1 John 2:18-27 New International Version (NIV)
Warnings Against Denying the Son
18 Dear children, this is the (last hour); and as you have heard that the (antichrist is coming),even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the (last hour). 19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.[a] 21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know itand because no lie comes from the truth.22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son.23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
24 As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginningremains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.
26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointingyou received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.
Yep

THEY WERE NEVER OF US.

The Lord didn't place any caveats on Him holding you in His Hand.

He didn't say that you had to do this or that in order for His Grip to be Firm.

Its not your ability to "stay" in Christ that causes your forgiveness or Salvation. You are weak. It is Christ who is Strong. It is Christ who forgives. It is Christ who Saves.

It is not based on the will and strength of the one who comes to Him. It is not even based on your own awareness of the facts, although that should bolster your faith.

Does the Lord save those with less knowledge? Does the Lord save those with more knowledge?

Yep. Isn't it interesting to think about?

The Lord saves dummies and sinners! Thankfully...
The Lord did place caveats. The first one is to believe, to have faith in Him, to believe He is the Son of God,
the way, the truth and the Life.

Next because we love Him we will obey Him.
Next we are to build our lives upon the rock, the foundation of His sacrifice, His example and follow.

Paul equally said we had to sow to the Spirit and not the flesh or the worldly passions.

What is miss understood by many is that this is a kind of exam. This is actually reality. If you believe, listen
and obey these things will happen, not if but actually.

The people I have come across who resist this seem to have hard hearts.
The whole reason it works is because we desire it, because our hearts are open, ready to walk, listen and
obey. The cross and brokenness brings us to this place. So those who truly are broken and lost often
understand it best, because they know they need to follow, to stay close, to be careful and be self controlled,
carrying their cross daily. But church goers who have loving families and a supportive environment, who
have never literally fallen into terrible sin and lostness, think just making do is ok. And it is ok, because they
are nice people doing nice things, and no one would say they are not believers even if they were.

And a true sign of a hard heart, is to reject love, reject what love is and how it works as if this is some hollywood
soap story. But love Jesus brought, bleeds, dies, hurts and costs. So it is the opposite of fluffy nice, it is painful
and costly.

But then sinners will always resist repentance.

Couple things Chester:

What about UNCONFESSED sin upon death?

I didn't see if you answered my question yesterday.

If YOU are in Christ and HE is in you, and since HE says He will NEVER leave nor forsake you, how could you eject Him from yourself, even if for a time, BEFORE HE DRAWS YOU BACK, you wandered away? He would still be in you, no?

Scripture says that there is no place we can go where God is not there. So how can we leave him? He leaves the flock to retrieve on lost sheep. Is God incapable of finding that lost sheep?

And of course, God knows us before we were even born, Did God forget we would not be a believer? And just save us on a whim because we CLAIMED we believed?

Please. Stop with the nonsense. True believers do not do this..

True believers are convicted and chastened by God. God will not allow it.
I wonder if you would take your own advice, it might help interacting with others.
Being certain and rebuking others does not make you right just a bully.

Did God give you the authority to rebuke another? Did God lay on your heart that a
believer was speaking with no sense? The truth is all believers full of the Holy Spirit
speak with sense from their hearts. It is their hearts that care and show the love they
have for their Lord, which is worthy of praise and encouragement, Amen.

Is saying a believer speaks with no sense the same as calling them a fool?
Doing such is inviting judgement from God as Jesus said,

22 But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.
Matt 5

God has laid this on my heart and is spoken from His word, Amen.

Those who listen to Jesus, listen to His word and are careful to obey and follow Him.

Yeah, I disagree with the "Heading" that the NIV places above that particular section of the passage, and here's why:

1 John 2:12 -

"I write unto you, little children [teknia; this Grk word is the more general word, applied to ALL of the 3 sub-categories of believers in this overall passage (Fathers, Young Men, Little Children)], because your sins are [/have been] forgiven you for his name's sake."

[note: this Grk word ('teknia') in v.12 is used again in the section starting in v.28, where the thought resumes following the parenthetical section involving a DIFFERENT Grk word in v.13c /18a, "paidia" - 'little children' (this, in contrast to the "fathers" and the "young men," here)--so the parenthetical section addressed to the "paidia - little children" is found in v.13c,18-27, and verse 27 says (of them) "ye abide ['present indicative active,' not 'imperative' here]"--These "little children/paidia" in particular are being warned of "seducers"/"antichrists" who "deny the Son" (and thus, so doing, the seducers/antichrists "have not the Father"... but of these "little children [paidia]," it said in v.13c "ye have known the Father" [unlike these deceivers, who deny the Son and thus have not the Father])--"[V.27] As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him [present indicative active]."]

Verse 28 then resumes with addressing the whole, with the word "teknia" the general term used which applies to ALL these 3 sub-categories of believers.

It is not readily apparent in the English versions, where this change in the Greek words used occurs, and thus who is being addressed in particular (and about what).

These people were NEVER Born again.
We are in complete agreement except for the above statement. Context reveals that these are born again believers:

Hebrews
10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of [our] faith without wavering; (for he [is] faithful that promised;)
10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some [is]; but exhorting [one another]: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

They were believers, but the context is not about losing one's salvation..... actually it never is anywhere.

2 Corinthians 13:5New International Version (NIV)
5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—(unless), of course, you fail the test?
This verse (notoriously misapplied) should be understood in its context. The context (at least 4 entire chpts, 10-13 [but really the entire "2Cor" epistle]) is Paul vindicating his apostleship.

The Corinthians were slighting Paul (thinking "less" of him) IN FAVOR of the more lofty-and-eloquent-sounding-dudes, being tempted to follow THEM and their teachings instead (though not "biblical," as we would say). So Paul is saying to THEM, "examine yourselves, whether ye be in THE faith..." [and Paul knows their inner response is, "YES, of COURSE we are! We ARE SAVED!"]... because IF YOU ARE [and he knows they are inwardly going to say "YES!"] then THAT is "PROOF of my apostleship: YOU ARE THE PROOF!" (IOW, don't just put me on trial [and bringing me "up short" as compared to the SUPER-DUDES (that you consider "superior") by contrast!]... examine the PROOF of my apostleship: YOU! the fact that YOU ARE in "the faith"! YOU ARE "the PROOF!" [1Cor9:1b also]).
Paul is not giving an all-time directive for all saints everywhere, to "see if they measure up" to something, somehow, in some way or other.

Salvation is NOT a prize to won. It is a gift to be received.

Paul understood what eternity meant. How important it is to lay up treasures in Heaven. And because of that revelation he was always painfully aware that he COULD lose REWARDS!

REWARDS are a prize for winning a race, or doing a good job. We don't know exactly what form those rewards will take. But Jesus says there will be a least IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. So there will also be a greatest (aside from Jesus) in the Kingdom, and everything in between.
I did not say it was. I only quoted scripture to add to what was already posted above mine. I added no words of my own. Argue much?
