Unfortunately, Islam has co-opted the word "Allah" just as the homosexuals have co-opted the word "gay." One can no longer say that they are gay and mean they are merry. So, too, in our culture, one can no longer use the word "Allah" and mean the one true God. Christian Arabs may need to come up with an alternative (just as we Americans say "happy" or "merry" when we mean "gay"). Perhaps Yahweh?
I never really used gay to mean happy, mostly because it had already been stolen before I learned that it previously meant happy. But I will not concede defeat in regard to the Rainbow. THEY CAN'T HAVE IT!

Yeah, I know, I am probably in denial, but, in this case, I find it to be better to remain in denial. :)

Thank you for reponding logically instead of reactng emotionally. I think just listening to how Arab Chirstians describe God from the Bible in their language, that He is one God who is three persons, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, and how the Son come to the world and died on the cross to take away the sins of the world and rose again on the third day is enough to avoid any confusion. Consider the following below from Wikipedia:

Allah (English pronunciation: /ˈælə/ or /ˈɑːlə/; Arabic: الله‎ Allāh, IPA: [ʔalˤˈlˤɑːh] (
listen)) is the Arabic word for God (al ilāh, iliterally "the God").[SUP][1][2][3][/SUP] The word has cognates in other Semitic languages, including Alah in Aramaic, ʾĒl in Canaanite and Elohim in Hebrew.[SUP][4]

It is used mainly by Muslims to refer to God in Islam,[SUP][5][/SUP] but it has also been used by Arab Christians since pre-Islamic times.[SUP][[/SUP]

The Aramaic word for "God" in the language of Assyrian Christians is ʼĔlāhā, or Alaha. Arabic-speakers of all Abrahamic faiths, including Christians and Jews, use the word "Allah" to mean "God".[SUP][4][/SUP] The Christian Arabs of today have no other word for "God" than "Allah".[/SUP]
Aye indeed, and I got your point from the OP. This is why I would suggest maybe going back to the root pronunciation/writing of "al-Ilah" (al- (The) El (God) -ah (Is)) to avoid confusion with the allah of the Koran. If I am not incorrect, I think this would be the original pronunciation/writing of the word in arabic which was then shortened later on to "al-lah", but I am not 100% sure on this. I am not a linguistics expert lol, so this is merely a suggestion that might be helpful for distinguishing between Islam and Christianity.

You are right though that the word is used in their tongue today in the Holy Bible just as Gott, El, Yahweh, or Dio might be used in other languages for english word God in the Holy Bible. Just trying to think of something that might help untangle the modern day confusion of the words. Interesting mention of Pentecost event in Acts and how many peoples of diverse races and nations were able to come to Jesus. As well as the goodly reminder that the Gospel must be spread throughout all the lands. May Jesus' love come to many peoples and nations.

Revelation 19:1, And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia, Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, unto the Lord our God: Revelation 19:4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshiped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. In these 2 verses i see the word Alleluia(Praise God), thats what i always thought it meant. Another thing i see is much people in heaven saying it not a few, i like the word much being in heaven better than only a few.

Heh funny enough islamic scholars have tried to contend that islam's allah is same God of the Bible because of word "Alleluia". The islamic scholars will say the root is "allah-luia" and contend this is somehow proof. Funny enough, this common mistake actually disproves their theory. Alleluia comes from the Hebrew Hallelujah, it is actually the suffix "-Jah" (or sometimes written "-Yah") that means "God" and "hallelu" or "allelu" meaning "to praise".

OP, I understand how the word "Allah" would be useful in witnessing to Arabs. My point, however, is that in our culture, here in the West, that word has become synonymous with Islam. There is no getting around that. And you can't go back. Not here, not in the good ol' USA.

Arab Christians and Arab Jews, and yes there is such a thing as an Arab Jew, would not go along with the so called popular usage. So, as I asked others, what would you have Arab Christians call God if all they spoke was Arabic?
The same thing happens among Anglo Christians and Mormons. Both use the word 'God' but each has different meanings in mind.
So the Arab christian may say 'Allah' but it would mean a totally different person than if an Arab muslim used the term.

