oh and ps, legalism and grace will never be at peace. The are apposed, there is not common ground, they do not even have th Same gospel, so to try to make peace between the two would be to support universalism.

Galations 1 is my reference, one gospel. Not two, not three, One.
is repenting from a law legalism. (or blindness to context of scripture)

would you go back, to the post, i underlined, when you said your repented.

what scripture did you use, to justify repenting of sin, in the new covenant. etc

Jesus always chastened or rebuked the disciples for their hardness of heart and their unbelief. Personally I think He lets the natural consequences of sin take over and finally some of us see the foolishness that we are doing as the prodigal son parable shows.

The Holy Spirit is always teaching us about Christ and the things of God. He always points to the work and person of Christ.
So the Holy spirit doesn't chasten you of sin...,Jesus just lets the natural consequences of sin happen instead? Then eventually you realise on your own that you are being foolish and that sin is harmful?

Interestingly enough, I asked my someone with understanding of metallurgy and iron does not sharpen iron, in our understanding of

sharpening ....perhaps this requires some further investigation back to the original Hebrew and the culture
he mean not knowing scripture context, when proven wrong, he can use, the scripture to back up ,what he says tomorrow.

yet i reminded him logos and rhema are two different words , in the growth progression etc

Christians have not been properly taught what happened to them when they received Christ and believed.

That they have died on the cross with Christ and that they have been resurrected to newness of life and now are a new creation - "Behold - all things are new." 2 Cor. 5:17

When our minds are renewed to the truth of Christ's work on the cross and resurrection - this stops us from being "double-minded" and unstable.

We grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and are thus transformed in our outward behavior that reflects our true self in Christ by having our minds renewed to truth. Rom. 12:2
Thank you G777, I think this is a straight forward application of God's Grace working through faith in our life - well said.

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans12:2

Grace is always received before it is deserved or earned as you imply. Since you feel you have earned grace it shows, unfortunately, you have absolutely no understanding of what grace is at all.
If grace is always received before it is deserved....everyone would be saved and Jesus would not have needed to die....

Grace is appropriated through personal faith of what Jesus did and did alone for us...until faith comes by hearing the Word, grace is waiting....not freely given.....

We are saved by grace, through faith....

we are not saved by grace............

This is what is always has been said about John 16:8-10

Notice the difference between the world ( they do not believe in Me ) and the believer ( You because I go to the father and He is our Advocate. 1 John 2:1 ) that Jesus is addressing here.

To the believer He reveals/convinces/expose that they are the righteousness of Christ because He went to the Father to stand as an Advocate.

Reminds me of this:
5 Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace.[c] But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work. Romans 11:5-6

Proof texting again I see...
Romans 11 is taking to the Jews and 5-6 is saying that a remnant of Jews remained faithful because they believed in God's grace......

Proper context is below:

Romans 11.1-7
11 I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. [SUP]2 [/SUP]God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel? [SUP]3 [/SUP]“Lord, they have killed Your prophets, they have torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they are seeking my life.” [SUP]4 [/SUP]But what is the divine response to him? “I have kept for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” [SUP]5 [/SUP]In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God’s gracious choice. [SUP]6 [/SUP]But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]What then? What Israel is seeking, it has not obtained, but those who were chosen obtained it, and the rest were hardened; [SUP]8 [/SUP]just as it is written,
“God gave them a spirit of stupor,
Eyes to see not and ears to hear not,
Down to this very day.”

[SUP]9 [/SUP]And David says,
“Let their table become a snare and a trap,
And a stumbling block and a retribution to them.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]“Let their eyes be darkened to see not,
And bend their backs forever.”

You are trying to make a verse fit theology that is not even talking about Gentiles...

Well said.

It's this part (blue) that some of certain beliefs cannot accomplish.

Their first mistake is they believe there's no more conviction after accepting Christ. Conviction does two things, first convicting us of sin as we put off the old man & his deeds, & secondly, convicting us of righteousness to promote spiritual maturity as we put on the new man made in the image of Christ.

Their first mistake leads them to their second one: no repentance after conversion.

True repentance brings change. We become sorry for our sins & our will changes to want to perform God's will, & not ours.

Yet without these two active in their lives, they will claim the Holy Spirit promotes change in their lives, while tying His hands so he can't convict & lead to repentance & maturity.

