Can you solve my riddle.

If a friend had not questioned me, and suggested that I do some questioning of myself, on what I cherished as my well-learned and rehearsed "Sound Doctrine", I would still be saying what about a half dozen posters here keep repeating. And, I might never have met Jesus.

Well, my main point was only that if someone questioned me as to whether I "really" read something or not, the answer is yes, I actually did read it, but I may not have retained it as well as someone else would expect me to and they would probably (erroneously) accuse me of just skimming as well.

As to whether or not I actually buy into everything I read... "Christian" or not, is a completely different story (no, I'm not questioning the sanctity of the Bible, but I do raise my eyebrows at various interpretations and have never digested "tried and true" Christian cliches without a bit of spiritual indigestion.) To be honest, I didn't get much out of The Screwtape Letters, nor did I enjoy it (braces self for a good old-fashioned stoning) but I understand that we are all affected differently by different works.

At any rate... Willie, I'm sure your story is quite fascinating. And it reassures me that sometimes when we hear something that "doesn't seem quite right"... It just might not be!!

I hope I never get to the point that I think I am completely right. I just want to sense that I am on the right path.

Let's face it, if you believe what everyone else believes.... where does that place you? Yep, squarely on "The Broad Path." Jesus, Himself, was constantly accused of being an offence to the accepted "Sound Doctrine." And, in many cases, all we have done is "evolve" today's Christianity into something Jesus would oppose with everything in Him if He were to walk among us again today.

Judges 14:14 -- "Out of the eater, something to eat; out of the strong, something sweet."

Samson had killed a lion, and some time later, a swarm of bees had made a hive within the carcass and were producing honey. Samson ate the honey, as well as giving some to his parents, though he didn't tell them where it came from.

He also posed this as a riddle to his Philistine bride's people, saying that if they solved the riddle in 7 days, he would give them 30 sets of clothes, but if they could not answer, it would be them that owed him. The Philistines were able to answer in 3 days, but they cheated by coercing Samson's wife to get him to explain it (obviously, for as strong as he was, Samson wasn't very good at standing up to nagging women, which eventually led to his downfall.)

Because they had cheated, Samson upheld his end of the deal--by killing 30 of their men, stripping them of their clothes, and handing them over as payment for answering his riddle.

I wonder if this is some kind of warning about the pitfalls of presenting riddles! (Just kidding... sometimes they can be fun!)

Assuming "sweat" means "sweet" then of course that is from Samson's riddle. I don't know many who don't know that riddle. The mention of water threw me in the starting post.
