You have no idea what you are trading yourself into...

You cook the rice with milk. Season it with salt, white pepper and all spiece. Then you add minced pork liver and stir. Adding some raisins. Put the whole thing to the oven to let the liver coagolate. Add a click of butter (as my mother in law always did) and serve it with potatoes. Still not wanting to try the rakfisk instead
Only thing I see wrong with that is the raisins. Raisins? In liver? But aside from that, I would probably love it.

I guess it is the Lynx in you speaking here. No sane person would like the thought of this dish. What is next? Should I tell you about the Norwegian dish mashed lungs???? I spare you the pain.

I send you some rakfisk instead. Just to proove it is delicous. Do you think it will reach you if I send it to Lynx, somewhere south, USA?

I sure hope it doesn't make it to me...

Why does it have to be rotten? Sounds like a waste of perfectly good fish. I like fish, all kinds of fish. Just not rotted fish.

It is not really rotten. It is fermented. It is put with salt in a closed bucket and let to itself for some time. The process is similar to cheese making hence the resemblance to French cheeses in the smell. If it is maturated enough it is soft like butter.

Some lucky guy comes swinging by my place for dinner? Hehe

I'd pull out a couple filet mignons from my freezer, pan sear them. Make a spinach salad, and make these wonderful baked potatoes. I don't know what they're called but you boil the potatoes, then you crush them... then you put them in the oven to get all nice and crispy. And for dessert? I'd be tempted to pull out my grandmother's home made angel food cake. The only thing is, a nice red wine would go beautifully with it but I'd low key want to spoil him with a 'from scratch' sangria punch bowl. Perks of becoming destitute senior year of high school; learning how to be a house wife for your parents because they can't afford to send you to ballet classes anymore.

This was I had for dinner today with my best friend. Rakfisk, butter and lefse. It might be rotten, but it is really fermented and it was just yummy. We ate everything. BTW. The beer was non alchoholic.

I had a little extra money and was watching the sales at the grocery stores, so I gathered up the ingredients to have what I consider a rather decadent supper this evening:

Grilled ribeye steak

Mushrooms sauteed in butter with minced garlic and a couple dashes of Worcestershire sauce

Twice-baked potato with bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, butter, sour cream and fresh garden chives in the mix

Iceberg lettuce salad with homemade bleu cheese dressing

...better enjoy it tonight. Meals like this don't happen very often in this household. Too much fat, too much salt, and too many intense flavors that irritate my ulcer. Worth it every once in a great while though.

The little one asked for taco salad with avacado. Banana pudding with bananas, whipped cream and vanilla wafers... she's almost 5. What a combination. So if you're stopping by, hope you don't mind salsa banana burps.

I'd like to say I am making Chinese food tonight, but I can't. I'm not Chinese. I'm making food that happens to have many of the same ingredients and flavors as those I tend to like when I do eat Chinese food, but I'm definitely not making Chinese food. That's too bold a claim. Kind of like when I make a thick soup that many people might mistake for gumbo, but it isn't gumbo because I am not Creole...my soup just happens to have many of the same ingredients and flavors.

Don't bother with that Creole gumbo, go for Cajun gumbo;).

You wouldn't be having dinner with me, because I wouldn't want you to catch my cold. However, you'd be missing out on some rather tasty chicken stew. Why have soup when you can have soup with substance! :)

No matter. Anything that is outside my cultural background is a farce. too bad I despise "poor white oilfield trash" food. because that is what I am. I happen to like different foods, so anything I make is gonna be fake.

I'm making baked potatoes tonight.

That's it. Baked potatoes. Have many things like butter, sour cream, cheese, fresh chives, bacon bits, and others stuff to dress them up, but the entirety of supper tonight is a large baked potato.

After the day I've had, it's somewhat of a miracle I'm willing to even step foot in the kitchen to make anything.

Seoulsearcher, I believe in only the very best for company, soooooo...If you came over for dinner, I would fix you mini ravioli by the Chef Boyardee. I would even heat it up and everything. I might even buy an already made salad from the local supermarket. lol

I don't have time for cooking....total waste of time in my mind. You can buy so many things already pre-made. Costco has amazing stuff already made, you just need to warm it up. I saw already made stew and barbacoa beef there recently. The stew was pretty decent.
