You will get church of christ who say baptism saves you..then you get reformers who have tajen many catholic traditions yet want to syill be protestant..case oin point baby baptism...i say keep looking. I was baptised when i was a baby as a cathoilc..i rebaptised when i gave my life to Jesus...i honestlydo not plan on getting dunked again..i believe baptism is a command from God...yet i do not believe it could save you..just steer clear of any and all baby baptisers and those who insisct getting dunked saves you..sadly aome churches dangle baptism as a carrot that you get upon identifying and belonging to their church..which is not only unbiblical..its manipulative.

so is taking communion. Commanded by Christ himself "do often"

so is assembling ourselves together.

so is giving to the poor

so is loving God, and our neighbor as ourself.

I can name many more commands of Christ. yet non of these will save you. neither will baptism in water.

When we do these things (including allowing ourselves to be baptized) we are obeying Gods commands and becoming more Christlike. But if we have not been washed by the HS (washing of water BY THE WORD) we are doing human works, and they will all be judged at the end when all your works are judged, Yet you will be found wanting, because you rejected the only thing which can save you (FAITH in CHRIST) and replaced it with FAITH in your OWN WORKS.

Satan has spent thousands of years convincing mankind he needs to work to earn his own salvation. He conned the jews into thinking circumcision was essential and mandatory, He has done the same with the church in the area of baptism.

You would think mankind would learn from our mistakes. but we keep making the same ones over and over.

we need more believer's baptizing each other!
What if somebody is believing in the Mormon god or the JW god...some other christ?
What if the one about to baptize hasn't understood what the other believes?

Thats why in the NT the one who led you to Christ usually baptizes you. If your following a mormon of JW, you have more to worry about than getting baptized!

If I led someone to Christ, who is stopping me from taking that person and baptizing them? In my church that is how we do it. It has more meaning.

Baptism is of water+spirit
Acts 22
12“A certain Ananias, a man who was devout by the standard of the Law, and well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there, 13came to me, and standing near said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight!’ And at that very time I looked up at him. 14“And he said, ‘The God of our fathers has appointed you to know His will and to see the Righteous One and to hear an utterance from His mouth. 15‘For you will be a witness for Him to all men of what you have seen and heard. 16‘Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.’

Hebrews 10:22
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

My hypothetical was what if [you in this case] believed a false gospel?
One false convert converting another.

Is why the churches are careful, and why you need to be careful.
Some may insist you join them: others will listen to your profession and if they deem it to be orthodox (good, right belief), they'll baptize you. I would be comforted by the fact they want to know about you first. Just as you ought to know what they believe.

Joining an assembly is important xino, it might take awhile, but you will find one. We need each other, face-to-face.
You may find the church you were baptized by/in isn't the one you eventually call home, that's okay - it is the Lord who is working in you.

John 15:3
You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

Ephesians 5:26
that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,

It is the word of the Gospel which makes us clean.

Why do you despise baptism?
Not sure why you are downgrading it. The command to repent and be baptized is pretty clear.

Paul wasn't in the room with Jesus and the disciples, btw.
Yet he obeyed, arose and was baptized.

I am not despising baptism, why would you say this?

I am refuting a false gospel of works which makes the WORK of baptism a pre-requisite to EARN salvation.

Not of works. why do people want to work?

I obeyed, I rose and was baptized. BECAUSE I was saved, not in order to gain my salvation.

lol. If I did not get baptized, i would probably also not be doing many things a person who has truly repented with true faith would do.

As James said. My faith would probably be dead.

so was I not saved because I was not baptized, or because i did not have saving faith?

Or how about another senerio. I have saving faith, But before I could be baptized I am killed by a drunk driver. Am I doomed to hell because I was not baptized?

No.

What's your point?
I don't understand why there is any argument/discussion debating baptism whatsoever.
It is a beautiful, holy, gracious gift. A joy.
It is part of the Gospel.

No.

What's your point?
My point is, if baptism is required. like some here demand, Than that person is doomed to hell. The only way he would not be doomed to hell is if it is not a prerequisite.

Of course he would not be doomed to hell though, He was baptized by the SPirit the moment he placed his faith in Christ. He just did not have the opportunity to be baptised in water yet.

1. It is not a part of the gospel. It is part of the commands given by God to be obedient after we recieve the gospel. Along with other commands. Like take the Lord's supper. Assemble ourselves together, feed the poor Love the lord our God and neighbor etc etc.. It is part of the sanctification process. not the justification process.
2. There is argument because some people make it a work required to EARN salvation, which is a false Gospel. A false gospel will not save you.

I actually just got baptised yesterday. I just found a great church in my area, met with the pastor, and arranged my baptism. I was baptised by immersion in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It was a wonderful experience :)

Acts 2
37Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

been there done that

repent, forgiveness of sin and gift are 2nd person plural. these things were offered to everyone there

baptism was only commanded to those who recieved remission of sin, as they are both 3rd person singular (in other words, he gave this command to only a select group of people. NOT all of them. as he did when he gave the command to repent )

you can't make a doctrine out of one verse. especially when it is horribly translated and does not fit the origional greek. to many other passages tell us all we need to do is believe and we will have eternal life (be born again), or call out on the name of the lord to be saved.

Like I told your buddy, If you want to earn your salvation by doing works. feel free.

As for me, I received the GIFT God offered me based on his son, not on any work of righteousness I did.
