At one point I thought anyone could understand the Bible, but the longer I am around Christians I realize that those who (allegedly, but only God knows) have the Holy Spirit don’t necessarily want to listen or know how to listen to Him.
The Bible isn’t a normal book. Yes some of the surface information can be understood by just reading the words on the pages, but if someone can’t or won’t listen to the Holy Spirit then they’ll never really be able to understand most of the Bible with any depth of understanding.
I agree the Bible is not a normal book. It marvels me at the power within and that so much is there that no one can fully know it all, or understand it all,
As for the Holy Spirit, and I speak from my own experience, He seems to gift mr with understanding a little at a time, pertaining to verses or sections I had read many times or heard many times without fully grasping what really lies beneath the text.
1Jn_2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
That verse assures me that the Holy Spirit teaches me, as, without false modesty, I confess I do not grasp things easily at all.
And yes, I struggle with the dilemma of whether it is the Holy Spirit or just a theory, and why I and not a scholar who teaches differently. But I choose to believe it and that it is the Holy Spirit, based on my inability to pick up on things easily.
I also know much is hidden within the Bible. It is there for all to see, but without the Holy Spirit teaching me or reveling it to me, It may as well be Greek, and not translated from Greek.
But sharing is key. I do believe that as the Holy Spirit teaches us, we are to share what we have learned and it is that way the Holy Spirit teaches others as well because truth belongs to no man and all men.
I do hope that makes sense to you and I appreciate such an interesting topic and allowing all to comment on it. I level you with this verse that better explains when we must search the scriptures. Be well and blessed.
Pro_25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
