That one depends on the denomination or nondenomination. But basically they tend to ask if you're doing this because you want to. (Well, unless you're Catholic, in which case it's useless to ask a baby that question. lol)
What's that got to do with it? Most parents in Norway baptize infants, Catholics, Protestants or Agnostics

CEF: Let the person in charge of the ceremony know if you are still nervous about it, I am sure they are used to plenty of different reactions :)

A lot has to do with it and I don't even know where to begin.

No offence but I don't understand I mean common sence tells us that it is a means of showing repentance and babies can't really grasp what all that entails.

Yes, I don't say I agree with infant baptism, I ask what Catholics have to do with it, as ALL denominations do it here
this site has a way of hating certain groups of people

but we are getting off topic...

Where in the bible does it say what true baptism is?
A few verses on Baptism, I could find:

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let
every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38 NKJV)

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. (Romans 6:1-7 NKJV)

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (Galatians 3:27 NKJV)

And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 3:21 NLT)

That is a man made opinion of what baptism is. True baptismsm is the answer of a good conscience towards God.
No. That's a guy joking around and showing how scary it could be. lol

(If I ever want to carry even more anxiety, I'm going to ask Sirk for help from now on. lol)

Meh. I get why people baptize infants. It's like circumcision -- an outward sign of an inward work. BUT let us not forget the OP is asking the question, so infant is out of the picture. (And I almost said, "out the window," until I visualized that one. lol)

Why say "no offense" when you clearly meant to be offensive?

Actually, I mentioned Catholics because that's the only denomination I knew that did it. AND, it's the only denomination I know that did it because I was one. Maybe this site would be less "hateful" if we all stopped jumping to hate as the knee jerk reaction.

I'm getting baptized on the first of May as well, I just found out today. He walked me step by step through the entire process so I am really excited, and not nervous.

Okay, I've heard this argument from those of the Reformed persuasion a lot (and I skew Reformed a bit myself), and I STILL don't get it. How can it be like circumcision if both boys AND girls are baptized as infants. It just isn't equal. Please explain.

You're right; it isn't equal--it's an analogy.

Here's the key: an outward sign of an inward work

She's saying that infant baptism is an outward sign of an inward work just as circumcision was an outward sign of an inward work in the Old Testament way.

But how can there be an inward work when an infant has absolutely no ability to cognate?

Good question.

I imagine infant baptism is more of a profession of the parents' faith and commitment to train up the child in a godly household.

You're right--an infant would seem not have the mental ability to make a decision.

Now, I'm recalling scriptures which prompt us to have 'faith like a child' (Matt 18:3).

And also recalling that God knows us before we're even born (Jer 1:5; Ps 139:13).

So, I guess I answer your question with a question: Does God begin working on an infant while the infant is still in its mother's womb?

ah, sorry
it's just that the majority of the members here act as if Catholics are the spawn of satan or something :( I get kinda defensive :D

PS: and we (CCers in general) did it again, siderailed a thread. If only someone would pay us for it.
mmm, chocolate
