This thread has reminded me of an awe inspiring woman. She has attended
my church for a number of years and was in the choir at one point.
She is of oriental origin. I think part Chinese.

Then about 5 years ago she had a dreadful car accident and it wasn't even certain that
she would live. She ended up spending many months in intensive care, physio and
suffered brain damage.

Fast forward to the present, she is paralysed from the waist down and has to use
an electronic wheelchair. As if that wasn't bad enough (bearing in mind she has the
heart of a worshipper and loved to sing) she can no longer speak properly and form
words, just vague utterances which you have to listen carefully to, to understand.
The speech centres of her brain were affected by the accident.

But yet she has all the intelligence there and understanding, she can still read and
write, and understand what people say to her fully. She just cannot get the words
out to talk properly.

But she is such an inspiration and meets every challenge full of courage. Never
complains, always has a smile, greets everyone with enthusiasm. She went to church
this morning by herself and got on the bus ( our buses are designed for wheelchair access
in the Uk, they have kerb drop platforms so wheelchairs can wheel onto them and
wheelchair space).

Just that massive task of going on a bus to church by yourself when you can't
communicate, can't walk and everyone around you thinks you are demented or something,
must be so hard for her. But she is determined to live her life as normal as possible.

After church me and a friend popped into town and we ended up in a cafe. To
our surprise this lady was there with her brother who she had met up with.
They had order "afternoon tea" which which came with dainty sandwiches, scones,
buns, cream cakes etc. Yummy.

We all said hello and chatted a bit. But what was apparent was the people around
who didn't know her looking at her strangely just because her voice was odd.
I just wanted to tell everyone that her brain works fine, she is intelligent, she
still speaks 3 languages just can't get the words out properly. But you could tell
people just assumed she was mentally retarded or something. It got me mad and
i felt very sad for her. :(

But you know what, it put all problems I have into perspective. I'm so blessed
and I just wish I was even half the person she is.

men are just mean and stupid(not all of them)
They look at a woman's body and looks and judge her by that. What matters is her personality, and her heart. :)
Is this what they call passive aggressive?

It's not right to generalize all men because of actions of the few.

Geeesh, I am way too late for this thread. Its already went off topic and everything : (

But speaking of avatars, Ive actually always thought it was kinda weird to use your own picture as an avatar, tbh : p Like on a dating site I can understand. But with like forums and other similar websites, the face of the person youre talking to isnt really important : p Its just a site meant for topical discussion, and really an avatar is just a good way to be able to recognize a poster when scrolling through posts. I really dont feel the need for people reading my posts to know what my face looks like : p
(Someone may have already made that point but I dont wanna have to read 20+ pages of posts : p)

As for an avatar, I usually use Helga Pataki to identify myself online almost entirely : p

I agree but I also believe women are just as guilty of this. We tend to think of guys as being more obsessed with looks, but in reality, there are so many women that can be snobby and super picky about appearance. Women are often the worst or harshest critics of other women. Women are typically more scrutinizing and detail oriented. We notice everything :) I think it's just human nature to focus on outward appearances and value others based on looks and success.

Be careful ... not everyone is ready for this level of honesty :)

Yes women do judge other women by outward appearances. They. Do the same to men: (

I've known some women who could be brutal when talking about another woman's looks. If someone is really pretty, oh she's stuck up. If someone has average looks and has a boyfriend, oh wow what does he see in her? Most of that boils down to the persons own insecurities and jealously. I'm not sure if do this or not.

That's right! It's the 99% of men who give the rest of us a bad name! ;)

I meant I'm not sure if men do this or not. Do you bash each other's looks men?

You'd be surprised ;) Because I'm in full agreement with Pink's statement.

We are the body of Christ. It's time to start acting like it. When you say "all men suck," you're referring to a son of God. When you say, "all women suck," you're referring to daughter of Christ. It's like me approaching one of my students of their drawing and saying, "Gosh, that drawing sucks. You should do better." Everyone would look at me like I'm a terrible person, and they have every right. So, why do we bash the creations of God?

I find many women tend point their finger at men all the time, but then we forget how we should also treat men.

I believe that both parties need to respect each other, regardless.

Just because there are some men out there that are some bad eggs does not mean all men are bad.
Just because there are some women out there that are some bad eggs does not mean all women are bad.

Respect each other.

While not necessarily on the same level as women do with other women, men do put each other down and bully each other on how they look, yes. I was very much bullied for things like having long hair or the way I was dressed by the other boys growing up, and even now as an adult, I still get some jabs here and there over how I look and dress.

I was picked on about that stuff as a kid too. It stinks.:(

It was my experience that men tended to put other men down for:

Social status - how much $ you make, how many friends you have, how many women you've bedded down

Sexual prowess - endless jokes about each other being a flaming homosexual and/or having a small and ineffective gentalia

Looks did factor into it, but on different levels. If a guy was "good looking", he was obviously gay. If he was ugly, he was told so at every opportunity. If he was in shape, that was fine so long as he wasn't in better shape than all the other apes because we all know that guys in super awesome shape are gay.

Oddly enough, this type of behavior first shows itself in about 5th grade, and it NEVER stops. The jokes might change a little bit, but not by much. It's always the same old stuff. Tease other guys about being gay, one-up them at every opportunity, make fun of their weiner. We men are a classy bunch (no not really).

You have a beautiful heart.

Aw thanks shucks

Your user name always confuses me, the first few times I saw it, I
thought people were getting 49 likes. Lol

You know when it says "49 likes this" but then I can be a
bit of a wombat!

While that is true, a woman should try and take care of themselves as best as they can. Same goes for men also. No reason to let yourself go and expect to get a good man or woman to like you. Be presentable. But also have a good heart is what im basically trying to say.
