Thou shalt speak only English? Ill look for that scripture
That was in no way the point of what I said. I was replying to an earlier post in which the user said that God's name is YHWH and Jesus' name is Yeshuah, and she said that since most people don't use these names, then most don't take his name in vain. Maybe my post will make more sense to you in light of that.

My mother uses omg or je..
Simply I told her that is a sin and she needs to repent of filthy language and using God's name in vain. Her response was that using God's name in vain is just saying a bad word followed by God. I disagree. And how do I help unsaved family members? God bless all.
It most certainly is but it's obvious that your mother does not realize this. Only the shed blood of Jesus on the cross can save family members. You can help by praying for them and for others that are lost too. God bless you as well.

I don't believe it to be about speech at all. To take means to gain possession of something. I think it means that our possession and clinging to of God and His laws are to not lack substance or to be empty.
i think it has to do with speech. "holy is His name" His name is holy is it not. apply this fact with the commandment, dont use/take the Lords name in vain. i think it means dont use the Lords name in the same manner you would use a friends name you go fishing with. His name is above all others. when we start using His name in terms like OMG, we forget that.

I don't know if using "Oh my God" is a bad thing, but I know that since i got saved, I have been doing much better about changing my expletives into softer terms. Oh my God became Oh my goodness or a simple wow. I used to say "Jesus Christ" all the time as a token of surprise or dismay but I don't do it hardly at all anymore. I'm becoming a changed being in Christ and that's a good thing.

I still drop an F bomb from time to time, but the Lord is patient with me and eventually, those will disappear too I think.
it may help in using Freak or freakin instead of the F bomb just a thought

you should go to the bible first not the dictionary in this case its wrong and youre agreeing with it cause its justifying your sin.
Cant, the word isnt in there. Where is the word heck in the scriptures?

Look up "Hell" "Hades" in the bible or concordance it will say its the place of the dead . Is that funny?
I have looked it up,

Theres nothing funny about a word

I lost a friend to suicide she planned it and I know shes in Hell I know shes in Hell - I dont take this lightly.
You too? Judas killed himself, we likely all know someone who has unfortunately , and we shouldnt laugh at other peoples tragedy, and if you can point out to me where I actually have that would be helpful to the cause of your condemnation.

You ignorance is insulting and hurtful im sorry if thats difficult to hear please be careful what you say because you have hurt me and others. And Im sorry if I hurt you by saying this.
Well, speaking of ignorance friend, you should really go back and reread, there is a difference between a place called hades (in the scriptures ) and the word heck (in a secular dictionary) which isnt in the scripture.

But I wont hold it against you

I typically only use bible dictionarys for words I pull from the scriptures, and twill look to another when the word is not in the scripture, and in this case it isnt.

I am sorry for having to point this out to you, but please read more carefully and try to not see things that are not there.

Some people do not mean any harm when saying omg,for it is usually associated with someone did something stupid,or a stupid thing occurred,or something terrible happened, but saying Jesus Christ when not honoring Him is usually associated worse than omg.

But both are wrong if not done in the right context, and that is what it means to not take the name of the Lord in vain, that do not use His name for any other purpose but to honor Him,and if there is a purpose for it,according to His will.

Someone could say Oh!My God is good, and Jesus Christ is great, but do not use it in a way that does not meet the purpose of God,and some people say it wrongly, and God,and the name Jesus Christ, should not be used as a substitute for words the world uses to address their frustrations,or any other words they use.

At least she does not say the phrase that is really terrible, that the world uses a lot,and some people say, that even go to Church, that I will not even mention, but I think people know what I am talking about.

People have to learn to say "oh my god" and "jesus christ" as expletives, which means they can unlearn them or learn to use a substitute.

Sometimes, the substitution is funnier. I like saying "melon farmer" now and it makes my Father laugh when I do because he knows I am trying to not curse.

So, to say the word "god"... is always speaking of or to God, no it is not.

This fleshly minded "offense", is just that... a false sense of piety.
Oh, I see. So, the "my" constitutes something to certain minds, not so much the word "god" then, is that what you mean? And, if so, then, this offense only applies to our God, as Christians, when said by Christians?

This still has nothing to do with the doctrine of "taking the Lord's name in vain", though.

Although, this one "oh my word" I hear from a lot of Baptists, what's up with that?

:D
Oh, I see. So, the "my" constitutes something to certain minds, not so much the word "god" then, is that what you mean? When people say "Oh my God", they aren't speaking of a generic god. They are speaking of their God. You say(above in orange) "no it is not" speaking of/to God. I say "yes it is".

This still has nothing to do with the doctrine of "taking the Lord's name in vain", though. The thread opened by addressing "Oh my God" and "Jesus". Noted for the second time now:

I think you need to do a lot more study about the loving forgiveness of God... you cannot possibly know that your friend is in hell... you are putting limits on God's love for us.

God knows what is in our heart, and anyone that commits suicide is mentally off.... no sane person is going to kill themselves... with the possible exception of someone with a terminal illness that does it to skip the suffering.

Even so, why do you think that a suicide automatically sends someone to hell?

Buddha dang.Even saying that too often takes your focus off GOD.

It's just very funny isn't it when you say "buddha dang" it doesn't have the same punch at all. There is a reason the name "God" and "Jesus Christ" are used. Simply because it's just wrong and doing wrong is what humans are doing with help from the enemy.

It's like this; have you ever heard anyone who is a supporter of abortion and insists on calling the baby in the womb a "fetus". They insist usually at all times to call 'it' a fetus., Do they ever decide when they are going to have a shower before the arrival of their child., to call it a "fetus shower" ??? nope.

I think the enemy at all times is at work influencing people and the words we use and how we use them. Words are very powerful in our lives. The power of the tongue is major. Such a little member with more power than we give it credit for. Just something I've noticed in life with people each day.

I think it's a Catholic thing. We were always taught it was a mortal sin and you can't go to heaven with one of those on your head. Not even sure you can get out of purgatory with one of them. (not sure it's been some time since I was a catholic)

The only sin that will send anyone to hell is rejecting Jesus Christ. Yes, only God knows if someone is saved or not in that kind of situation. People do get very confused over their emotions and many people actually live by their emotions and some do die by them. Even Christians can be so influenced that they do foolish things because they forgot that they have been cleansed and have Jesus. The enemy puts the focus on their feelings and not the facts of their lives.

That is why we are warned to guard our hearts so many times in the Bible. Our adversary like a roaring lion goes about seeking whom he may devour.

I think it is using it in vain, what else should it be?
You can help your unsaved family members by praying for them and talking with them about christianity (not too much or else it will have the opposite effect).

these days the 'boob-tube' makes everything OK and or acceptable.....

when I hear the little children and even adults taking our Lord's Name in vain,
especially when everyone thinks that it's cute or something to laugh about,
it always breaks my heart.....seeing someone smoking does the same thing to me...

I'm still convinced that saying OMG FOR NO REASON in vain,
producing no result; useless.

Vain definition: "a vain attempt to tidy up the room"
synonyms: futile, useless, pointless, to no purpose, hopeless, in vain; More
ineffective, ineffectual, inefficacious, impotent, unavailing, to no avail, fruitless, profitless, unrewarding, unproductive, unsuccessful, failed, abortive, for nothing;
thwarted, frustrated, foiled;
archaicbootless
"a vain attempt"
antonyms: successful

Weather ye eat or drink dobit all for THE GLORY of GOD.

Thats his name and thats an adjective

Ex 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous,
