I think modern laundromat are quite nice places actually, they smell nice lol

many are now self serve with lots and lots of machines

I just think its way better than back in the day when you laundrymat was a team of women who spent all day washing clothes which is actually back breaking work

rubbing, scrubbing, wringing. hanging out to dry, ironing, folding

and back then they did not have sealed roads so whenever it rained there was mud, and when it was dry there was also dust, so clothes got much dirtier

Part of the reason why we earn money is to be able to spend it on fresh clothes so we dont always have to wear one outfit for a week and smell really bad by the end of it. I heard some people when they got rich just bought a new outfit every day, if the clothes got dirty, they just chucked it in the bin and bought a new one. lol

My clothes are quite a few years old. My wife says she is going to start tossing away the ones with holes in them. Now, we can afford new clothes, my wife gets new clothes online but I am happy with the clothes, however ratty they may be. I actually enjoyed my trips to the laundry mat before we got our new washer / dryer.

Its the weaving and sewing and knitting thats a big job
apart from laundry

just so we can be clothed...looking after the sheep, shearing the wool, carding it, spinning it into yarn, then knitting and crocheting it into garments

or...growing the cotton, picking it, putting it into the cotton gin, spinning into cotton, dying it, then sewing it

Or growing the mulberry trees, housing the silk worms, spinning the silk, creating the garments, trading them for other articles

I dont know about synthetics...thats a whole another industry. All I know is that the plastics used to make artifical threads break down in the laundry water go into the sea dn the fish swallow them and ands not good for the. cos they cannot digest them

you cant make good paper from artficial fibres as you can cotton, bamboo and other plants etc.

Jesus seemed to be against patching up old clothes, he said it would make them worse.

withholding sex lol

um ok if thats what you call it
why not just say, well this is the roster, we do it on these nights but not on these nights because if we do it on these nights it will be very messy and I have to do the laundry. Unless YOU want to clean the sheets.
He better use Oxi-Clean.

Hey Jerry. Hope you are well :)

I was just thinking, when reading your thread title, Laundrymat - I quite like the smell of laundry powder, maybe it’s just my weird senses… anywho, that’s my 5 cents for today! 😆

I quite like the smell of all laundry products. Me and Darlene are doing fine and settled into our new home in Tennessee. It is quite a change of pace from Florida, that's for sure. So nice to hear from you Mel and hope you are doing alright along with those that you love.

I was horrifed that mum stole my brothers sheets and decided to take them home to wash.

Well she claims she didnt steal them but said she was doing them for my brother who she says doesnt have a washing line. But hes got a washing machine AND a dryer I said. Plus does he KNOW you took his hamper?

she got all defensive and then said well I do YOUR washing and no thanks for it. No she doesnt! she doesnt do my sheets. Then I said well hes not going to thank you for it either.

it all turned into a huge argument in the way only mothers can make a huge deal about nothing.

I think mum should leave my brothers washing alone. I think she does it as an excuse so she can see them and check up on them.

You brother is well equipped to do his own washing. Apparently, he lacks motivation. Your mom is enabling him to neglect his responsibilities. Also, Mom seems to be in denial that you are adult enough to take care of yourself, especially in regard to laundry. My late mother was an enabler also, as she took care of my older brother is an alcoholic and unable to hold down a job. Now, my younger brother has allowed him to stay in the small apartment he built for Mom to take care of her. He does charge him a modest sum for rent though and has forced him to take care of himself.

During the 90s, I moved in with my parents for a time. I was not happy when my mother started doing my laundry. It took a bit of doing, but I finally got her to stop. She also wanted to cook for me. My dad said, "Let her do it, it makes her happy." He was right, so I relented.
When you look up the word mother in the dictionary, her picture is beside it.

Sounds like you had wonderful parents. When I was single, living on my own for years my mom would do my laundry during weekend visits to my parents' home. Cooked too. Nobody cooks like Mom.

Yeah, they were great! And mom always cooked something scrumptious! I miss them dearly.
Our Moms loved taking care of us. It made them happy! I'd show up at their place, Mom would see me, get so excited and have to go tell Dad that I was there. It seemed like they'd be there forever!

I think that would make my mom the happiest is when she was taking care of her family. I hold mothers in very high esteem. So does God. Lost my mom in 2019 and my dad in 2008. They were fantastic parents who loved their children and doing whatever it took to take care of them. My daughter is the same way with her children. God bless Mom everywhere. Dad too.

not sure why you call my mum an 'enabler' when its more like what she is doing is disabling him lol

Shes disabling him from doing his own washing.
My brother isnt drunk he just left the hamper on the floor as he usually does because he does his own washing and mum just took it.

it would be like, say my sister took my car for a drive and then I couldnt drive it cos SHE was driving it. And not because im drunk as I dont ever get drunk. its just cos SHE wants to drive it.

But is MY car lol
