my friend, Dan_473, good morning,
I didn't say we can't call Him "The Lord".
I am just saying, that is not His name.
Praise God for the King Jimmy translators! I am very thankful for them.
Again, just saying, "The Lord" is not His name
Names speak of many invisible authorities. God has many names that do speak of his immutable authority. Not just Jehovah .
God does not have a name in the sense of distinguishing Him as God from false gods. That is something human started doing some where down the line. God attaches meaning to the word used in scripture .Now day s you can make up your own.Name it after a sound or anything.
There would be no need to with God . All of the names are immutable attributes of His Holy Spirit .They speak of His authority or invisible quality, as His manifold witness to His glory.
God appears as Lord (Jehovah) to Abram . This was before the Jewish nation was formed, it was later recognized by the word “Abraham” as an oath of God . Abraham the new name God gave to Abram means : the “Father of many nations” having that name as a type to represent our Father in heavens, the one God of all nations of people..
Some Jews sought after the spirit as if it was after the flesh just as today .
Christ in the new testament when confronted with the judaizers that would glory in their flesh. Jesus used one of the “think not" talks. In other word don't even give it a thought doctrines
Seeing they were having Abraham as “to our” Father in heaven as if the earthly Abraham was the same as our heavenly Father . They had that kind of faith in the fathers (men), having it in the spirit of the oral traditions of the fathers, called the law of the fathers.
Christ called them a generation of vipers which I believe means false prophets This is shown by using their oral traditions of the fathers as equal with the word of God.
Christ, the Lord in a sense told them I believe to focus on the spirit, not according to the flesh But rather as the same spirit of faith according as it is written and not the outward flesh of a Jew. Those stones that Christ said he would rather build his church on in that portion seem to be in respect to those be baptized of John in Jordan, the subject matter, they could of represented by the description of the lively stones that do make up the spiritual house of God, as His bride the church.
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:And think not to say within "yourselves", We have Abraham “to our father”: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. Mat 3:7
They were insisting we need men to teach us by making void the promises of Christ that he the anointing Holy Spirit of God would come and teach an comfort His children by a work of faith .
Getting back to the use of the word
name and how I think it is used .
He spoke to Abram, and as the Lord (Jehovah) who has no form and declared He the Lord was “the almighty God “(El Shaddai,) .This means; “the Lord (Jehovah) is mighty”. It speaks of the almighty power of the Lord (Jehovah).
Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, “I am” the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
Using
I Am to indicate the voice of Jehovah(Lord) from heaven He says; be complete/perfect by walking according to His understanding and not lean on his own strength .
There he uses his unseen power as Lord to give Abram the faith by which he could believe God and therefore a living hope in His power of El Shaddai, the Almighty God needed to perform what it declared earlier in Chapter 15..below
Gen 15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that
thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not their's, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them f
our hundred years;
When that four hundred years were over the LORD appeared as promised to Abraham in respect to the promised seed, meaning Christ the spiritual seed. Galatians below helps us to understand I believe...the purpose of the one seed
Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
The angel as the messenger, who brings the word of God called the incorruptible seed by which all men are born from above came to Moses.
Exo 3:2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
He then reveals the workings of the spiritual seed Christ as shown in Galatians and again not seeds as if after the flesh of Abraham.
Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. Exo 3:6
The rest of that list after Isaac and Jacob shows the passing down of the spiritual
seed of
Christ .It is found in the genealogy of Luke 3 it goes back to Adam , Abraham is a few from the end.
And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD:And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them. Exo 6:2
There again he uses
I Am to represent the unseen Lord . and this time mightily to call out a whole nation regardless whether they had the spiritual seed seed of Christ to show themselves as a new creature or not . This knowing if any man have not the Spirit of Christ old testament or new than neither do they belong to Him or could they.
This I believe shows us the Lord Jesus had not only become our strength by which we can hear Him as his word quicken our souls giving us his understanding but also the strength of our salvation. Knowing if he has begun the good work of salvation in us as he did with Abraham he will finish it to the end.
Note ... (parenthesizes in purple) my addition to try and make a point.
Isaiah 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength (El Shaddai ) and my song; he also is become my salvation. (Jesus)
Therefore any other kind of authority can be applies to both Jesus or Jehovah
One Lord ,one Spirit one faith of Christ.
