Reading is the only thing that keeps me going!! Otherwise I'd totally hate the treadmill because it's so boring... Kudos to you, Missy!!! We can do this!!! :) I envy you in that you can swim... I'd actually need to take lessons again.

Maybe someday! :)

My trainer taught me two things - 1) respect the iron, and 2) listen to your body. Recently, I came across a beautiful article written by a former strongman. I think you will enjoy reading it.
The Iron by Henry Rollins | Oldtime Strongman
Henry Rollins was the lead singer for the punk band Black Flag in the early 80's. He also put out some albums where he talked about his childhood and growing up and what was causing him to be the way he was.

I listened to all of it when I was in my late teens and early 20's. I thought it was cool that he was willing to be so open about himself with the whole world. I saw a certain strength and a certain weakness to it.

Then I saw him in a couple movies in the early 90's. And he played the role of a cop!!! I would never have believed it...

How do you go from lead singer of a punk band to playing the role of a cop? Only in California is this possible...

Is it a coincidence then that Gold's Gym originated in Cali? :D

asparagus, red cabbage, leeks, onion and mushroom

Also roasting broccoli in the oven.

Going to prepare meats/protein later.

Alas, my workout friend has blown me off.
But I will still do arms and abs. The show must go on.

I haven't taken many days off since last March, so being kind of lazy for two weeks may have been beneficial lol. Physically/mentally, I think I'm in a pretty good place atm. Intensity-wise, my workouts have been as good as ever the last 3-4 days. I've abandoned the stationary bike and have been jogging instead.. usually before and after my workouts. I just got home from a 90 minute workout and feel like I could have easily done more.. that's a good thing. :)

I'm taking 2 weeks off from deadlifts and squats. And bent over rows and front squats...

I was deadlifting without a belt and did something to my lower back. It felt like it was getting better so 2 days later I did some heavy squatting. Bad idea. Whatever I did to my back, squatting made it worse.

When I do start squatting and deadlifting next week I will always use the belt when weight gets to 300+ lbs.

I think I will get an inversion table too, so I can stretch out all my stuff after compressing it...

If anyone knows anything about lower backs, compression and inversion tables I sure would like to hear about it...

Yikes, grandpa. do you think a chiropractic session or massage would help? I don't know anything about inversion tables either.

It actually feels pretty good now. I could probably deadlift on friday but I'll give it another week of rest.

And I'll be more careful with my form.

Oh no! I hope you get better soon.

My trainer has advised me to consider purchasing a foam roller. You could also get a back hyperextension bench, to help you de-stress your back after a heavy deadlift session.

My updates - I broke my PR on the deadlift on Friday. I lifted a 1RPM of 315lb, which is 2.05x my present body weight. Unfortunately, my left shoulder flared up when when I was doing some lightweight lat pulldowns. My shoulder has been sore ever since, so I am suspecting it to be a rotator cuff injury. I may have to go for sports rehab.

Has anyone gone for one before? I would like to know what do they do and whether they administer any injections or medications. Also, has anyone gone for a sports massage before?

I can only speak from my own experience, but I had a shoulder injury when I was 19 and went to therapy for it twice. I felt it was a waste of time personally. There were no injections, but I was given a prescription. Most of what they do, I could do on my own. So, I would say if you do go, take note of what they plan to do and you can do your research from there and decide if it's really worth it.

I've never been to any kind of sports or physical therapy, but I got a real bad muscle spasm in my hip once after playing soccer..I went to an urgent care clinic and they gave me an injection and muscle relaxers. It was magic.

I bought the book "How to bulletproof your shoulder" after I hurt my shoulder.

The weird thing is I think I hurt it from sleeping with my arm under my pillow. It didn't hurt after working out but I could barely move my arm when I woke up the next morning.

The book I got was great. It gave 4 exercises with weights to perform at high reps for times a week and 4 stretches to do 5 times a week.

Its been a long road but my shoulder is starting to feel really good too. I highly recomend the book. I think it was like $25 on amazon.

I've seen those reverse hyper extension benches for the back, they look expensive.

I just saw someone on the internet who has built their own reverse hyper and attached it to their squat rack. I already have a squat rack so this will be pretty easy and inexpensive.

What I really want to see now is a "reverse hyperSPACE extension."

Now THAT would be interesting.
