IMO it's the third best Star Wars movie after the original and Empire. But it was very predictable. I wrote my predictions a month in advance and guessed correctly that [SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY]:

There would be a new Death Star, it would be inside an ice planet, that Luke was in isolation, Han and Chewie were looking for the MF, Rey refuses to use the lightsaber at first, Han and Leia's child was the main villain, Rey has the force - not Fynn, and C3P0 and R2D2 make an appearance but only C3P0 is functional.

But I was wrong predicting that the new death star wouldn't be destroyed (I thought it would be way too similar to the original).

Gave the movie an 8/10 with a 10 being "Interstellar."

but interstellar is terrible.

I hated Kylo Ren...he just sucks! For those of you begging for spoilers...I hate him because he killed his own father, Han Solo. He was also too thin and strange looking. He didn't have that tough Darth 'look.' LOL I thought he was about 15 years old...

Also, did you all feel he looked like a teenage Severus Snape? Which is weird...because I totally love Snape!

YES i couldn't remember his name so i've been calling him 'snape' all this time, because .. YES

and he was so weak?? i mean, a stormtrooper - who should have no skill whatsoever with a lightsaber - nearly whoops him. what is that?? and then rey too? who has no training at all? any sort of respect the movie tried to build up for him, it tore right back down. and this was supposed to be a guy who hunted down and offed lots of actual trained jedis?

Okay that right there, that broke canon. Everybody knows Chewie died at the start of the New Jedi Order series. Has nobody at Disney read the books?
disney came out and said a while back that they were not going to follow the books, or any other sanctioned star-wars-universe stories at all. they tossed all that right out. if they stick to some of it though - and they are, sort of, using some of the alt-stories as a starting point, i think -- then rey will be revealed later as snape's sister, that was taken and hidden from han and leia at birth, by someone who knew that the force would be strong in both children, and that it was dangerous for them to be known to everyone. this makes more sense to me than what people keep saying, that luke will be her father - but it is disney, and they will do whatever they want. i wouldn't be surprised if they decide to make her the miracle child of two flighty lesbians, honestly.

i'm pretty picky over movies - especially ones that i want to be good - i have a lot of beefs with this movie, plot holes & things that just didn't make sense. if i let loose i'll be a very big wet blanket. that doesn't mean i didn't like it though..
.. but i will say, i think a lot of the appeal was nostalgic - all those easter eggs & familiar characters appearing etc - that kept us from taking the movie at face value.
this was no 'empire strikes back' - but i'm not going to complain much, because i'm glad to see the series back, one way or another. there were epic scenes, great special effects, and as canned as some of it was, it was never as if i couldn't enjoy it.

when i saw it, the theater had a glitch with the projector, so we were treated to 15 minutes of black screen after the first preview rolled, before they got things fixed and restarted.

so i got to see "The Force Sleeps" before it "Awakened" hahaha

;)

Soooo we went from joyous Ewoks and happy ghosts like yoda and Anakin, where the whole universe is celebrating the FINAL defeat of evil, in The Return of the Jedi, and the dark side to 30 yrs later, and the ONLY explanation we get for this monstrous power that appears is a blurb in the opening script that basically says "a new power arose from the ahes of the empire". Maybe subsequent films will address that, but I had a hard time getting past this massive black hole in the story line.

I see what you're saying in part. If you were expecting Darth Vader Mach 2 or Darth Maul Mach 2 I can see why you'd be disappointed. But we don't know much about this Kylo Ren. We know he's not a confident and highly-skilled Sith Lord or anything. He's a severely unbalanced young adult who idolises Darth Vader (his grandpa) to the point of godhood. He has Force powers, but for the most part, he seems to be in his Dark Side infancy (that or he hasn't encountered another Jedi for so long that he's out of practice and can no longer control himself (which makes him a Force time-bomb of unpredictability). And that's what we see. If he wiped out actual trained Jedi its more because of his devotion to the Dark Side and the resources Snoke gave him, not anything of his own.

I find Kylo Ren to be creepy in the sense that he's so normal in his conflicted emotions/thoughts/behaviours and so strange-looking, but so human. That's what helped me appreciate his character more. But it was only in retrospect (well, as the movie continued to unfold and reveal more) that I saw that and no longer desired another Darth Vader or Darth Maul etc.

“There has been an awakening; have you felt it? The Dark Side ... and the Light.” So began the first official teaser-trailer for this week’s mega-blockbuster release of "Star Wars." But did you know this science-fiction fantasy hints at a real cosmic battle in our universe?

In past films of the Star Wars franchise, which debuted with 1977’s episode “A New Hope,” there has always been a mysterious, unseen cosmic power called the “Force,” a power that has both a dark side and a light side. This war between good and evil is just one reason why the series is so popular around the world.

Indeed, box office projections predict it will gross $540 million for its opening worldwide, likely beating current champ Jurassic World’s $524.1 million record. One film critic said "The Force Awakens" would earn $1 billion without blinking and could even surpass $3 billion.

