I work at Walmart. There are a lot of potential dangerous situations there. It's not all fun and games. Horrible place.

My condolences. I worked at Walmart on two separate occasions. They were both miserable experiences. Never again will I work for that dreadful company. My roommate actually survived 16 years there before they finally let him go a few months ago. I don't know how he could stand it for so long.

They are about to shut down a bunch of US Walmarts, for one thing. I forget the exact number, something like 156 of them.
I've worked at 2 Walmarts in CA. Walmart has a reputation for not caring about their employees. They know there is a line of other applicants, so your happiness and job satisfaction is not priority. Walmarts are known for having a high turnover because no one wants to work there unless they have to.
Of course this can vary from store to store, such as many stores in the south have employees who have lasted 25 years or more, but overall the reputation Walmart has for its employees is bad.
Any actual 'dangers' i was never aware of. Then again this was 10 years ago, when i last worked there.
The back room is dangerous as you must climb up and down on ladders carrying heavy boxes. Sometimes it is hard to see the next step. I work in the bakery and the oven doesn't work right. It is cramped and slippery walking back and forth. The freezer is not large enough so there are boxes stacked every which way and they are almost impossible to retrieve. Ice is on the floor.
In the deli there are also slicers and an oven. You are not given enough time or support to do your job properly so you are always rushed and that leads to accidents.
The stress in a typical Walmart is tremendous due to typically poor management who only cares about numbers and not people.
They can let you go in a heartbeat no matter how long you have been working for the company.
Walmart is an easy company to get into but this is due to the high turnover. If you get hired you should watch your back and practice CYA.
A lot of the customers are rude and obnoxious. Of course, they are always right.
This sounds like a nightmare (dream?) for Occupational Health and Safety inspectors. Perhaps an occasional anonymous call to them would work wonders?

I didn't work for Walmart but I had a job in which I was in charge of returns. People regularly left boxes filled with crushed glass all over my work area (it might be a box containing potholders but unknown to anyone reaching into it, the underneath was filled with glass shards), as well as wooden boards with nails sticking out of them. One day I came in and had an unseen board with about 15 nails running through it (so all the sharp sides were exposed ) fall at me, nearly impaling itself into my leg. I've had numerous injuries over the years and like you, have all the scars to prove it.
Ah, good old retail. People think it's an easy, bottom-feeder job, but they wouldn't believe the amount of work and stress it actually involves if you're actually trying to do your job (a good number of people who get hired just walk around checking their phones all day.)

And let's not forget the ridiculously poor pay that comes with working retail too. It's just not worth it.

This is negated by the minimum wage hike, hence the 100+ stores closing i mentioned earlier.
The sad part is I have several friends who worked retail in their teens and are now teachers and accountants (and racked up plenty of student loans to get there), and they say that in a lot of ways, it's not much better than retail.
One of my best friends worked as an accountant for a pretigious firm, and she estimated that with all the hours she put in during tax season, she was making minimum wage at best.

I've always heard that teachers get a really poor salary too. And it's a tough job to boot.
Going to school and getting a degree definitely isn't what it once was. There's such a competition these days for jobs a lot of people have to settle for far less than what they went to school for. My brother got a B.A. in political science, and for years he worked as first a security guard, then as a flight attendant. He finally has a job he's happy with now working for child protective services in Oregon, but it took him a lot of years to get there.
My dad went to college during a time when having a degree meant getting a good job. Now it's like, "Well this person has a degree, this person has one, this person has one, so why should I hire you over all these other people who have degrees too?"
College isn't what it used to be.

I can definitely relate to this. I have put a challenge in front of me to let go of everything and since I have felt so carefree. I've had a couple things happen that would normally leave me rattled, but I remembered that God can handle this so I did not let it affect me and since God has proven he is faithful and is with my dad, protecting him and because of this he will be healed.

Yeah, for sure. It is hard to let go of certain things sometimes, but I'm glad that you can trust like that. : ) There's this song by Newsboys called 'Million Pieces' that I sometimes listen to when I forget and try to carry too much on my own. It's about giving things to God, laying your burdens down, and that kind of thing.
