I find that the more I die the less I care for this world. It was hard...I had to go into starvation. Literally. To deny myself things I liked of this world. But little by little...I found that I don't even miss those things or want them. It's lovely to have the time with Him instead.
Why?

The Son of Man came eating and drinking when john the baptist survived on wild honey and locusts.

I mean, it's great that you would want to set things aside for the purpose of God but, ehm.

We need to distract ourselves a little...because the soul hurts from the way things are in this world....the suffering in it and death and pain...which was not how He wanted it or made it originally for Adam and Eve.

But I'd say there is a different between managing and whole hog following the natural man, and natural desires, yes...that some chase after.
Adam and eve ate...

Yes. But it's a good thing for us that someone else is the author and finisher of our faith.

He's the potter.

Who is absolutely perfect? Myself, i'm on here debating and hanging out partially because it fulfills a need in me to have something to do that involves godliness. Is that selfish? Yes, in a way. But so is eating or sleeping. People do stuff to fill time. It's selfish in that it fulfills a natural desire in the self and people chase after that.

We're not going to be rid of that until later, one way or the other.
We can't get rid of these ape frames /natural self in this fallen construct true. But we can die as much as we can to the self and keep our connection to this world to a minimum.

He never found a problem with it either, it's that man should not live by bread alone.

Exactly ...100% agreed, now what's wrong with this Jason.

I find no flaw in that. ive been trying to say obedience to Jesus is not like obedience to the law. Jesus teaches the Kingdom of God. the law in Jesus provides us forgiveness, allows us to stumble and fall, allows us to lose faith ebven as peter did, hes ther I never evr said different. when I'm saying obey, I'm saying obey what he taught. that's why the gospel is where its at for us. His ways are perfect. we have forgiveness, mercy, justice and also the thing about just accepting this : I NEED to believe what Jesus says over any other words. that will bring obedience because if we hold that He is the Lord, we will cleave to His word. the issue I have had forv=ever. is when a new form of "gospel" breaks out. like heakth and wealth, or gog. only because they require to make void a lot of Jesus words in order to validate their gospel. but Jesus is the gospel. I do believe He teaches an obligation to obey the things He teaches, because he says it again and again. I'm not perfect, there is one who is though, and by setting our hearts to His ways and words, there is a washing of our nature. His words when we know they are true and we keep them in our minds " be transformed n=by the renewing of your mind through the washing of the word" this is to acceot His words. if we do well see him saying obey, do this, you must do these things and be blessed ect. when we dwell on those things it changes that thing in us and we begin to be conformed to His thinking and His things become natural to us...." with constant use".....

the first steop is to accept Jeus words as the words of The Lord. after that man.......something truly does happen and we see other scriptures begin to actually change our lives. our new image is made by following Jesus ...and that is the truth

Jason, you don't find it odd that you put Jesus Christ's words above the apostle Paul's words? You said, if you had to choose you'd go with Jesus, but the problem with that is that they are in agreement. It isn't an either or, or for that matter should you even suggest such.

The word of God is inspired by the Holy Spirit. In the word of God, since it is all inspired, you cannot put emphasis over one section than another. Or, the red letters over the rest of the bible. That is dangerous. You ignore all that Jesus taught the apostle Paul and stay in the past of what was progressive revelation. Jesus, Himself, said He couldn't teach some things until the Holy Spirit came.

I think your emphasis of only focusing on the words of Jesus in your bible is sincerely wrong. If you do that you miss out on so much that God found necessary to share in the epistles. Indeed, you miss the very foundation that is Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. You still think your forgiveness and obedience somehow plays a part in your justification, yet to do so ignores what Jesus accomplished on our behalf (through His obedience). That is, reconciliation and the forgiveness of sins.

You keep recommending reading the four gospel accounts. I suggest you move past those four accounts and grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ that Jesus, Himself, revealed to the apostle Paul. You say you savor the words of Christ? He is speaking through the rest of the NT. My suggestion? Keep reading.

Paul say's that it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. I know that's deep and is what we are after. Paul said whether I live or die I must go to Jerusalem, even though all the towns he went through they said that he would be bound in chains and tried to stop Him from going. But the Spirit drove Him. Oh I pray and wish to God that I had His faith.

Bam, we all agree! This is if you mean in the flesh world, and not a salvation one. the gospel and Paul are in complete agreement, we aren't so much, but that's ok brother Jason, we are growing in Christ together.

Actually from what ive read of your posts here I don't really disagree with anything you've said, but I haven't read all the input yet. its not easy to die to the flesh at all. but the process of the=at is to follow Jesus. that puts us to death oif we remain in his teachings. think of them, their mostly about laying down pride, anger, lust greed ect......by following His teachings, we are slowly dying to that nature and clothing ourselves with his. just think how would we know His nature? by Hois words and thoughts foremost. that's why God wrote them down through 3 witnesses, and a forth gospel john. notice the 3 are so similar and John is different? and remember "every matter must be established by 2 or 3 witnesses?" matthew mark Luke.

Notice the only story repeated in 3 books is the gospel of our Lord and savior? there is a reason for that bro. ive kinda been mis understood, I'm not good at simply explaining, idk why, just me I guess I ramble. its annoying to most I know but I am what I am........the gospels are how we take on the nature of Christ. by believing them if we believe tham in our heart, well do what is told us to do, because we believe it. it is by faith, but faith is believing enough that we step forward into action. paul doesn't ever say faith is only an inner belief. if we add james statement on Faith it makes it complete the term "faith" scripture builds upon scripture, But Jesus is not divided, or built on or taken away. He is the foundation, the walls and the roof.

I am truly no one of any account, God made this plain to me long ago. But Jesus does indeed have every answer and every truth, my only value is that I know it to be true and cant keep silent

All His Souls are to do is focus on dying, as Paul says to...for the core soul, our inner being, to experience Christ who lives in us. To focus on the dying to the self and see what lovely things He has for us.

read the gospels daily for a bit, just a few chapters a day and your faith will grow, give it a month but take it as the truth as you read it, there is no faith more than what the accounts of the gospel offer. God bless you and may you receive all you ask of the Lord

I don't totally agree with the dying of self, We are not cookie cutter Christians and we have our feelings and likes and dislikes. Some dress funny and others have style, we have are humanity and the attributes of it, but to look to our self as the means for salvation or deliverance okay we must die to that.

Jesus also said this, that if He doesn't go... The Helper (Holy Spirit) can't come, so it's not until the resurrection things are complete, and sent on the day of Pentecost ... This is vital to understand.