It's a catch-22.

So far, the only response I received to that predicament is that grace changes us without our intervention into full maturity.

My question to this is, "If God does everything perfectly, why aren't we all perfect then?"

And just as I expected, no answer.:)

It's like every time you catch a glitch in their doctrine, they patch it with a quick excuse.

But if it were true doctrine, God's doctrine, it wouldn't need patching.

To this day, I cannot get them to answer me how they can mature without conviction & repentance.

It's this huge hole in their doctrine, proving it to be false.

can you give proof to repenting, in the first place. do you live in church 24/7 .

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit Romans 8

And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purposeGalatians 2

I have written elsewhere about the need for a new covenant definition of conviction, one that does not emphasize your badness but God’s goodness and grace.
But the simple fact is the Holy Spirit will never convict you of your sin. When you sin, your conscience may condemn you, the law will condemn you, the judge and jury may condemn you, the religious may condemn you, and the devil will certainly condemn you, but against the chorus of condemners stands the sweet Holy Spirit who defends you and draws you to grace.
The Holy Spirit’s conviction has nothing to do with your sin and everything to do with God’s grace. It’s not about the bad thing you’ve done but the good thing he wants to do in you right now.

so, could it be that grace7 is saying that the Holy Sprit will lead a believer into a Godly lifestyle ( paragraph 2 of his post here), you just don't like how he is phrasing it?

Again the whole phrase "life of Christ in me"

Anyway I do agree that people sin because they don't understand God's reality and love.

However they may understand God will provide but are just spoiled brats who want more and then become bullies and steal from others to get more.

"Confess what God says about me is true"

Does that include admitting that Holy spirit chastened you of your sin and that you need to REPENT?

How else would you know you sinned and be able to admit that what you did was WRONG?
when did you save your self, yet, how come sin, is all you quote about.

Romans 8: Life in the Spirit
1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.Romans 8: Life in the Spirit

i wonder, who is chastening you, do you understand, what no condemnation means. etc

I agree that the Holy spirit doesn't condemn you but He does tell you that you did wrong and than says what you should have done instead.

If you focus on the Holy spirit, it should be easy to see that the devil lies.

The law is just, your conscience is another way of saying the part of the mind that reveals how you break the law via the Holy spirit and why you need to go to God and repent.

It should not condemn you but remind you to run to God and be healed.

Conviction of the Holy spirit is two part..1 your sin, what you did wrong, 2. God's plan and what you should have done instead...often part 1 reveal spiritual strongholds that need to be torn down and part 2 shows good works God wants you to do in the future.

We should reject Satan's condemnation but we should listen to the holy spirit conviction and the rebuke of godly people God sends our way,

So the Holy spirit doesn't chasten you of sin...,Jesus just lets the natural consequences of sin happen instead? Then eventually you realise on your own that you are being foolish and that sin is harmful?

Before I have to go - I will address this: This is what I have said about sin many times in the past and I will give it out again in the hope that it'll help the viewers.

I will post this again for about the 15th time in the hope that it will be a blessing to someone who is struggling in their Christian life.

Personally I am vehemently against all forms of sinning as they all bring destruction of some sort to us while on this earth - especially the one of unbelief in Christ's finished work on the cross.

I don't see any difference in sinning by living a homosexual lifestyle to having malice, bitterness, having outbursts of anger, being deceitful, being jealous and envious and the slandering of others in the body of Christ. All of these, as well as all the works of the flesh bring about death to us in this life. They are contrary to the life off Christ in us now.

Here is my view on sin and it's affects on us and on how the Holy Spirit transforms us as we behold the glory ( goodness ) of our Lord as in a mirror. 2 Cor. 3:17-18

Sin changes our perspective on things and causes us to not look at our Father in the right light of who He truly is. ( The same as Adam and Eve did when they hid from Him even though He was still coming to visit with them and He still took care of them )

Sin also affects our ability to have harmonious relationships with others and it also distorts our view of others as well as ourselves. Sin is deceitful.

We chose to live holy lives because we are just being who we truly are in Christ - not to maintain right standing with God. We are simply "being who we truly are because we are on spirit with the Lord - a new creation in Him".

Keeping our eyes on Jesus or "beholding" the glory/goodness of the Lord as in a mirror is the way we live the true Christian life.

