In other words, I guarantee you that if you were to give up such music for a year, and just listen to praise and worship instead, and if you followed after Christ's righteousness and commands in the New Testament, and you confessed any known sin, I know for a fact that if you were to hear this music again,, it would sound evil to you.
You don't think I'm doing those things because I enjoy power metal? Haha ridiculous.

For there is a huge difference between the carnal worldly Christian and the Christian who has dedicated their life to Christ and is seeking to honor Christ in all they say and do according to His Word.

I didnt get involved with this thread much....reason is songwriting is my hobby. I have over 2000 songs stored on tablets in my closet. I never tried to publish them. They just poured out of me quickly from my heart that I wrote it off as a hobby nothing serious.
But what Im trying to let be known here.
Is music is in my soul..it is in my heart.
I give every performer a chance when I listen...because the lyrics is the key
When someone has evil in their heart...they are going to do evil things. But songs I have written are all genres. Because I love stepping outside myself...to walk in others shoes. Music is an experience.
If people love a rock beat...they are going to find Jesus in a Christian rock song.

Key here is...I am not expressing my full opinion on this thread...so some legalist can tear my beautiful music to threads.
Music is my passion
But I can promise you this
No matter what genre of song I write
All my lyrics are of God or love or strength.

As long as the song is not of violence perversion or demonic

I dont see the problem.

The problem...is already within a person.
A person is already disturbed before they listen.

Good day and God bless
Thank you for letting me express :)
Like me or not...I have a gift for songwriting my family says
And I could reach the hearts of more people...by writing a variety of genres.

Thats all I know...thanks

What other things in your life could also be misunderstood as being carnal by the world do you participate in? Do you go to bars? Do you hang out with secular friends just to have fun? Do you still enjoy secular music and talk about like those particular bands? Do you agree with admiring with other men when they point out a beautiful women? Do you still swear alot? Do you take the Lord's name in vain still? If someone wanted to give you a million dollars, would you take it? What would be your reaction? Would you be happy? Do you put your treasures here upon this Earth or in Heaven? Have you done things that others think would question on whether or not you are a Christian? Is the Bible hard to read for you?

Well, music is not in my soul and music is not in my heart. Jesus is in my soul and Jesus is in my heart. Music does not take the place of Jesus. Music is not something that I can love more than Jesus. Jesus comes first and all songs should flow from my love for Him. If a song does not honor Him both in words and in it's beat, then it completely misses the point in it being a God honoring song. I would not want to boast in anything except Jesus Christ.

The thing is that the world loves it's own. So if these music artists are not being persecuted for Christ, then they are not really of God but they are of the world. For their music does sound demonic and aggressive.

in other words, have you did enough to earn your salvation?? because the gift has to be earned. we have to keep all kinds of rules, or the loving God who sent his Son to die for us will burn us in hell forever!!! a Christian who listens to music, well, they are just evil and lying In saying they believe in Christ, they just want to sin sin sin!!! this is the gospel of Jason. it is sickening. we obey and guard against sin BECAUSE we ARE saved. not to be saved. we do not have to EARN God's favor. we already have it. we just have to be careful to not abuse it or throw it away.

You cannot see it, because you do not want to see it.
that really ought to be the title of this thread hahaha

dude, re-read post #19.
i have done exactly this. it did not turn out the way you guess.
and then God chose and brought into my life music even more extreme than what i used to listen to.
He chose it, not me. i won't have to "explain it" to Him -- and i know why He chose it too, in order to bless and not curse me -- so i don't need to demand any sort of "explanation" from Him either. also He chose it so that i could be as His mouth in threads like this :)
want to hear the story?
i had been listening to only classical, ambient, old-time gospel and some Christian contemporary worship for over a year. i started finding fault in it ((but the fault was in me, turns out - what goes into your ear doesn't defile you)) -- so i wanted to find the book of Psalms set to music. i wanted to hear scripture itself sung, not anyone's own composed spiritual songs.
so i searched for it -- and i found things like this:

Elgibbor - Tau

Let my cry come before You, O Lord;
Give me understanding according to Your word.
Let my supplication come before You;
Deliver me according to Your word.
My lips shall utter praise,
For You teach me Your statutes.
My tongue shall speak of Your word,
For all Your commandments are righteousness.
Let Your hand become my help,
For I have chosen Your precepts.
I long for your salvation, O Lord,
And Your law is my delight.
Let my soul live, and it shall praise You;
And let Your judgments help me.
I have gone astray like a lost sheep;
Seek Your servant,
For I do not forget Your commandments.

