I'm probably going to get told I'm a cursed freak for what I just told someone in a thread Re: Harry Potter in Miscellaneous. I told the girl to keep her Harry Potter stuff. Seriously, why do some Christians take that stuff so out of context and so seriously? It really drives me nuts.
I was just reading that thread. I was mostly skimming, but she appears to have some serious issues to work through. I love Harry Potter though. Anyone who throws out HP is going to need to throw out LofR and Narnia too.

When I first joined CC, I checked out the forums and then checked out of the forums haha. There were so many really odd, crazy, religious people and I just knew I wasn't going to get along well there. I don't think I ever checked out this subforum, though, but I'm really glad I eventually did even if it was a couple years later.

We should have a 'things we have been called on CC' thread. I was once told that I was an 'apostate against the Church'. Well then.
Meh, I've been called things in chat that I can't repeat here. If I did I'd have to ban myself. :p:p

I'm awfully tired of all the threads that pop up instructing women how to behave. It's...disheartening.

Do women sometimes need correction from peers? Yes.
Do we need complete strangers giving us "lessons" on how to treat men, how to dress, how to behave?

*sigh*

But MissCris, don't you realize that we're dumb and completely unable to read?! Or pay attention, or even hear the voice of the Holy Spirit... because we're... WOMEN.

And!

Those men are just instructing us because we're the scourge of the earth. They have every right to because they have diminution. They're our pastors, husbands, brothers, and fathers. Aren't they?

And they have every right to call us names, abuse us, boss us around, and violate the scriptures... right?

In this past week I've been told by "men of God" that I'm stupid, worthless, not a Christian, unwomanly (whatever that means), that I have no right to express an opinion, I have no right to correct a man because I'm a woman, that I'm wrong because I dared to use science (apparently science isn't Christian), and that I couldn't possibly understand the word of God because I'm female.

I'm very tired of men who obviously don't know the scripture they claim to understand.

And thank you once again gypsygirl for coming to my aid. I very much appreciate it.

I've found that the people who attack me and try to put me down with scathing comments and remarks really have no care or concern at all for my soul. Their biggest concerns are with being right and being superior. Sometimes I forget that, but as soon as I'm reminded that this person that is insulting me clearly has no concern for me or my spiritual growth, they've automatically lost the respect from me that would be required to actually listen to them. I just ignore them.

DuchessAimee, I know that you know that all of those things that those guys have said are wrong, and let me be one to say that I believe wholeheartedly that none of those things about you are true. To the contrary of what they said, you are intelligent, godly, and full of worth and valuable opinions.
It's obvious that the men who said those things to you do not have any care or concern for your soul or for your growth in your relationship with God. Just don't let them get to you. The more that you give them air time both on the forums and even in your mind by rehashing the things they have said, the more you're letting them have sway over the forum and you that they don't at all deserve. (This is also why I'm not sure I'm a huge fan of having a thread here dedicated to memorializing all of the horrible things people have said to us.) They're just not worth the time and effort it takes to respond to them, nor even the second thoughts.

To put in simply, we just have to ignore the morons, and I think it'll result in less unnecessary conflict and more fun in the community we have here. It's definitely easier said than done and I don't always do it perfectly, but it's something I've tried to do more and more over the past couple of years as I've interacted with strangers online.

i guess it all depends upon how you feel about those remarks. to me, they have no power to wound me simply because they're untrue -- just because someone said them doesn't make them right. i find it amusing, and in some ways, my hope is that the unburdening of such things might actually be cathartic for someone who is nurturing offense or hurt feelings by:

1) getting it off your chest
2) seeing that we all have taken a turn as a target of ill-spoken, unkindly, and clueless people

besides, you haven't been here long enough to be called anything interesting yet, right??? ; p

i guess that depends on how much time you spent in the bible argument forum... : D

We try to keep it some what light-hearted, and foster a Christ-centred community of those that come here for the same purpose- to aid and just laugh with each other during the time of singleness.

That is a good point. It's great when you can just peg a comment as untrue and brush it off that way. I think sometimes I personally just need another reason to ignore a person because sometimes I draw little bits of what I think are truth out of those insulting statements. But that's just a personal self-esteem issue really.

And I would just rather not waste my time in the Bible argument forum haha (I love your name for that by the way). Just...no ; )

I have frequented another forum for quite some time, but I've managed to avoid the morons for the most point. Been called a "white knight" by one immature cynic and I'm sure there are other things but I can't remember anything else right now, and I can say I'm thankful for that haha. They're not worth remembering.

Yeah, and I've largely found that to be the case :)

Where is it that you're moving, Rachel? I think I probably jumped in here after you talked about that.
Actually, I'm not sure if I ever did say here on the forums what state I was moving to. I'm moving from northern Illinois to Missouri. :)

Do you think it's Tintin? I mean, Tintin is Belgian. Or maybe it's just a random Belgian.

well, for what it's worth, i've had to work pretty diligently to develop that thicker skin when it comes to insults.

i'm naturally a pretty sensitive person, but being exposed to certain people has provided the necessity and practice of learning how to filter the truth from the self-serving baloney. and i'm grateful for that. sometimes i will get my nose a little out of joint, and i will need to ask someone to help me ascertain whether there's reality in it or not.

and if we have a pretty accurate self-perception, and a trusted friend or two, we can consciously reject it.

not to long ago, i posted my "teflon hoodie" exercise, which i still need to use from time to time, to be around certain people. as goofy as it sounds, that has spared me a lot of grief. : )

i am a pretty sensitive person too. Being called a c*** actually hit deeper than being called an apostate against the church. I tried to shrug that one off, took awhile. It kinda made me tear up for a second

I haven't remembered what anyone's spoke on at both of my churches in months. All I know is we went through the entire book of Ephesians at my home church, then at the other one we've been going through Galatians and we've been talking about freedom in Christ and not being bound by the law.

Also, it rained a lot today here, too.

Here's my version of your post, Shour...

- Most sermons annoy me
- No rain, no pain
- I need new tires :(
- When I spend under $5 on a dozen frozen chicken patties I should know what to expect...pulverized chicken(?) meat
- I got to find a way to stay awake
- Why do they call it the world's cup if the world can't drink from it?! :p
- Nostalgia is my default mood
- My fondness of redheads started with pippi longstocking
- ???
- I bought the Roku streaming stick because Chromecast doesn't come with a remote :p
- My mess is probably worse than I think it is.
