Fair enough. Well wooden he have a wooden leg if he was going to Boston to look for it? "My wooden leg," he said.
Heresy and Sacrilege. What he was saying, OBVIOUSLY, is that he is shipping up to Boston "to find me a wooden leg". It was mistranslated in the 1700's. He is going to find a wooden leg to replace his real leg.

Jim, I hate to say it but this thread is going to end up looking like someone got into a butt kicking contest with a one legged man.

AAAAARGH! My stupid phone made a speech-to-text error. And when I tried to correct it the stupid phone just shut down. I rebooted, tried to edit the post and it shut down again!

I suspect the problem is overheating battery, but I'm going to google for answers. And maybe google for a different phone.

And I might possible have yelled "Oh blow it out your processor" at one point.

Since it now looks like my team is assembled (look out, Avengers!!!), after two pages of posts...

Jim, we are now ready to fight!!! :D

First, we take over CC. And then... THE WORLD!!!! Muhahahahaha! *Puts on her best Pinky and The Brain laugh.*

Right, so we're a team

I'm thinking... We'll have to take turns.

For now, at least.

Sorry guys... there's not quite enough room in the budget to buy wooden legs for ALL of us.

Not to sound like a politician, but... I just might have to up the membership dues. :(

Now, here is our texus receptus:

I'm a sailor peg
And I've lost my leg
Climbing up the top sails
I've lost my leg!
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping off to find my wooden leg

Question for debate. Did he have a wooden leg, and lost it climbing up the topsail? Or, as I like to think, did he lose his flesh-and-blood leg by getting it caught in a rope, therefore requiring him to get a wooden leg made in Boston?

Please discuss.
You are all so clearly wrong how do you not see it? It wasn't a person in this poem but a peg. A sailor peg to be precise which is what is used to reef the sails and thereby control the speed of the ship. A sailor peg that's lost it's wooden leg is one that has been snapped in two, usually in a storm. So the text is really talking about a storm damaged ship that is limping back to port for repairs. Boston is used allegorically here as representative of all ports since it was the largest and most well known port at the time this text was written. And the lesson it teaches us is that when the storms of life batter us we must return to Jesus, our safe harbor so he can restore us.

You all clearly don't know anything about textual analysis, either that or you're all heathens. :p

I will probably just stick with wondering if I ever chose myself. lol

Okay... Cinder pegged it. And because she provided verifiable facts in the midst of an emotion-laden meme war, I must side with her. Cinder for Prez.

Yer all wrong. All of ya. Cinder doesn't have a leg to stand on. Now, be prepared to be amazed.... as I illuded....aeliuded.... as I pointed out in my first post in my own cryptic stylin. Woody Guthrie wrote the song Shipping Off To Boston, which has become a famous St. Paddy's Day theme song along with other favorites like Sunday Bloody Sunday and Drunken Lullabye which makes me cry.

So you're all wrong and a bunch of heathens and here's my proof
