The truth is I tried to quote it for you but I just couldn't figure it out. Look at Utahs comment about the one I repd you on.
You missed me on it so it was a wasted rep

Those things really are, even that people take them seriously lol
My pastor gave a sermon a couple of weeks ago about receiving compliments. The gist of it was that it is as important for one to know how to receive one as it is for one to give one but that ultimately it's Jesus' that gets the credit.....in either case.

A compliment is flattery (or a form of it) and there are people in the end times are noted as being corrupted by flatteries.

Unless he meant praises?

If so, then those would be the praises of men.

If ever on the receving end of those who would take them too seriously? Those are neither here nor there either which is one of the reasons I cant really take the rep thing seriously. I know some others do, and I dont wish to start an agrument on that this is just how I regard them.

We are a tad off topic so before someone screams at us (but usually at me, because I am queen of verring off) I will jump off here.

I was going to "like" your comment, but I didn't want it to appear to be a "compliment."

You mean you're not inflamed and in a covetous rage? Wow! That's a paradigm shift, around here. I'd like to have one similar, that bounces around and off the "walls" of the text output area. It would have more precision, and spare the effort of some comments.
Don't have one like that, but the one below is close. I need to use this little guy more:

Yes, it does make one wonder why The Big Fella couldn't make His wishes clear and unambiguous.
God makes his word pretty clear to those that listen, and are his servents.
God did not create this current evil worlds state, man did so stop blaming God for it.

For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested;
neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids
in those days will I pour out my spirit.

For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age,
and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:

Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and
from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:

9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish;
because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not;
and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?

A]nd none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand”

Who has put wisdom in the mind? Or who has given understanding to the heart?

there are many ways to express a 'special-thank-you' and show a heart-felt-appreciation -

I have never seen a 'rep' choice before, and frankly I think it a very sweet thing
to be able to privately relate to someone when they touch you in a personal way that
touches your Spirit.

we just have to learn to keep our head out of it, like so many others things.

... what i find especially ugly is the idea that we can claim to be christians and express a desire to speak with sincerity and christian love on one hand, and then use this public forum to berate, make fun of, and mock a woman who is ostensibly a sister in Christ.
You have a point in that we are more likely to be hyper-critical and sarcastic in this setting that we would be in person. However, I assure you, an "ostensibly [. . . ] sister in Christ" who has a $100,000 air conditioned dog house, who is obviously in her mid- to late-70s (76 or 77, I believe) who wastes thousands to millions of dollars on looking like that and behaving in the exceptionally un-Christlike manner in which she operates brings it upon herself, and I am just as likely to say what I have said in person as I am to say what I posted earlier.

Right? Probably not. Truth? Yes it is..

Then there is the fact Paul and Jan Crouch taught, during his TBN "ministry," that we are "little gods." They demoted God and deified man. Jan still puts out this ungodly, unbiblical message every time she gets on the air, which thankfully is quite rare today. Paul Crouch once said, "I am a little god. I have His name. I am one with Him. I'm in covenant relationship. I am a little god. Critics be gone!"

In a video released after a lawsuit by the Crouch's granddaughter, who as an adult had serious issues with the message that came out of most TBN televangelist shows, and particularly those of the Crouches, shows Paul saying, "I attended the funerals of two TBN critics. God help anyone who would try to get in a way of TBN, which was God’s plan. I have attended the funeral of at least two people who tried."

The Crouches were/are (Paul died not long after that video surfaced) hardly good Christians, not likely Christians at all. It may be "unnice" to criticize them and be sarcastic about them, and perhaps we should seek forgiveness. But God is dealing far worse with Paul, and will with Jan, than anything that's been said about them on this Earth.

I really dislike it when a person sings a song and or preaches a great word andy ou walk up afterwards and say:

Your song/message really spoke to me, and I know God was behind it, so thank you for singing/preaching it.

They reply: Well dont thank me, it was ALL just Jesus and gets all the credit. Most times those saying this come off as just plain annoying and prideful. God gives talent, a simple humble, thank you and nothing more honors God more than stating the obivious

I was taught this by a very old wise pastor I worked under years ago. After preaching, and someone would tell me they were blessed, I would say Well, I am glad, but Jesus gets all the thanks and credit, I am just a servant.
or other super spiritual stuff like that.

I noticed all people looked like they were ready to punch me or rip my face off and I could not figure out why.

The pastor pulled me aside one day and said the next time some compliments your preaching, just say a quick humble thank you and nothing more.

So I did it and I mean people beamed, there was no pride on either side or anything. I had one elder/former pastor tell me once when I said thank you, that It was obvious I was called to preach and that the Holy Spirit was working through me when I did, therefore Jesus got all the credit.

We might disagree and its cool, not attacking you or your pastor. I just think a simple thank you goes further than trying to give God/Jesus credit when that is obvious if he is genuinely working through you.

Couldn't agree more. He also talked about what you just indicated in your post. That a simple thank you is enough.

Okay, maybe this makes me a bad Christian, but what's up with people derailing boards?

This thread was meant to be about overused, trite, or meaningless expressions that are used within the Christian community. It's a topic that I find interesting and worthy of discussion (and) possibly a good laugh. Only a handful of people have actually addressed this topic.

Everyone else insists on doing their own thing....on a forum where you can start a thread practically anywhere to grind whatever ax you want to grind.

Could we PLEASE get back on the actual topic?

You should start a new thread instead of derailing a derailed one. Two derails doesn't rerail a derailed thread.

I don't want to corrupt you with flattery, but I will say that even though we bang heads a lot, I appreciate what you share and enjoy learning from you. Godspeed. :)
