is sabbath observation moral or ceremonial?
Sabbath, is merely a Day to set aside for God.
Context! He was speaking to those under the Law. Their only option to enter life was to keep the commandments; the avenue of faith in His blood was not available to them.

There is nothing whatsoever in Scripture that either calls the ten commandments "moral law", and nothing whatsoever that divides the Law into categories. As James explains, it's one Law with many ordinances. Break one ordinance, and you have broken the Law.
that's why Jesus said before He ascended: 20. "And instruct them to keep everything whatever I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you every day, even unto the end of time. Amen"*

i bet His Disciples heard this [especially Matthew] and bet they Obeyed, and they were Believers and CHOSEN hand-picked by God.

unlike, you and myself.
it's actually recorded what their reaction was.

they were greatly astonished and said "who then can be saved??!!" ((Matthew 19:25-26))

it made them think salvation was categorically impossible.

i understand, but this is as clear as day what Jesus said before He ascended:
20. "And instruct them to keep everything whatever I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you every day, even unto the end of time. Amen"*

this means, ALL the TEACHINGS of JESUS, we are to be KEEPING!

it's a Moral Law, not a physical Law.
we can observe that in our hearts and minds.
just so happens we're technically observing it on Sundays....remember when Church used to be ALL DAY Sunday?

i remember Sunday School, then Church Service afterwards, we break for food, and gather together on Sunday Evenings Late Church Service.

i miss those days...

amen

but does this mean we should all go catch a fish whenever it's time to pay our taxes?

or some things were not instructions for everyone or for all times?

ah then that isn't "sabbath" - and by "observing it on Sundays" it's ceremony, not morality.

they were already fishing and Jesus just assisted them in that.

they were already doing it, Jesus, just put His touch to it because what ultimately happened?
Peter, committed to Christ.

that's why it happened and no other reason.

we can observe that in our hearts and minds.
the commandment is to ceremonially act differently on a certain day.

the intent of the sabbaths He gave to the Jews was a sign to teach them that He is Who sanctifies them. ((Exodus 31:13, Ezekiel 20:12))

i would say that understanding and keeping this in our heart, is not constrained to any particular day. so it is the righteousness of the commandment we keep, not the letter.

righteousness is moral. performing a certain set of actions or refraining from certain actions on a certain day is ritualism; it's ceremonial.

The Church made that decision, now didn't they.

so ask the Church.
**refers again to justin martyr's "dialogue with trypho" **

spoiler alert:

he didn't call meeting on the first day of the week "sabbath keeping"
nothing about changing the days.
he says Christians don't keep sabbath.

yes, but i am a Follower of Christ, like the Disciples and Paul were.
and Paul, took advantage to TEACH on the Sabbath.
So, he began the Church Service on the Sabbath.
the Church later moved it to Sunday.

Acts 13:14-16
14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch of Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and sat down.
15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, You men and brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and you who fear God, give audience.
