My question is Why did they start making light bulbs to look like curly que Ice cream? - Who thought that was a good idea? Stop confusing the Blond.
How do you know that they are not ice cream bulbs? Did you bite into one? lol

To make changing the light bulb a one person operation again.
... Just add common sense... ;)

( I like to call it rare sense --- because it does not seem to be so common any more... )

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned, but overbearing, regulations were set in place.
Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teenagers suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they had themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer paracetamol, sun lotion or plaster to a pupil, but could not inform the parents when a pupil became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home, but the burglar could sue you for assault because you protected yourself and your own.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. (Just a side fact here, there is a whole lot more to this story. Mainly, the coffee was way hotter then McD's wants to admit, and the burns she suffered were third degree on somewhere between 1/4th to 1/3 of her body. --Violakat)
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realised that he was gone.
If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Now, back on track.

I don't like CFL's. One of them caught fire after blowing out and I was lucky I noticed it and was in the room when it happened. It was actually shooting a flame several inches from the base! I only realized something was wrong when i smelled something burning.
video please :D

I didn't make it up if that's what you meant. I will try to find a video though. I know a lot of folks don't believe it can happen but I'm a christian and I can't sit here and lie to you all and I'm saying it really happened.

Found a video. You can skip to 1:00 to skip the long intro. Mine didn't have a break in the glass like the one in the video, but that's exactly how the flames shot out of the base. It was in one of those floor lamps that point up towards the ceiling.

Here's another from a guy who had the exact same thing happen to his. Look at the damaged base. The fire burned a nice big hole through it.

I tried but almost broke a tooth.....lol Just call me fibber /McBlond.
Thank God that you have strong teeth. Maybe God created blonds with strong teeth for a good reason. For Blonds may also forget which foot goes before the other while walking. I use to be a blond when younger. I found it very helpful to write down the proper sequence while walking. Left, Right, Left, Right and so on. If a blond joins the military. They get lots of practice and training at the proper sequence of walking. Therefore, some Blonds may no longer need to write it down.

violakat spoke of common sense.
Had you ever notice that everything has a warning label? I had actually seen a grease cartridge warning that if you apply this grease to your skin or face. You may break out with acne. :( lol

With that said. You may be able to get millions. There should have been a warning label stating!.. Biting into this ice cream looking light bulb may be hazardous to your teeth. Imagine the horror if you had no table manners. You just inhaled the whole light bulb without taking a bite. lol

Blond......Me thinks I get it now.....call the hunky fireman and let them bring a tall ladder and let hunky fireman change the light bulbs in my tall hall.....Thanks for a real solution I can enjoy.....What is it they call that? Oh Yeah eye candy....lol
I am 6"6' tall. I often wonder what a ladder might be used for. I think they are used to have me trip over for balance training.
Tripping over a ladder could be very good agility training for staying on ones feet.

Reminds me of a couple of times that I could not get up a steep hill climb on my dirt bike.
A very steep skinny single track hill climb that has some S turns on the way up. I thought that I could hit the hill full throttle by going a little more straight by blasting through some juniper trees.
The end result was the bike stopping and me flying through the air and landing on my feet. Good thing for some agility training. ;) Owning a ladder can be a very good thing. Even for me. :) lol

Thats funny.
Now they can start charging more for CFL lighting. For they can also be used as a heater with a minor adjustment with the filament.
Every light in my house is a CFL. I wish they were all LED.

LEDs were 30.00 ea a couple of years ago. I did go LED on my boat. There is a choice of warm white or cool white.
Warm white is like a normal bulb with the yellowish color. Cool white is bright with a slight bluish color. These cool white LED's make halogens seem yellow in comparison.
There is also the choice of going 3500k to 5000K in brightness if one was to do some custom lighting for different projects.
A cool white bulb in 5000k is considered daylight in its brightness.

Don't worry, I read that catching fire is very rare. In fact its so rare that many refuse to even believe it can happen. I also read that its more likely to happen when you have the bulb hanging upside down like I did and like in that first video. Also, they say that its prone to happen in the cheaper bulbs which use cheaper ballasts in the base. In any case, just make sure you don't leave them on when no one's home.

No worry's at all. Also!.. I turn all of my lights out not to waste money given to the power company's.
Kind of funny. My neighbors thought that I have no porch lights on my house. The house actually has a couple of big vapor gas type blubs. a couple of floods and and eight porch lights. lol

No need to throw the CFL light bulbs in the fireplace. They do not work there.
These are CFL electric heaters. Looking at the video. All that you need to do is take a bite out of the
ice cream looking part of the bulb.
Flip the wall switch to on. your new modified CFL light bulb heaters will fire right up. lol
