What are people's thoughts on the whole "willing" or reinforcing of things through thought? E.g., if you think you'll have a good (or bad) day, you will.

Can you will things like that? Or is that just some mystical nonsense?
This question deserves its own thread. :)

I think that if I have a bad day, I can still will my thoughts into positive thoughts. Doesn't mean my bad day will turn good, but my experience during that bad day will not be as awful because my thoughts remained positive.

During my darkest seasons were one of my best seasons, because my focus was positive when everything around me was crumbling. It's really what you do with it.

I think others believes, though, which I don't agree with is that if they think good thoughts, their events will change. But your thoughts are just that: Thoughts. You can make a choice to remain positive in the dark times, even when the circumstances don't change as much.
What Shiney said. It's not like Peter Pan, where you think happy thoughts and fly! :)

I think one way to look at it is that thoughts change your perspective. It doesn't change your circumstance, but it does change how you deal with them.

It's the same thing as, say, a breakup. You can easily will yourself to wallow in pain and self-pity. Even when you're way past the post-breakup depression stage. You can still choose, if you want to, if you will yourself to, remember the past and have a pity party. Needless to say this leads to bad days, missed opportunities and many other things (depression which then ultimately leads to sleepless nights, which then leads to poor health, getting sick, you get the idea). And it all started with your 'willingness' to remember the past.

Now, in contrast, same example. You can (though, not easily) will yourself to get distracted so you don't find yourself wallowing in pain and self-pity. You can choose, if you want to, if you will yourself to, find something that will get your attention and take your mind off of the past. This lets you get things done. And when you get things done, there's a sense of accomplishment that comes with it, which can lead to many other things like opportunities to do more! You get the idea. But it all started with your 'unwillingness' to remember the past.

This applies to any and all circumstances. There is no circumstance that limits our will.

Another side to consider, our thoughts affect our chemical balance :) This backs up the idea that thoughts can lead you to be happy :). It's the same as saying, happiness is a choice. I mean there are scientific facts that show you how smiling can affect your muscles :D

Ugh, Andrew Wommack explains this so much better and clearer than I lol. If you want, there are a few teaching resources about this. You'll be amazed at how much pain you can save yourself from, by simply starting with thoughts :)

I think that would only be reasonable if we had control over what happens around us, which we don't. Even if we had a determined mindset of having a great day, there are too many inconstants and too many things that can change emotions throughout the day. So to me, it's nothing but hokum lol.

Consider William Tyndale and his execution. It's only reasonable to expect him to be sad or afraid (or whatever it feels like when you're about to be executed). But as he was being strangled to death, his last words were for the king's eyes to be opened (If I'm not mistaken, it was King Henry, I may be wrong.

He said "Lord! Open the King of England's eyes."

Now if he didn't have control over his thoughts and emotions, how else was he able to go against them?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Tyndale#Betrayal_and_death

His works include translating the bible to English.

I agree; your perspective affects you, not the universe. That's awesome that you were able to hold yourself together during your greatest tribulations. *high five*

:D I considered it, but with my whole struggle lately, I thought it might come across as a challenge. Didn't want to wax too much philosophical (at least not this early on a Monday morning :p).

It's just another day in BDF... ;) no challenge is too great for active BDFers. But input might be overwhelming. There's that. lol.

Right?? It does seem kind of silly - even narcissistic - to assume that our thoughts will rebound off of some metaphysical, cosmic force that acquiesces to our whims. Take the variables as they come and learn and grow from them.

You are correct; it was Henry VIII. Two years later, Henry commissioned the Great Bible, which included much of Tyndale's work.

Oh yeah there's that too. Stupid King. Urgh. Tyndale didn't have to die. Oh well. He's in heaven anyway. And we've got our bibles, so all is well :)

Lol, thanks...?

Anyways, it's total rubbish when people think that you have "control" over circumstances just by thinking certain thoughts, and then, bam, circumstances change simply because you thought of them into being. That's just not the way it works.

Dear Khatru,

You are always in my prayers :)

Please forgive me though

I am not the wisest....far as the 'best' you will hear lol
Again I am sorry for that...but

You know I love a rhyme :)

Once I wrote this when I didn't feel strong
I remember it every morning

God help me today
No matter what comes my way
I will love and be strong
No matter what comes along
Remembering thankfulness
For I've one more moment...blessed
Just to breathe...for there will be
Someone who needs that smile from me

Please remember that dear friend

God bless you Khatru
My constant prayers for you

so, in our consult room, we have a skeleton. sometimes, the doctor uses it to show areas of the spine, etc etc.

whenever we get a new patient, i check the consult room and prepare the intro video the new patient will watch while the doctor looks over their file in his office.

this morning, there was a young boy in the office, and on his way out, he was laughing up a storm. i didn't know why, but i just ignored it.

just now, i checked the consult room to prepare it for the next new patient. mr. skeleton had a sign on him. it said, "i need to go pee."

I was telling my boss how, for the first time in my life, I'm afraid to go to the dentist, because I have two teeth that are hurting really bad.

boss: "You wouldn't get cavities if you didn't eat those stupid chocolate-covered raisins at work all the time."
me: "But I'm a stress eater! And when I get stressed I just want something fast that tastes good!"
boss: "What could possibly be stressful in your day?"

Five minutes later.

boss: "I want you to fix that display! And make it look good!"
me: "You mean the one over here?"
boss: "NO! The one across from you... See? NO! You're doing it all wrong! That looks terrible! Here, I'll just fix it myself!!!"

me: "AND YOU WONDER WHAT'S STRESSFUL ABOUT MY DAY."

My boss is giving me cavities.
Too bad I just can't hand him the bill (I think he owes me!)