(Psalm 119:169-176)

i wasn't trying to find "Christian unblack metal" in my search string. i was looking for Psalm 119.
the Lord Himself led me to this stuff, and i bless and thank Him for it.
before you accuse - yes, i can understand the lyrics. i've listened to enough music like this to have trained my ear to hear it. and no, it doesn't make me feel "aggressive" or "angry" - it fills me with a sense of the majesty and power of our God and His eternal mercy.

your experience is obviously different -- you still think that what goes into your body defiles it, but it's what comes out of your heart. if i got drunk and committed adultery, i could not rightly blame the alcohol. it may have facilitated sin, but sin comes out the wickedness in our hearts. if i saw people flaunting their riches, and i stole, i couldn't blame those people for what i did. covetousness would have been found in me, that led to theft - it's not what entered into my eye, but the lust of the eye that sins. if i saw delicious food, and i gorged myself until i was sick on it, it's not the food's fault. it's not the chef. it's not even my taste buds. it's gluttony in my heart.

in exactly the same way, it is not the guitar tones and voices that make you hostile and angry. it's something in your heart. whoever this is the case for, they should avoid giving occasion to sin. but all foods that we can give thanks for are lawful for us to eat!

i criticize what other people are thankful for,
on the internet, without very good reasons.

I try not to listen to modern Christian music. Not because I think its satanic but because most of it is of a poor quality. I think most of the performers are failed would be rock stars.

Why are they wearing satanic cloaks in that video with the woman singing? In other words, folks here see what they want to see. My encouragement is to stay away from this type of music for a long while and just follow Jesus and His good ways (While listening to praise and worship music). Then from that point, after a long while of having dedicated your life to Christ in all you do, then come back to this type of music and see if it is something that is of God or not. I guarantee you that you will think the same way as I do. Not because I want you to think like me personally but I want you to have the mind of Christ.

why do you think a monk's habit is satanic???

yeah. you want to see Satan. so you call an archetypal symbol of piety and devotion to God, "satanic" for example.

stay away from this type of music for a long while
. . .

are you not reading my posts, or just obliquely calling me a liar?

Jason, i did stay away from this, devoting myself to holiness. God brought me back to it, and He Himself commended it in me, approving it to me by His Spirit.

try this, dude. make a supreme effort, because i have already done what you keep suggesting, and it did not result in me thinking like you do.
stop judging by mere appearances for at least a year.
stop condemning what other servants of God do, for at least a year.
stop calling "evil" what others thank God for, for at least a year.
stop attributing to Satan the work of the Holy Spirit in others, for at least a year.
then come back to this.
see if you still feel the same.

First, monks are of Catholicism and they were not followers of Jesus Christ according to God's Word. Second, if you did say you left this violent music and came back to it, there had to have been something you did not give up for Christ or some thing in the world you still loved. For nobody who is connected in knowing Christ will love darkness and aggression like with Christian Heavy Metal music. Third, if a servant of God murdered, I have a right by God's Word to correct them. It is no different with Christian Heavy Metal. The Word of God itself condemns it (If one does not have the discernment by the Spirit and they are still living carnally and in the world or they are teaching a false doctrine such as OSAS or a sin and still be saved type belief). For if such is true for a person, then it is no wonder that they can be easily deceived by supposed Christian music that sounds and looks just like the world. Again, Ecclesiastes 7:9 says we are not to hasten in being angry. Yet, that is what Christian Heavy Metal does. It goes against that Biblical teaching. Not to mention the fact that the music in many of these various bands sounds dark, evil, and omnious. Mindless aggression is not one of the fruits of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5.

For it is no coincidence that OSAS proponents are more likely to side with Christian Heavy Metal. For it is a carnally driven type music which is no different than the doctrine of OSAS (Which is also carnally driven by the fact that allows someone to sin and still be saved). Granted, there are some OSAS proponents who do not believe that a saint can sin and still be saved, but that is exactly what they believe because they do not believe they can ever stop sinning (Which is making a future excuse or an allowance for them to sin --- as if it was okay).

If your version of discernment is so generalized... it's not discernment, but prejudice. Just a definitional fact.
