John 6:29;
"The work of God is this; to believe in the one he has sent."
There are no greater works we can do.
This is it.
Our belief in Jesus Christ by the grace of God is what saves us.
Not how many times we feed the poor.
Not anything else.
Don't add anything to the Gospel.
This is it.
But bro how could you confess you believe in Jesus Christ yet do no “works” when the scriptures clearly states; James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
In context with the scriptures; After the miracle, John 6:26-30 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
The people did not see the miracle; they just wanted a free feed.
Then they quoted Moses; John 6:31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
Basically Jesus explained the difference between the bread Moses gave (from God) was to save them from hunger (flesh); Jesus today is the bread of life (spiritual bread), John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
This is work of God/the meat which endureth unto everlasting life- Jesus Christ is the Word of God.
To confirm your belief one must be; James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Difference between the sheep and the goat; Matthew 25:32-33 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
The sheep; Matthew 25:34-40 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
The goat; Matthew 25:41-46 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
We cannot “add to salvation” but we need to follow God’s Will for salvation to secure our salvation.
