There is a real hell, the "Christians" in the progressive church like Rob Bell are spreading false doctrine about a loving God not making a hell...it's false....God sends people who reject Christ to hell plain and simple, good works can't save you only Jesus can...that is the true Gospel....not the loveydovey Christian psychobable peddled by guys like Rob Bell.....

The OT talks about the coming day of Judgment, of God's wrath and even His eternal wrath-

The Lord is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath
Psalm 110:5

And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Daniel 12:2

Christ talked about hell often in the NT, He called it a place of eternal torment, a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth, and a lake of fire.

The bible refers to God's wrath often as eternal, and not a quick death where you no longer exist. There are some people who dont like the idea of hell. There are those who dont like the possibility of God and want to disprove Him, and there are people who have a hard time believing that a loving God could send the unrepentant to hell. But the bible makes it clear, God is coming with a wrath, and it is eternal.

There is definitely a hell, but our interpretation of hell doesn't always match the bible verse.

If we forget the english for a moment, we are left with three words:

Sheol
Gehenna
Hades

The problem is, we translate it a bit funnily

(Now someone correct me if I am wrong here.):

According to a site called Faith Defenders, The KJV translates Sheol as “hell” 31 times, “grave” 31 times, and “pit” three times.

While the Old Testament consistently refers to the body as going to the grave, it always refers to the soul or spirit of man as going to Sheol.

In the Septuagint, Hades is found 71 times. It is the Greek equivalent for Sheol 64 times.

In Job 33:22, Hades is the translation of the Hebrew word memeteim, or “destroying angels [KJV]Öthe angels who are commissioned by God to slay the man.”19 In this sense it refers to disincarnate spirit creatures.

It is also used in Job 38:17 as the translation for the Hebrew, “the realm of ghosts or shades” (KJV).20

It is used for “the shades of the underworld” in Prov. 2:18.21 This refers to the spirits of the departed in Sheol who are viewed as “the dwellers in the Kingdom of the dead as in Homer and Virgil and like the Latin word Inferi, it stands for the realm of disembodied souls.”22

The third and last crucial term is the word Gehenna. This word is found twelve times in the New Testament and is correctly translated each time by the KJV as “hell.” It is a word which describes the ultimate fate of the wicked after the general resurrection and judgment.

While Sheol and Hades describe the temporary abode of the dead until the resurrection, Gehenna is the place of future punishment in the eternal state.

Yes there is a Hell, Jesus spoke of it many times.

Matthew 25:41 - "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

Sheol/Hades

For anyone who is interested, below are the results of a study that I did some time ago on Sheol/Hades. Neither word of which should ever be translated as grave, tomb or sepulcher. The Hebrew "Qeber" and Greek "mnémeion" are used to refer to tomb, grave or sepulcher. When the words Sheol/Hades a present, they make a distinction between where the body goes at the time of death vs. where the spirit/soul goes at the time of death.

=================================================

Characteristics of:
· Is down under the earth - Gen.37:35, 42:38, 44:29, 44::31, Num.16:30, 16:33, Deut.32:22, 1 Sam.2:6, 2 kings 2:6, Job 11:7-8, 17:16, Ps.30:3, 86:13, Prov.9:18, 15:24, Isa.5:14, 14:9, 14:11, 14:15, Isa.38:18, Ezk.31:15-17, Ezk.32:21, Ezk.32:27, Mt.11:23, Lk.10:15,

· Has multiple levels - Deut.32:22, Job 11:7-8,

· Referred to as the pit - Job 17:13, Ps.30:3, Prov.1:12, Isa.14:15, Isa.38:18, Ezk.31:15-17

· Has Chambers - Prov.7:27

· Has Gates/Bars - Job 17:16, Isa.38:10, Mt.16:18

· A place of torment in fire – Lk.16:23-24

· Is a literal entity representing the same location – Rev.6:8, 20:14

Sheol (sheh-ole') The underworld (place to which the spirits of people descend at death)
Hades or the world of the dead (as if a subterranean retreat), including its accessories and inmates -- grave, hell, pit.

Hades (hah'-dace) The unseen world:
hádēs (from 1 /A "not" and idein/eidō, "see") – properly, the "unseen place," referring to the (invisible) realm in which the unrighteous dead reside, i.e. the present dwelling place of all the departed (deceased); Hades.

As of right now, there is no Hell. Hell will be created at the time of the Great White Throne Judgment. It is only then that satan, demons, and all those who obey satan will be cast into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone (Hell) where they will stay for ever and ever. But right now nobody is in Hell, Judgement Day is what determines who is not going to Heaven.

I always believed that life is just a test.

Those that pass are allowed into God's Kingdom those that fail go to hell.

I guess that I'm what people call a "hellfire and brimstone" Christian because I don't believe in what most Christians believe about forgiveness.

The prevalent belief seems to be that EVERYONE gets to repent then go to Heaven no matter how they live or what they do.some sects even send people to death row to hear confessions so even if you rape and kill hundreds of children you still get in as long as you admit and apologize afterwards which just doesn't make sense to me.

One problem to keep in mind is that Gehenna is a very beautiful park where children play and families have picnics. I haven't been there, but I have seen many photographs. Jesus was explaining a contemptible and despised concept, not a location.

What would be found on your list of unpardonable sins?

Hello Mimi84,

These teachings are just deceptions originating from Satan and the powers of darkness and that because we are in the apostasy of the last days. Continue to believe what the word of God says regarding eternal life and eternal punishment. For the word of God is the source of all truth. Don't allow them to tell you what God's word says, but believe what it says for yourself.

I believe in prevention, I also believe that that is what the Bible is for and if more people believed that pardons would not be necessary.

Im not trying to be negative or insult anyone,I just think that people are misled,I think that there is something about that in the Bible.

If we are going to teach that failure and loss of self control is acceptable then where do all those people go after they've ruined the world?hell or some similar place I imagine.

The eternal Lake of fire is clearly revealed in the Bible and it's eternal nature is also clearly revealed..

Those who believe otherwise have been deceived..

Hell existed in the times of Jesus.. The scriptures reveal.. The Souls in prison who had been there since the times of Noah..

1 Peter 3 : KJV
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
