I used to have a blonde mohawk and I felt like my style suited my piercing. Now I have longer natural hair and it just doesn't seem right anymore.
I don't believe my piercings displease God but at the same time it doesn't exactly give Him glory. I don't know if dying my hair does either. I do feel like lately He's been saying, "Lisa you don't to change yourself. I made you beautiful and I love you as you are."
Hi Lisa
,
I just wanted to say that your piercings and personal style may very well be giving glory to God without you knowing it.
I grew up in church so I know that most Christians don't seem to like piercings, but as noted in above posts, for some very Godly people, this was the normal thing, apparently. When Eliezer went to look for a wife for Isaac, he carried many precious items of jewelry with him for the girl God would lead him to. The fact that he "put the ring in Rebekah's nose" (Gen. 24) means SHE ALREADY HAD A NOSE PIERCING. The Bible doesn't say, "And then... Eliezer pierced Rebekah's nose... to be able to put the ring he had for her into place..." And, HE WAS CARRYING NOSE RINGS WITH HIM, suggesting that in this time frame, it was NORMAL for women of the culture to have such piercings.
As posted before, GOD PURPOSELY CHOSE the mother of Jacob... the grandmother of the 12 tribes of Israel... as someone who had a nose piercing. And, she was beautiful. Jacob lied to other men and said she was his sister so that they wouldn't kill him and take her for themselves. I feel very sad when I hear people at church judging others with such things as facial piercings. Do they not know about Rebekah? I always want to tell them, maybe it would be better to spend more time reading what the Bible actually has to say and praying to understand God's heart towards people rather than harshly judging their looks, but that's just me.
My personal opinion is that if a person is experimenting with their look out of personal expression and not dissatisfaction with the way they were made, why not? If God gives you peace with colored hair and jewelry, then many blessings on you and I hope you enjoy your God-given personal style.
I admire people who can keep up great hair colors--I used to dye mine burgundy and then eggplant but it was so much upkeep that I gave up!!! Keeping in all that bright color takes a lot of dedication.
You may have the "look" that someone else will be drawn to as someone they can confide in or relate to... and your life as a Christian--a unique Christian with a unique look--may make someone else who feels uncomfortable with how society treats them more at ease in seeking out God for themselves.
Because of your personal style, you may automatically reach a group of people whom God loves very much but whom other "regular, boring" people like myself might not ever be able to reach as effectively.
And that, most definitely, is giving glory to God. When you get to heaven, God may very well say, "Good job, Lisa!!! You were able to reach out to that teenager who was contemplating suicide when no one else could... because they were too busy judging his hair and piercings."
God bless you and the special person you are!
