ok, answer this. If the law is not for me, as a believer, which commandments am I allowed to break freely? all of them? Can I steal from my neighbor, take his wife... murder his mother-in-law?
What about loving others is keeping the entire law isn't clear to you?
Is stealing loving? No.
Is taking a wife? No
Is murdering? No
The LAW was given so people would know they needed a Savior, but it did not contain the power to follow it. Every SINGLE person in the OT was saved through faith. Not through faith in the law. And not through keeping the law.
Why do you think Paul said, ALL have fallen short? Every single person has fallen short in keeping the law. And you think you can do it? Yes we keep the law, but we EXCEED the righteousness of the Pharisees. You know the people who devoted their entire lives to keeping the law! Look my friend, do you remember when Jesus compared the Sheep and the Goats? What did He say? What was the difference between the Sheep and the Goats?
As far as quoting Proverbs? Doctrine first off means teaching. But now we have a TEACHER. His name is Holy Spirit. He lives inside of you, say Hi Holy Spirit.
Now back to the OT: This gives us an example about doing. But what does the NT teach? We need to rest in Christ. Guess who didn't rest in Christ? Guess who didn't come to Christ, but instead said to Moses you be our mediator!
Did you realize that the law was never given to you? Oh I know that's a huge shock. But Scripture is clear. We come in through Abraham. And the ol Father of Faith wasn't given the law.
Did you notice that Moses didn't enter the promise land? The law isn't allowed in.
Why because God wrote His law on our hearts and our minds. That mean He's not telling us who
we are not but
who we are. He couldn't do this of course until Christ came and then we became reborn in Him.
Did you notice that Jesus said that Moses would testify AGAINST them? Because Moses pointed to Jesus! Why is this important because Pharisees believed they were good to go because they had been given the law. Sound familiar?
Do you remember how Paul said he counted everything
rubbish in comparison to knowing Christ? Guess who didn't say that? Pharisees.
Do you remember how Paul said that the new glory exceeds the former glory? Pointing to the Spirit of Christ that now
dwells in us?
Do you know why Paul says we fall from GRACE if we try to keep the law? Because we don't want to replace His ability with our ability. What do you think Paul means when he says he died to himself, but was reborn in Christ? And not him lived but Christ in Him? Christ is the fulfillment of the law.
But the fulfillment of the law is that God loves you. And that because God loves you, He did what you can't. He gave you freedom. And now with your freedom,
you get to choose to love Him by loving people.
Unless of course you don't believe you've been forgiven, and then we shall love little.
P.S. The Old Covenant was between God and the Jews. Yes we can still learn from God through it. And yes we can still discover more about Him, but the Scripture is clear. Now God lives in us not in a temple that requires continual sacrifices. Because Jesus is and was the perfect sacrifice. What does that mean? It means even all the blood of bulls, goats, etc pointed to Christ. There is only one Man who could ever keep the law perfectly, and He is God.
But this isn't about you proving your worth to Him, Adam and Eve hid because they were ashamed of their nakedness, what did God do? He covered them. With what? Animal skin. How do you get animal? You kill it. First death in the Bible covered their sin. Who died from the foundation of the world? Jesus Christ, the perfect Lamb.
When God pointed to their action, Adam blamed the woman and ultimately God. But now we understand what love cost our Father. It cost Him everything. And this reality, transforms our hearts, to the goodness and kindness of God and we repent (turn) to Him.
Romans 8:15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."
