A bad example of Jewish conduct.
Gal 2:12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
Gal 2:13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
Gal 2:14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
From the above:
Peter knows that the Jewish conduct forbids Jews to eat/to have companion with the Gentiles (Acts 10:28)
On the Other hand…Gentiles had no known Law for such kind of conduct. (So it's ok for them to eat along)
Now when other Jews came…He withdraw separated himself (FEARING) that others might find fault in him disobeying Jewish conduct.
Peter without the eyes of those of the (judgmental) circumcision was eating with the Gentiles (probably believers) freely, living the Law of Liberty.
Because of the Law, Peter went back to obeying the Conduct of the Jews to avoid criticism. (righteousness by set rules of law)
Peter a Jew was living in the law of Liberty
The Gentiles (probably believer) with peter were just eating, even if those of the circumcision came…
What I would like to convey…
To be considered walking in the Law of liberty, One must be in bondage first.
The question then is, what Part of the Letter/Jewish conduct are applicable to Gentiles? Who decide which applicable and Not?
Do we say the 10 commandments?
And consider those who do not observe the Sabbath, unrighteous conduct of believers,
And Having two wives or more is Just a norm?
Deu 21:15 If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated:
HOW ABOUT ALL THAT LAW:
Gal 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
And I believed with or without the letter, that is the basic law of the majority of religions.
