The Bible is pretty balanced in showing the character of women. Here's what I mean:

For every "Eve", there's a "Mary"
For every "Jezebel", there's an "Esther"
For every "wife of Job", there's an "Abigail"
For every "wife of Lot", there's a "Deborah".
For every "wife of Potiphar", there's a "Proverbs 31 wife".

And Proverbs has much to say about women, both positive and negative.

I never once in my whole life ever heard of 'foxes' ruining anything, only that they
chased-down what they need to EAT! and that they are often chased-down
for a bizarre 'sport'...#127.

To the person who gave me rep points, thank you. I'd reply in person, but you didn't leave a name, so...

I read your comment telling me to change my avatar because you said it's not flattering at all.

My avatar is of me this past Halloween. I didn't even go to a party; I was talking to a friend online and we both painted our faces, chatted a bit on camera, and that was our big "celebration."

For now, I actually rather like it, as it's very much me... and yet, I'm kind of hiding in plain sight.

You know, just like we all do on sites like this... as well as in everyday life.

Thank you and God bless!

Are you referring to your girlfriend? I believe that you are only one with your significant other only if you consummate the relationship. Is this what you're talking about?

Forgive me, but after reading about 10 of his posts, I was pretty sure he was referring to a straitjacket.

Surely that has got to be worth more than two cents :)

Of course the original post is incendiary, but there are Christians who subscribe to the teaching that women should not teach men in church. I am one of these old fashioned types. It is nothing for Christians to fall out about, though. I have read that people think I Timothy 2:9-15 was for the local congregation, in a certain context and not applicable today. But, I think it still applies to church government.

This is not a primary issue, but a secondary or tertiary one.

Hi Galatea,

We belonged to a conservative Charismatic church, a Southern Baptist
church, a nondenominational church, a vineyard church, a Calvinist church, a non-conservative Charismatic church and the only one that didn't hold to the traditional view of was the last one mentioned.

I'm always opened to being shown differently if it can be proven through scripture, but as far as I can see so far, I agree that 1 Timothy 2:9-15 still applies to the local congregation today. Truth doesn't change, people do.

I don't know what a vineyard church is, :). I kind of felt some trepidation in posting, I realize many people see nothing wrong with women being pastors and teachers. I do think it is a side issue that Christians can disagree about, I know some people interpret the passage as meant only for Timothy's congregation and something not meant for today.

I wondered if anyone would agree with me. :)

The o.p. has a point...................attached to a long sword a inch from his..........throat yeah throat.

I don't agree with the original post, however he is no more wrong in his extreme then are those who deny the word of God that says that men are to do the speaking in an assembly of men and women. This issue is interesting in that it pulls out the dishonesty in folks who do not like what God has to say about men and women in the church. Some men and women will insist on staying with the word of God that men are to lead, while other men and women will seek to force God to conform to their idea that women should be in authority over men in the church. The former are in the will of God the latter are fighting against God.

Glad you asked about Vineyard, they too allow female pastors. They are very Charismatic. I would say that most Charismatic churches probably do. I have friends who agree with female pastors. We simply agree to disagree. :)

It had to be for Titus's congregation too because Paul gave the same qualifications for elders to Titus. At the time Paul wrote the letter to Titus, he was in Crete.

What's interesting is that Paul had the
churches read one another's letters so it seems to me it would be for not only Timothy's church which I think was Ephesus, but for all the churches.

I'm sure there are a few of us here that believe in the traditional view of elders/deacons. :)

That is true and Phoebe was obviously a great woman of faith, however the man who called her a deacon also said that a deacon had to be the husband of one wife. He also said that women should not be in authority over men in the church, so it becomes obvious that Phoebe was a woman who served a lot of Christians, not a woman in authority over men.

Yes, Paul was describing how men were to behave if they held a certain position in the church, while also acknowledging that women were acceptable in those same roles.

I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church in Cenchreae.

The Vineyard Fellowship trains women in all phases of church leadership. The movement as a whole welcomes the participation of women in leadership in all areas of ministry.
We also recognize and understand that some Vineyard pastors have a different understanding of the Scriptures. Each local church retains the right to make its own decisions regarding ordination and appointment of senior pastors.

Actually, you can make up whatever you want, but I will go by what the Scriptures say, for they explicitly state that sin entered the world through one man.

You're right. I misspoke. However I didn't do so to "make things up." I meant to point out that Eve and Adam both sinned. Neither were blameless.
