Hi all,

I've been on Christian Chat for years (I've had a few different usernames, just through leaving for long periods, and coming back) and yet I haven't really gotten to know that many people. This is my own fault, in fairness, because I'm a very sporadic user: I use the site for a while, especially when I'm bored and not doing much, and then I leave for months or more. The friends I have made I haven't been great at keeping in touch with, sadly. (I'm not a great email communicator).

Annnnnyway.... I wanted to make more of an effort during my time on this community, so I thought I'd make a wee thread re-introducing myself and asking others to share something about themselves so that I can get to know you all a little better too!

Here's a little about me:

I'm Rónán, I'm 26 (I think my profile says 27 for some reason) and I've been Catholic my whole life but only "intentionally" since 2008, when I encountered Christ for the first time in a real, intense and tangible way. Since then my whole life has been aimed (often missing the mark quite badly) at knowing, loving and serving Him. He has given me so much grace, far more than I ever deserved. I've suffered a lot in my life, but I thank God for my suffering and trials because they have made me who I am, and strengthened me so much. I love Tolkien, food, being with friends, nature, and a whole host of other things. Oh, and I'm from Ireland.

Food in general! :p I love chicken curry... Usually I just make up my own recipes. (Don't take that as meaning I'm a particularly good cook though lol)

Hobbies - I play guitar so that's one. Reading is another and movies. Wasting time online? Most of my hobbies I've neglected in recent years as I've been focused on things Christ is doing in my life, and have needed few distractions. However in the past my hobbies have included working out, martial arts, art, hiking, studying theology/philosophy/apologetics and so on. :) Oh, and thanks for saying I have a cool name, it's Irish.

Thanks seoulsearch. Don't worry about misspelling my name! I kind of regret picking such an awkward username anyway. You can call me seal if you like, or just by my actually name. Or any name of your own choosing :p

Ive never had curry, have wanted to try it but to this day I havent. Would only wanna try the sweet kind, not big on hot foods.

Oh and cool, guitar. Do you write your own music? Im mostly a bass guitarist, but I play guitar too.
Apologetics is a good thing to learn, yeah : p And ah I really miss hiking.

I see I've been misreading your nickname, possibly the same way SeoulSearch has been doing. It sounds Gaelic; could you post a pronunciation guide for it?

I appreciate your comment about missing the mark. That is the literal meaning of the words translated, "sin". On our own, we simply fall far short of God's standard of righteousness. Only because of the righteousness of Jesus Christ imputed to us by faith can we come before God and not be utterly destroyed. Yet, He calls us to come before This throne in confidence; what amazing grace!

I play guitar also; several folks on here do, though some hang out more on the live chat side than on the forums. I look forward to getting to know you better. Also, I'm part Irish too; I'm just not sure which part! :)

Well, Ronan and I have some things in common. Study of theology/apologetics, etc., reading different books, martial arts, working out, movies. A little it of a Irish connection too, in that my wife was American-Irish.

Nice to finally meet you. That is interesting that you thank God for your suffering and trials. He only disciplines those that He loves. What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger. I'm not sure if that's biblical or not but in my own life I have found that to be true. I have missed the mark too at times. It is best to confess this to God, pick yourself up and do the best with the tools that God provides. God Bless You.

Amen, dino, thanks for your nice words! My nickname is Irish but doesn't make much real sense. Pronounce it "shayla-byug"...but that's awkward, so "seal" is fine :D My actual name means "little seal" in Irish, so that's where the seal part comes from. :)

I've seen a few chaps in the YouSing room playing guitar but I have webcam stage fright so I probably won't be in there anytime soon! :p I guess a lot of Americans and Canadians have a little Irish in them, which is great. Can't have too much Irish! :D

Mmmm curry is delicious, you should definitely try it!! Start out mild and build up; if you start with a super-spicy one it'll put you off for life! I've had a few realllly spicy ones in my time, and it's more of a "get through this alive" experience than an enjoyable meal lol.

I haven't written any music in a while, as like I said, I've been focusing on other things recently, and so I've only picked up the guitar properly in the past few months. I hadn't played much in a few years until that. I've definitely missed it though! I play more for my own enjoyment (i used to be really shy about playing in public but I'm overcome that now). Sometimes I can just sit and pick random patterns and chords for ages, and it's really meditative and soothing... :) I think I saw before in a thread that you were into post-rock! Do you play in a band or anything?

Hi tourist, nice to meet you too! I agree with everything you said, and i think what you said is from this quote:
"For the Lord disciplines him whom he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.”
That's one that has helped me many times, in times of trials! And I praise God that He loves and receives me, even if the discipline is painful! God bless you too! :)

The "get through this alive" thing made me laugh : p I feel like that everytime I eat anything spicy : p
I always like to point out to people who make a fuss about me not liking hot food that I dont enjoy foods that cause pain. Cuz thats what makes it hot, the food is causing the nerves in our mouth to react in pain : p

And we actually sell curry at my work, I just keep forgetting to get some : p Might do this week. What do you usually have with curry btw?

And I do that too actually : p Just play arpeggio chords for a while and listen to them : p It is way relaxing. And yeah I like post rock, its great. Dunno a whole lot of bands but I like the bands I know. You said you used to be big into them, are you not so much now? What do you listen to now?
And I do play in a band, actually : p I wont share the name here publically but I am the bassist in a band yeah. We arent playing as much as we used to though, and we kinda do kinda dont have a drummer, as our drummer doesnt really wanna play much anymore. But we still get together and play without him and record stuff occasionally yeah : p Do you have friends you play with?

Hi there bro, nice to meet ya. My names James .. (not such a cool name ... just saying ..) And I'm originally from Scotland, then I lived in England for 2 0 years. I've now been staying in Ireland for almost 6 months. Welcome back ... I too have suffered allot in life, but with it comes the glory, the glory of Christ :D!!!
