Daniel 2 records Nebuchadnezzar's dream of a statue/image and Daniel's interpretation of the dream. The king sees in his dream a statue with a head of gold, arms and chest of silver, belly and thighs of brass, and legs of iron with feet of iron mixed with clay. Then an Unhewn Stone dashes the statue to pieces and it blows away in the wind, while the Stone becomes a mountain filling the whole Earth.
Dan 2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
Dan 2:45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
The kingdoms are Babylon, the Medo-Persian empire under Cyrus the Great and Darius the Mede, the Greeks, and Rome. The Unhewn Stone is Jesus Christ. The mountain which fills the whole Earth is the Kingdom of God, initiated by Christ and which will outlast all human empires.
The entire passage is worthy of study, as is the parallel passage of Scripture, Daniel 7, which outlines the last four superpowers before Christ is given Lordship over all things.