Perhaps such popularity affirms a truth that resides in the deeper conscience of every human being—there truly is a controversy in the universe between light and darkness, between good and evil. Of course, Christians know there are good and evil forces around us, but how do we separate reality from fiction? Nothing unveils the dark forces of Satan, the enemy of God, more clearly than the revelation of truth in Jesus Christ, who is called “the true light” (John 1:9).

Instead of spending $12 to watch fiction, why not learn about the real beginnings of the battle between these two empires? Anyone can see that the forces of evil in our world are alive and active. There are only two sides in this battle. Which side will you choose?

Take a spectacular journey back through time and trace the transformation of a perfect angel into Satan, the arch demon—and how he led an army of angels in a revolt in heaven! This Bible-based documentary will help you understand how sin and evil could invade a perfect world made by a loving God.

Jesus-Juked. I prefer to use popular culture to point to the truth that is Jesus. Of course some media is out of bounds, but if you don't become a Jedi, Star Wars is a-okay.

You have to admit it is applicable. There is no gray Jedi, only light and the dark. Star Wars is heavily based on Western Christianity concepts, not on Middle Eastern yin and yang duality.

Middle Eastern refers to the countries on the western end of Asia. Yin and yang duality is Chinese. Hence, it is Eastern, or popularly referred to as Asian. :p

I haven't heard G.L. affirm this. Have you?

In any case, I found this slightly interesting:

George Lucas' creation of the Star Wars saga was influenced by certain elements of mythology, philosophy and religion. In particular, the conflict between "light" and "dark" sides of the Force resembles Zoroastrianism, while their close connection recalls the yin and yang of Taoism:

Lucas's dualism may have been modeled on Chinese yin-yang notions in some ways, but it has equal inspiration from the Zoroastrian ethical dualism of good and evil. Both the dark (yin) and the light (yang) are present in the Force (as they are in Tao), but in Star Wars the dark is associated with evil and the light with good; in Taoism no such ethical links are made.

There is therefore an inconsistency in Lucas's ideas between the duality of yin/yang, where the two should be in balance with each other, and the duality of good/evil, where evil is viewed as wrong. There is nevertheless a strong ethical element to Star Wars, which has been linked to that of Hinduism, Buddhism and Stoicism:

To recap, the virtues the Jedi shares with the Stoic sage are patience, timeliness, deep commitment, seriousness (as opposed to frivolity), calmness (as opposed to anger or euphoria), peacefulness (as opposed to aggression), caution (as opposed to recklessness), benevolence (as opposed to hatred), joy (as opposed to sullenness), passivity (as opposed to agitation), and wisdom. Given all these virtues, Yoda certainly resembles what the ancient Stoics described as the sage—the ideal person who has perfected his reason and achieved complete wisdom.

The name Yoda itself represents a play on the word Yoga, the ancient Hindu spiritual practice.

The concept of evil in Star Wars also resembles that of Manichaeism, which posits that good and evil are both real entities. However, since Christianity views evil as the absence of good, the concept of evil in Star Wars conflicts with that of Christianity.

My problem with Christians making blanket statements like this is that if you're going to crucify one aspect of pop culture, then that means you have to eradicate everything all these things in your own life as well, because otherwise the Christian stating this is giving an example of hypocrisy.

For instance, sure, Christians can slam Star Wars--if you feel that strongly about it, don't go see it. But yet, entire churches will go out in flocks and droves to see The Chronicles of Narnia, which begins with a story called The Lion, The WITCH, and the Wardrobe. CERTAINLY NO MAGIC or fantasy in that series!! *cough, cough, cough* And yet Christians parade it around as a champion of evangelical teaching while condemning the entertainment choices of everyone else.

I'm not saying anything against Remember personally, but I will say to any Christian who makes these statements--I'm curious about what you choose to entertain yourself with in your own life, because I'll be expecting consistency. Are you into superheros, comics, cartoons featuring any element out of the natural realm (like talking animals), Disney movies, etc.? If so, then why are you condemning someone else's choices if you haven't eliminated these things from your own life?

Is your granddaughter into Frozen? Did she beg for an Elsa doll for Christmas? Does your husband like Superman or Batman? If so, I'd be interested in hearing the story of how you set your own life and family "straight" before preaching to anyone else.

Thank u for this reply.

Nope I am not into the things which you have stated. What my relatives did or do was and is of their choosing. What I have posted here is to hopefully draw people away from the entertainment of Satan and to the real war that has a bearing on man's souls. Jesus is coming soon, do u think we have time to drag our feet? Look around you and look at the signs of the times. There is a storm gathering and God says it will be like no man has ever known since the world has existed. Is Satan dragging his feet? To each its own, but didn't Jesus say tell them? He loves us and not willing that any should perish. Do u want to stand in the way of people's salvation? If people chose to be spiritually awaken...then praise the Lord! There will be many who will frown on those who share. Do u think this was meant to offend, or get people's attention? Jesus calls us all to be a witness, to do our part. Not everyone is going to like what I share, just like not everyone is going to chose to saved. Freedom is what God has given to all. If you are offended, talk to the Master.