This living good holy lives creates right relationships with people, it will not give our enemy an influence in our lives and it is a good witness to the world.

It reveals the true heart of our loving Father and Lord to show others in this hurt and dying world their love and grace towards them.

Your true identity is not defined by your struggles, mistakes, or sinful actions. These are all confined to the flesh and are the works of the flesh as Paul said. Who you are is defined by your new birth in Christ. You are who you are by His grace and life in you!

Behavioral issues are usually the result of trying to live under the law in some form - such as the false doctrine of "sinless perfection in the flesh" or you will lose your salvation if you don't do good works.

This "lose your salvation" false doctrine which discourages believers and brings fear and hopelessness to them as they struggle in the flesh with some things.

This causes them to have their faith ship-wrecked because they feel condemned and don't know how to walk by the spirit yet nor are they taught the gospel of the grace of God in Christ properly in order to grow up in Him.

Once you understand you are completely accepted and sin free forever in Jesus in your inner man created in righteousness and holiness - and that this is your permanent state for all eternity in Christ - the behavioral issues will fall off of our lives like dead leaves.

The "sap" of His life in and through us transforms us outwardly by the Holy Spirit as we behold the glory ( goodness ) of the Lord Jesus as in a mirror. We see all the goodness that He has already done for us and we also see ourselves in Him as one spirit with the Lord. 2 Cor. 3:17-18

The "sap" is in reference to He is the Vine and we are the branches in John 15. Jesus used analogies and we can too. Jesus is the Life.

I maintain that the preaching and teaching of the love and grace of God in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ brings true righteousness which is His alone and there will be deeds of His life manifested in us if we are fed Christ Himself and His righteousness to us.

He has cleansed our hearts by faith and now we are to walk from this new heart in Christ.

As we have received Him - so we walk in Him. Col. 2:6. It is all by grace through faith in what Christ has already done.

Anyway - I must go now so God bless you and have a great rest of the day!

Here is the full article so that we can see what this person is saying. I like to use this website from time to time as it has a place at the bottom where we can ask questions. I like that.

How Does the Holy Spirit Convict Us?

"Through the law,” says the mixed-grace preacher. “It is by God’s law that we are convicted. When you sin, the Holy Spirit will remind you of God’s holy commands and show you the way to go.”

The mixed-grace preacher says the law shows us the way of life. Yet the hyper-grace preacher Paul said the law ministers death (2 Cor. 3:7). Something doesn’t add up.

The mixed-grace preacher describes the Holy Spirit as a Spirit of law, but the writer of Hebrews said he is the Spirit of grace (Heb 10:29). Again, something doesn’t add up.

I have heard people say they were convicted of sin while reading the law and that this caused them to run to God in repentance.

These experiences testify to the true ministry of the law—it helps us recognize sin and our need for grace. But the law is not the Holy Spirit and the Spirit of Grace does not minister law to you.

The ministry that brought death, … was engraved in letters on stone… If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! (2 Cor 3:7-9)

Look into the mirror of the law and you will feel condemned, every time. That’s what the law does. It points out your faults and failings. But that is not what the Holy Spirit does. That is not the more glorious ministry that brings righteousness.

When you sin it takes no faith to look into the mirror of the law and agree that you made a mess.

It takes faith to listen to the Holy Spirit and agree that in Christ you are as righteous and holy as he is! This is the good news that turns sinners into saints. This is the startling revelation that empowers you to go and sin no more.

The Bible says we are not under law, but grace. This means we do not need the law to teach us how to live. But without the firm rule of the law, how will we please the Lord? How will the Holy Spirit set us on the straight and narrow? Or to use a recent example I read on Charisma News, how will we know it’s a bad idea to steal from Walmart?

How does the Spirit of grace convict us?

A law-conscious preacher defines conviction (elegcho in John 16:8) as fault-finding and rebuke. But an interpretation of conviction which is more consistent with the Holy Spirit’s gracious character is expose, or bring into the light. (More here.)

How does the Holy Spirit convict us? He does it by turning on the lights, not to shame you (Jesus carried your shame), but to show you the way to life. Ian Thomas describes it like this:

The Holy Spirit is like a man with a lamp entering a dark and dirty room, and what you have learned to live with in the dark becomes repugnant in the light.

Think of Saul on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3). By his own account he was chief of sinners. Then the lights went on and he became a different man.
