old covenant or the new will not save you..

Get over it You act like they are different commands, they are not. And you CAN NOT KEEP THEM IN A WAY TO SAVE YOURSELF,

I imagine something is getting lost in translation when you compare the concept of the "ministry of death" with this:

Deuteronomy 28: 1-14

“Now it shall be, if you diligently obey the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you [b]obey the Lord your God:

3 “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the [c]country.
4 “Blessed shall be the [d]offspring of your [e]body and the [f]produce of your ground and the [g]offspring of your beasts, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock.
5 “Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
6 “Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.
7 “The Lord shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be [h]defeated before you; they will come out against you one way and will flee before you seven ways. 8 TheLord will command the blessing upon you in your barns and in all that you put your hand to, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God gives you. 9 The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself, as He swore to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways. 10 So all the peoples of the earth will see that [i]you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will be afraid of you. 11 The Lord will make you abound in prosperity, in the [j]offspring of your [k]body and in the [l]offspring of your beast and in the [m]produce of your ground, in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers to give you. 12 The Lord will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. 13 The Lordwill make you the head and not the tail, and you only will be above, and you will not be underneath, if you listen to the commandments of the Lord your God, which I charge you today, to [n]observe them carefully, 14 and do not turn aside from any of the words which I command you today, to the right or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them."
Deuteronomy 27:26Cursed is the one who does not confirm all the words of this law by observing them.’ “And all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