Allah is from an Arabic moon goddess not Jehovah God. It is not the same and every Arab knows it full well. Mohammed co-opted the name when he wrote the Q'ran.

Remember in the end days that there will come strong delusion and men will believe the lies. This is but one that the enemy is putting in place so it will be received by those who want nothing to do with sound doctrine.

There is nothing in the character of Allah that would lead one to believe it is the same as Jehovah God. Jehovah God loves His creation while Allah is distant and capricious. I would love to ask an Arab if Allah loves him. I know that Jehovah loves me.

Do you believe a moon god exists, or is there but one God? If so, then we need to act like it. Again the letter kills, the Spirit makes alive.

I like to make posts that are thought provoking. Consider that the word Allah often carries with it a negative connotation of the false God of Islam but the word itself can be used to describe the true God of the Bible. The word Allah simply is the word for God in the Arabic language and it is the word Arab Christians and even Arab Jews, yes there is such a thing as an Arab Jew, would call God. An Arabic Bible would call God Allah in this language and it would not be describing the God of Islam and an Arabic Bible is just as legitimate of a Bible as any other Bible.

So Arab Christians and Arab Jews would have called God by the word Allah about 600 years before Muhammad was even born when the Muslim religion didn't even exist yet. On the day of Pentecost in Acts 2 there were Arabs among the devout Jews who heard the gospel in their own language, refer Acts 2:11 below, who were to become some of the first Christians and they would have called God by the word in their own language, Allah, and they would not have been referring to the false God of Islam.

Before anybody reacts to this post and points out that Allah is the moon God I am not saying that is who God is at all but, again, simply that the word Allah is the word for God in Arabic. It is the Muslims who have in effect taken over the word but it really isn't theirs to take, they don't own the word.

Acts 2:1-11
James Version (NKJV)

[SUP]1[/SUP] When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord[SUP][a][/SUP] in one place. [SUP]2 [/SUP]And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. [SUP]3 [/SUP]Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. [SUP]4 [/SUP]And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. [SUP]6 [/SUP]And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. [SUP]7 [/SUP]Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? [SUP]8 [/SUP]And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? [SUP]9 [/SUP]Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, [SUP]10 [/SUP]Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, [SUP]11 [/SUP]Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”
That's really an irrelevant point. The God that the Muslims claim to worship is the same God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that the Jews and Christians claim to worship. But nobody who claims to believe in God either knows God or is accepted by God. The only ones whom God accepts are those who believe in the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

26 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

I have offered what I have offered so you can know who you are wrapping your arms around when you embrace Allah. What I believe is not what the Arabs believe. The children of Ishmael claim a birthright that is not theirs.

Say what you want but you have a billion muslims bowing down in worship and being martyrs for something/someone who doesn't exist.
Or is it satan?

I am just mature enough to know there is but ONE God, no matter what another believes.

Christians say Muslims are of Satan. Muslims say that Christians are of Satan. Both come from God, but if satan casts out satan, how then can his kingdom stand? Please understand what that means, and God's desire for MERCY and not sacrifice.

Both can't be true since they teach contradictory statements. If Scripture is truth then Islam is lying and of the devil along with other false religions.
The koran does not come from God but their god.
Mercy, grace and truth from Jesus Christ.

If that is the case then why do you answer in such contradictory fashion? Just because the Arab wants to believe in a moon goddess does not mean that it is true. The thread inquires as to whether Allah and Jehovah are names for the same God. I merely pointed out that there will never be any truth to that supposition.

The part that is false is the adjective associated with both. Who made the Muslim man, God or some moon god? Take away both "Muslim" and "Christian" and what you will have left is two sons of God.

Again the letter kills. You should by definition feel the same way about "God". It's not a name. What is God in Chinese, or any other language?

it is the Spirit that defines it's meaning.

Ok, so God created ALL men.
God has saved only those who place their faith in the One True God Jesus Christ.
Point?
