I have such a hard time finding women that are not just interested in my appearance. They only care what I look like. Anyone else sympathize?

Bodybuilding aside, it's the inward and spiritual that count.

May be a local culture issue?

I've dated, so there are definitely women out there not focused on looks =P

I believe.. it's a cultural thing. I've never dated anyone because I liked the way they looked, I go for intellect and pretty much what's on the inside.

Superficiality is a plague few escape. Those who don't feel as attractive as others often feel neglected and those who feel like arm candy eventually feel used and empty.

Arm candy? Wouldn't that be eye candy? ...those who feel like eye candy eventually feel used and empty...?

I think you have diamonds on your mind....

or did they ever leave?

Tanner, if you want a woman to be interested in things other than your appearance posting a picture like so
http://christianchat.com/album.php?albumid=11688&attachmentid=74981 wouldn't be such a good idea would it??

If you put the way you look in peoples faces then how can you expect them to care about your personality. Especially if you are so blatantly advertising everything else. I'm not directing this just to you either.

You could have meant your original post a different way, but this is how i took it.

I think you may be on to something... the shirt stays on because this is CC and one can't push the boundaries too far, but seriously rolling up the shorts to show off more muscle....

OP, wear loose fitting clothing on the first few dates, it'll hide some of the muscle mass and might help keep the superficial women at bay. What you're looking at as a problem might be an asset if you play your cards right. Nothing wrong with working out if you enjoy it, just find someone who understands that but doesn't like you because of it.

I agree I could not have posted that picture but it is a huge part of who I am. I wear loose fitting clothes actually where close sizes to big but you can still see my muscles through them. I guess I approached this topic distastefully. That was one of the only pictures I have on my computer right now so I used it . I rolled up the shorts because I use this as a before and after pre cut to competition weight. I guided this topic the wrong way. I understand the concept being transcends beauty. That is the type of relationship I want.

I don't necessarily find it distasteful. You said you were intending to join a bodybuilding competition; and women do this, too, today, and it's not necessarily distasteful. Blessings.

my observation is that people who become accustomed to (or dependent) upon validation for their looks can, without even realizing it, use it as a crutch in an effort to be seen as having value. and of course, (for some) without even consciously realizing it, you are projecting to everyone that you want validation for that.

whenever you lead with your "appearance card" you are bound to get exactly what you are asking, while one is still hoping for someone to see beyond that.

if you want to be recognized for your inner value, you have to lead with that. lead with your words and actions. that requires more discipline and time, but has a far more lasting impression.

*Disclaimer* I wish the OP the very best and am NOT saying he is anything like this. But this entire thread reminds me of something I ran into a few years ago on a Christian dating site.

A guy contacted me on the site saying he liked that I sounded "like such a normal person" because he said he was tired of women throwing themselves at him due to his appearance. He said he was struggling with lust issues because the women were leaving him very blatant messages and it was depressing him that he just couldn't meet a nice girl who liked him for who he was.

I went to read and look at his profile and it was one of those "Things That Make You Go Hmm." He had about 4 model-quality photos of an extremely good-looking guy... chopping firewood. Without a shirt. Every ab and bicep curling. I was thinking, "Really?" But I gently tried to explain to him that posting those kinds of pictures isn't going to attract the "girl-next-door" type he was seeking.

Men complain that women show no modesty--we ladies have to ask you men to regard our humanity as well. Many men here have complained that women flaunt too much without thinking anything of their effect on men. Gentlemen need to have the same consideration for us ladies. If the gym is your passion, that's wonderful! A tasteful pic of you in a modest (looser) T-shirt and knee-length shorts will convey your hobby while cutting down on the wrong attention. Consideration for modesty is a trait we can all benefit from. :)

(I do have to tell the end of my story, and Tanner, as I said, I apologize because I know this isn't you, but I wanted to tell the rest of the story and what can happen.)

Guess how the story ended? The picture-perfect guy who looked like he belonged on the cover of a magazine? He didn't exist, or at least, not in the form of the guy who contacted me. It was a set of "borrowed" pictures. The guy eventually 'fessed up that this wasn't him at all. He eventually showed me his "real" pictures (but who knows if that was really him either), and he was a nice, normal guy... looking for very higher-than-normal amounts of attention.

Heh one has problems that women like the way they look another has problems that women like not the way they look.

Life is not tough, all one must do is live and die and be reborn.

Perhaps it is the World that is tough, not life.

Wait just a second....

Are you saying you find men chopping firewood attractive?

Hang on while I go grab an axe... there's a tree in the front yard I don't like....

Fenner! Servant! You guys are going to get me in trouble!!! :p Lol!!

*Hugs*

On second thought, I think I would have enjoyed a nice cheeseburger lunch in a restaurant instead. :) I've always shied away from conventionally good-looking guys... too much competition from all those crowds of women vying for their attention... But that's just me. I tend to like the sweet, shy guy in the corner of the room.

Hey, maybe the good-looking guy can chop the firewood needed to grill a couple of burgers for my sweet, polite, modestly-dressed normal-looking date and I. Oh yeah, baby!! ;)
