My first thought when Kylo Ren took off his mask, was that Justin Trudeau had been co-opted to play the part. For those not from Canada, JT is our new prime minister (and the son of a previous PM). There is a vague resemblance. At least JT has demonstrated far more wisdom so far than Kylo Ren (also the son of a leader, as it happens).

Otherwise, I was not overly impressed (though I think I have become a bit jaded about movies lately; I wasn't much impressed by Spectre either). I kept thinking, okay, the climax of the movie is going to be awesome! Well, the destruction of the death star did seem a bit predictable... and hokey. Seriously people, you'd think that the Empire/First Order would NOT be so stupid as to design a planet-sized death machine with a majorly-destructive weakness which can be discerned (and exploited) in a few minutes...again!

I think the big story has lots of room to develop still, but at some point, we're going to need a death-of-Smaug moment. We thought it happened at the end of episode VI. We were deceived by the dark side. Or was it the Disney side?

***Okay so there will be major spoilers on here. If you have not seen the movie, I suggest you leave this thread. I wouldn't want to ruin it for you. You have been warned.***

Okay so to anyone who saw it...what did you think? Did you enjoy it? Was it what you were expecting and how does it compare to the rest?

Personally, I loved it! I thought it was great and I really grew to like the new characters, especially Rey and Poe. I can't say I liked Finn very much...
 he kinda reminded me of those stupid Disney Channel shows they have now like "Shake it Up" and "Dog with a Blog"....lame and cheesy!

I was also very upset with who they killed. That was awful and I hope Kylo Ren gets what he deserves. I hate him already!

Who do you think is Snoke is? Is that Darth Plagueis?
What about Rey? Is she Luke's daughter? Ugh so many questions were left unanswered...:(

But overall it was great! Everything fit well with the story line and it wasn't boring in any parts.

I hope you all enjoyed it as well.
I've never seen one episode of Star Wars...

Watched it the other day, the duel between Revan and Rey was not that exciting as the duel of the previous Jedai(s) before them. If you watched it in 3d version, graphics is pretty cool. I'd give it a generous 8/10.

Please watch all the series or atleast the comics before watching it...really helps if you do this. Haha God bless guys

I loved the movie but it did leave questions still unanswered, and even others asking what about this.........

Example Princess Leia is portrayed now as General Leia, an older version which seems to have as of now no Jedi abilities. That however is not the case in the Star Wars universe in the books.

Also they mention who Kylo Ren really is but Han and Leia had twins as well in the books !!!

They do kind of portray Rey in the light of being a Skywalker, especially the basement seen when she finds Luke's lightsaber. Yet at the same time they still give her a Solo vibe as well.....

Could she be a Skywalker or could she be the twin sister kept hidden again as Luke and Leia were ????

What's wrong with Return of the Jedi? You meet the Ewoks, Luke comes into his own as a wielder of the Force, Luke gets his first taste of the Dark Side (no it wasn't with the Emperor - it was when he took down Jabba. Even Yoda commented on the way he let his emotions have too free a reign when he struck the hutt down.)

Only thing wrong with Return of the Jedi was the Ewoks chose C3P0 as their god. When Chewbacca was STANDING RIGHT THERE! How could they have overlooked someone so much like them and gone with the metal snob?
Wait a minute, am I even thinking of the right movie? If I remember correctly (and I admit it's been years since I've seen the originals...), Luke didn't kill Jabba--Leia did, when she threw her chain around his neck and gave him a massive heave-ho. So, I'm confused... because Luke didn't strike Jabba down... right?!

And, since we're talking about all this :), I have another detail I'd like to ask the superfans out there about: among my many, many issues, is continuity. I hate when movie makers ignore obvious details that should somehow fit together.

A major thing that irked me in the sequels is that they portray Luke and Leia's mother as dying soon after having them. BUT IN RETURN OF THE JEDI, Luke asks Leia if she remembers her real mother, and Leia says, Just a little bit, she died when I was very young... and that her mother was kind but sad.

How were they able to explain this? I've always been curious but was so disgusted by the prequels I never bothered looking anything up to try to find out.

seoulsearch: Yeah, you're right. Leia actually killed the slug. Luke did all the heavy lifting though.

And I don't remember the movie, but in the book Yoda did take Luke to task for enjoying that fight too much.

I loved it. I am not a super fan of the originals and I kinda saw the prequels in passing (I didn't hate jarJar by the by), but this one was great. it had that awesome Abrahms sensibility without all the lens flairs from Star Trek.

My favorite character was Finn, Mr. I Don't Want to Die Today. And I loved how they gave him a saber despite not being "the chosen one" like Rey seems to be.

My second favorite was acutally Kylo Ren. Not because of his personality, mr emo whiny baby, but because his character was so well develouped. He is a masicist, he is torn, and he is real. I like that, not him

I'm not sure who Revan is, I assume you mean Kylo Ren? I liked the fight. It was minimalistic, but more of a fight than a dance (which is what you got in the prequels). The lightsaber fights seemed to have been reinvigorated (more lethal or something). Yes, the fight was rather simple, but let's not forget this is the first movie of a new trilogy and that Rey is just getting started and Kylo Ren can't think straight for all his conflicted hatred. I think you gave the movie a generous rating though. I'm not sure what I'd give it. I'd have to see it again.

Ohh oops my mistake there, yep was referring to kylo ren and rey's battle towards the end of the movie. Was kinda confused because, kylo rens mask is so similiar to that of Darth Raven who in the comics crowned himself Lord of the siths but then again this is just a theory...he could or could not be the future Darth Raven. Yep pretty generous on the score haha because the graphics was pretty cool in 3d. ☺

... and this is in 'Singles' why?

Oh wait... nevermind. ;)
This is in Singles because we don't have to ask a spouse's permission if we want to watch a movie and then talk about it. :p

Snoke is Andy Serkis. DUN DUN DUN :p

The movie felt too much like a Disney movie - I think part of it was Finn's overacting (just about everyone overacted to some extent). A lot of the first 30 - 60 mins felt like one big chase scene, too. I was probably most disappointed with how unoriginal it was, though; it mirrored episode IV far too much.

Kylo Ren was interesting─ until he got his butt whooped. I'm really hoping the plot is developed better in the next movie. The Force Awakens exhibited traits more along the lines of a "reboot" than a sequel and continuation of the saga.

But even with all that said, I had fun watching it. The visuals were great, the musical score (thank you John Williams) was awesome, and all of the little Easter eggs were fun! The Empire Strikes Back remains my favorite.
This was pretty much my thoughts also. The plot was incredibly boring... Another death star, really... is that the best they can do? There's plenty of terrorism around at the moment, why not play off that or something, anything really. Also not much of the politics was explained - I really like that aspect of things.

Ren was also seriously unscary, getting challenged by Finn (who I suspect is force sensitive) an untrained Rey (although at least that made more sense given her close combat skills shown at the start of the film. Sure have him weakish, but at least have him able to kick these weaklings and have them just escape or something.

At least they killed Han off...
