I don't think there is any shame in crying. In fact the shortest verse in the Bible is 'Jesus wept' (John 11:35)

Amen, Jeff. I didn't vote in the poll above, because many of those answers apply. I know some pretty tough guys who have admitted to crying at some Disney movies, and The Patriot. I think, out of the scenarios above, the only one I would consider a guy a "nancy boy" would be crying if they got a paper cut or cut themselves shaving. Sheesh, I don't even cry at something like that. Minor pain might make you gasp, but it shouldn't make you cry.

But, overall, crying is an acceptable emotional response. It is God-given, and we shouldn't be ashamed of it. No one should cry at the drop of a hat, but honestly I appreciate when men don't have a problem letting their emotions show. It's human nature. :)

To be honest I don't think I can cry anymore. I haven't cried in 8 years or so.. didn't cry when any of my grandparents died, or when my dog died, or when I broke my leg at a soccer game. can't do it. I even tried thinking of all the memories I have of my grandparents at their funerals, but nothing happened. freaks me out a bit. :p My roommate on the other hand, can cry if he watches kids singing. funny how different people are.

Awesome post.

I don't have problems with anyone crying, male or female, as long as it just isn't to manipulate other people's feelings for their own benefit.

I was once told by a man That was in my opinion one of the greatest men to ever be in my life , That " A man should never be ashamed to cry over someone or something he loves " This man was a Second Lieutenant in world war two and a decorated officer that lived a very good life and was a very hardend individual but dedicated family man . This world will make us calloused and unfeeling to some extent if we are not aware of it . However the fact that we ask ourselves " when " is it okay answers the question itself . ther is no specific time in my opinion yet we have to understand that although men are supposed to be strong they are also best when they are realistic and reasonably emotionaly in touch with human relations.

Or he's been beaten up by life so much he just isn't affected by things much anymore. That's kind of the way I am. Though I have my moments of blissfull wateryeyedness.

Well, my eyes watered over when I watched When the Wind Blows the other day.

Can't remember the last time a film did that to me.

And to cap it all off, I've now got David Bowie stuck in my head, and I'm worrying about the removal of the national siren system in the early '90s.

My dad cries my husband doesnt. neither is correct neither is wrong. My father in law died and my husband sat and looked at the wall for hours while I cried... blessed release crying is. His dad taught him men dont cry. I think God blessed us with tears & the release of tears. I love it when my dad laughs till he cries... thats my favorite laughing till we cry.

It always looks awkward when a man cries; but, there are times and situations where it is not only warranted; but, it is necessary.

I have had my moments when that is like the breaking point. I work with metal and I cut my self alot but I don't cry cause I'm a man!
But when stress and other things come upon me and I need to give my burdens to the Lord sometimes I cannot keep the tears away.

narn I will pray for you. I just pray the Lord would wrap his loving arms around you and you would just know how important and how valued and special you are to him. Please seek someone to council you on the cutting ok cause I know nothing about these things but self mutilation is not good. Your precious body is home to the Holy Spirit... please try to do what you can to discontinue this. Bless your heart.

OKay we need to get out of the idea that a man should not cry. Emotions are good for both man and women. Yes, women tend to cry more because of pms and all that jazz, but its okay for guys to cry. If he's feeling sad, let him cry and don't make a big deal. :)

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. James 4:9
