I mean do we not a lot of times use someone else's writing to explain a point? So what's actually wrong with using someone else's writing to explain our belief if it Biblical? If they can explain it better then use it. In fact for me to explain the Sovereignty of God I would use J. I. Packer, R.C. Sproul and A. W. Pink. Why? Because they explain it better than I could.

strange world. lol monkey majic
I'll Tell you what and this is one thing that really pisses me off! Because a certain person used another's writing to explain something easier, they immediately follow that person? THAT'S BS!!!. Now yeah there are certain people who obviously follow a certain persons belief or teaching, proof shown by previous posts. But to immediately jump to that conclusion is totally judgemental. The one person who I can think of who actually did that proved it by many posts daily. And mean more than once daily. If I were to quote Luther once would that mean I was lutheran?

Yeah I just got a lot of people mad at me well I ain't here to glorify you...get over it!! Yeah James "Son of thunder"? Yeah call me "Son of thunder lightning hail and high winds"!!! I am tired of people making judgement calls off of one post. I am sure you all appreciate it when it's done to you too!!

Yeah I may not agree with their doctrine but unless they show, more than once, they follow a teaching taught by a certain person I ain't gonna judge!

I'll use someone else's writing to explain something easier than I could! But I'll NEVER say anything contrary to God's Word!

I am not talking about Paul peter John or anyone else who had a hand in writing God's Word. I am talking about guys who just mite know more than us...Spurgeon Lewis sproul packer calvin luther bonhoefer little geisler pink macarthur Schafer you know regular guys. Where do we come off saying that
they used another guys writings they are following them.

Take my words out of context add meanings that aren't there add words that aren't there.

I'm not perfect I am wrong sometimes. But I study God's word seems most people just read.

You say I am on a high horse? Nope I am on my belly in the mud because that is where my sin put me. Only the Holy Spirit can get me out of the mud. If I make it to my knees before I die. I did ok.

I do not believe baptism is a work of righteousness . It is a work of faith. Works righteousness are works that we do thanking we are earning our salvation. See Titus 3:5.

The power is in the blood, as the song goes. But we contact that blood when we are baptized into Christ. Gal. 3:26-27.
If the power is in the blood and water was necessary then why at the Passover (which is the picture) did the Lord not say..WHEN I see the BLOOD and the WATER I will pass over you!

Now understand this is not me on a high horse "convicting" others but a conviction of myself. I've been guilty of all of this before. I like Paul see myself as the worse. If the Holy Spirit touches you or "convicts" you by what I wrote then look at it. I am bringing myself before God on what I have written so that through the Holy Spirit I can grow in Christ. And I am making a public confession that I am guilty before God and man of everything I wrote.

Me personally I like to study all the words and pray and come to conclusions....I rarely quote another man unless it is a biblical source I.E. quoting an inspired writer of the bible....not that other men don't teach the truth and or explain the truth in a truthful way....ay the end of the day the bible's best commentary is the bible itself......again this is just me and to each his own for sure..........!

I never preach works, I am the cross preacher and the work was done at the cross. It is by faith in the work of the cross that sets us free and allows the Holy Spirit to work in us producing fruit and not of our own.
Too bad more don't preach the cross as most are ashamed of the Cross of Christ for sure and or embarrassed about publically claiming Jesus!

Romans 1:16 "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes: first for the Jesus, then for the Gentile."

One way I look at it would be in a way like a dictionary. I don't always have the words to express my belief but someone might have written about it in a way to describe it better. Not that I believe all their writing but a particular subject, as long as it Biblical, they describe it better than I could. I know there are some things I can't put into words correctly so I would use someone else's explanation to explain my view. If it's not Biblical I wouldn't use it to explain a theological point. Yes I know the Bible is our source and only my source for my belief. Kinda like "as so and so said.....".

Now if your using a person to define your beliefs (like we have seen with the Cambelites) then yeah way wrong way to define your theology.

Now this is sad...5 years ago I bought a baseball hat that says "Jesus" on it. I wear baseball hats almost always even at home (not in bed or the shower lol). This hat still looks brand new. I just started wearing it again because I realized I need to be that person who isn't ashamed. I was afraid of what people would think or say.

Funny cause when I wear it people around me talk and act totally different. I have even had people ask me about it so kind of an opening to talk to them. I have only had one person actually say it offended him. I just said "I am sorry..I'll pray for you"...he didn't say anything after I said I would pray for him.

We have no problem advertising Adidas or Nike or what ever. Why should we have a problem advertising Jesus!

The Bible says we are not saved by works.

The Bible says faith without works is dead which means if you do not have works then faith is void in your life and we are saved by faith.

This is not a contradiction not saved by works, saved by works.

Simply put,not saved by works-works of the flesh, saved by works,or
works to have faith activated in our life-works of the Spirit.

When the Bible says we are not saved by works it means we are not saved by anything we do according to the flesh like the Old Testament physical ordinances or false religions but only by Jesus Christ.

When the Bible says faith without works is dead it means
we have to have works of the Spirit to have faith activated in our life which we are saved by faith.

This is not talking about works to be initially saved because you are not living for God and being led of the Spirit except repenting, but
after you are initially saved you have to have works of the Spirit to have faith activated in your life.

So we are not saved by any works we do according to the flesh to be right with God like the Old Testament physical ordinances or false religions, but
after we are initially saved we have to have works of the Spirit, like feed the poor, preach the Gospel, and do good,
to have faith active in our life.

So there is no contradiction between the 2 because one is trying to get to heaven by works according to the flesh which will not save us,and the other is
doing works of the Spirit to have faith active in our life.

Works of the flesh-no bearing on salvation,
works of the Spirit-faith active in your life, bearing on salvation. No contradiction.

We all know we have to have works of the Spirit after we are saved so there should be no problem with that scripture faith without works is dead, because we all must preach the Gospel, feed and clothe the poor, and generally love people.

The Bible says work out your own salvation with fear and trembling so what do people think of that one because it sounds like we have a responsibility in our salvation after we are saved to keep ourselves right without slipping.
"You have to have works to have faith active in your life" is actually a deviation from the Scriptural notion.

Our works do not activate our faith (make it active).

Our faith activates us to obedience (our works).

Our works manifest, reveal our living faith.

It is faith which produces the works.

The works do not activate the faith.

Faith is the cause of the action, works are the result of a saving faith.

No doubt and I agree for sure.....It is amazing how some will change how they act or talk when they find out that you are a believer for sure......!

Such simple truth and for sure many miss this as it is evident that saving faith saves and then goes on to produce biblical works....

The problem comes down to a couple things..God isn't Sovereign, God's grace isn't enough, The works of Christ aren't enough, and the biggest thing...I want to be in control.

Until you give up control you can never truly understand the power of God's grace.

I apologize to everybody for my inability to put my beliefs into words. And I apologize for my frustration because of that.
I feel so out of my depth when in the bible forums be cause I do know the bible and love the study of it but I am not a scholar of the word. I get soooo frustrated that I cant partake in the debates like my new friends elin...crossnote...jesusisall ..psychomom and dcontroversal.

I simply adore their faith and ability to articulate their beliefs.

So I just use my like button and pray..
