Without the Bible to appeal to, it becomes my word vs. your word, my opinion vs. your opinion. How would we know anything about the doctrine of divorce without the Bible to appeal to? Qualifications for pastors? Deacons? For examples...
In the same way as in the times without the Bible. By a common agreement between local episcopates/churches. It worked for thousand years.

I agree that the Bible is a great help for us. I do not agree that our religion is doomed without it.

God has perfect timing. When things got too messed up in the western churches after 1500 years without a Bible, He provided the Bible from the East and the technology from Germany to spread it between people and to fix the catholic church.

Heb 4

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

2 Tim.3

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Ps. 119

Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.

How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.

Ps.119

How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.

Is 40

The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.

Matt.4

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

John 1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Ps.56

In God, whose word I praise
in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?

Ps.119

I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.

1 Peter 1

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

Job 23
I have not departed from the commands of his lips;
I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

Id say Gods words are pretty important. And where do we find His words?? Exactly!

My apologies, should my answer reiterate other posters, as unless I "catch" a new topic I wish to respond to "fresh off the presses?" (pun intended...lol), I sometimes read through some of 'em. But not, always...This is one of these topics...lol

There was a time "back in the day", when God's Spirit, Strove with man's spirit, and no empirical records, were needed. It is a tragedy, that this has not been the case in well over 6,000 years! You can thank "Apostasy" for this!

Actually, God cannot stand religion as it is man's attempt to justify his existence outside of God. Jesus carries out the intention of the Father and not of Himself. It is the Holy Spirit that guides us.

Man's righteousness is doomed without it. Common agreement may not align with God's agreement.

Psalm 119, the longest chapter in the Bible, is all about the word of God.

Man's righteousness is doomed with or without it.

The righteousness of Christ is received by faith in Christ, no matter how many Bibles we have in our library...

Re: If Jesus Intended for Christianity to be Exclusively a “Religion of the Book,” Wh

GOD's VOICE/SPIRIT does not contradict HIS written WORD
And HIS written WORD does not contradict HIS VOICE/SPIRIT

How do we know this?

because HE has given us of HIS SPIRIT

And THE SPIRIT is TRUTH who leads us to ALL TRUTH or the lack of TRUTH in all things

is anyone here saying that The written WORD contradicts GOD?

Re: If Jesus Intended for Christianity to be Exclusively a “Religion of the Book,” Wh

The reason THE LAW wil not passed until all has been accomplished is because men without THE SPIRIT do not rightly know how to apply GOD's LAW

Its only those born of HIS SPIRIT who can read GOD's WORD and led by HIS SPIRIT, follow THE SPIRIT of THE LAW

The Bible is the Word of God.. Attacks on the Bible should not be tolerated in a Christian Forum.. That is taking tolerance way to far..

Do not tolerate the intolerable..

Re: If Jesus Intended for Christianity to be Exclusively a “Religion of the Book,” Wh

What does GOD desire?

mercy
for mercy covers over a multitude of sins

Not only the sins of those whom we show mercy to
but our sins as well

Not only that
we are born of HIS SPIRIT and we don't go beyond THE MINISTRY we were called to

re onciliation

pointing all to CHRIST

But the written WORD of GOD will not contradict THE SPIRIT of GOD

Yes

it is THE TESTIMONY of JESUS
Every written WORD prophecied of and pointed us to THE SON

THE FATHER "hid" THE SON in HIS WORD

the TESTIMONY of JESUS. IS. THE SPIRIT of PROPHECY

And anyone who speaks outside the WORD of TRUTH, does not have THE LIGHT of THE TRUTH and KNOWLEDGE of GOD

Nobody is attacking the Bible here.

But Bible is just a written record about the real Word of God - Jesus Christ. Bible is not the goal, Jesus is.

The goal is not to study the Bible, but to study Jesus Christ. The goal is not to follow the Bible, but to follow Jesus Christ, etc.
